After losing to Verizon in the much-hyped spectrum auction, it is speculated that Google has written a letter to the FCC asking for permission to use the "White-Space" between channels 2 and 51 on TV sets (which is not used by cable services) to offer wireless broadband services. Such a move would offer up more coverage and maybe even faster, more reliable and affordable internet over air-waves. This could surely open a lot more possibilities for consumers, but what urges Google to take the...

Alaska Airlines today announced it plans to launch inflight wireless Internet service next year based on Row 44's satellite-based broadband connectivity solution. The airline will test Row 44's system on a next-generation Boeing 737 aircraft in spring 2008 and, based on the trial's outcome, plans to equip its 114-aircraft fleet. The technology will provide customers with a unique entertainment and business network at 35,000 feet. Passengers with Wi-Fi-enabled devices, such as laptop computers, PDAs, smartphones and portable gaming systems, will have high-speed access to the Internet, e-mail, virtual private networks and stored inflight entertainment content. Unlike air-to-ground services, Row 44's satellite-based system is designed to function over land, water and across international borders, enabling service throughout Alaska's route system in Alaska, the Lower 48 states, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.
It turned out that the great outdoors offered much of what we had remembered, and then some. I couldn't recall sharing our days under the sun and nights under the stars with so many people. Much to my dismay, this appeared to be our new normal. We were expecting our second child at the time, and I couldn't see the three, soon to be four of us out on a canoe or kayak trip any time soon. Ironically, the Internet is a useful tool when booking a campsite. After finding many parks were too full to accommodate our impromptu plan, we discovered a website that turned out to be somewhat indicative of the campground itself. Multi-coloured lights glittered and flashed - virtual stars, I think. Unbelievably, this park also boasted Free! Wireless! Internet access.
By Bob ShobiWhat is WiFi?It is possible to form a somewhat informed opinion on the safety or potential risks of this new technology without actually being a physicist yourself.Quite simply, Wi-Fi is the wireless technology most commonly used to connect people to the Internet in schools, coffee shops, hotels and other network locations, or to connect cell phone users to one another. Wi-Fi is certainly convenient for travelers and students, but is it dangerous? Many believe that the low-level electromagnetic waves that radiate from the wireless Internet source to each individual user can be harmful to your health, even causing cellular changes and possibly cancer in some cases. The area covered by a WiFi Internet connection is known as a "hotspot"; this is the area in which the waves radiate to give users access to the world wide web. It can span several kilometers, although the waves cannot pass through treed areas. While in the hotspot, a laptop user can simply connect to the network, a
Earlier today, I saw a post saying that Matt Cutts’ blog got hacked. I checked it out and sure enough:
(Dark SEO and Matt Cutts supposedly don’t get along. I guess I have’t been following long enought to know much of the details on this.)
Since it is April Fools day, I didn’t think anything of it. But later on, I was checking out my Personalized page where I have setup a couple useful gadgets that help keep me updated on a couple different things including Matt Cutt’s blog. After reading a couple of his most recent blog posts, I became convinced that this was an April Fool’s Day joke. For those of you who don’t have Matt Cutts in your feed readers, I have a screenshot:
On a related note, it seems like the people over at Google have a pretty good sense of humor.
I didn’t want to ruin it, so that is all I am going to give you.

I did a quick search for “Matt Cutts gets hacked” and found that
THESE still are early days for the Internet, globally speaking. One billion people online; five billion to go.The next billion to be connected are living in homes that are physically close to an Internet gateway. They await a solution to the famous "last mile" problem: extending affordable broadband service to each person's doorstep. Here in the United States, 27 percent of the population lacks access to the Internet, according to a study completed last year by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. Among those who do have access, about 30 percent still rely on slow dial-up connections. The last mile for households with no or slow connections may be provided by radio signals sent out by transmitters perched atop street lights, as hundreds of cities have rolled out municipal Wi-Fi networks, or are in the process of doing so.The impulse behind these projects is noble. It's a shame, however, that lots of street lamps and lots of dollars — a typical deployment in an urban set
