Wing Commander IV Inserito originariamente da Abriael It was 1990 when a game that was set to become an absolute revolution in PC gaming was released: Wing Commander. The game, produced by Origins, put the player in the shoes of an Earth Federation pilot during the war with the brutal Kilrathi alien race (younger gamers might be familiar with the story due to the move with the same title, loosely based on Wing Commander's story) and featured absolutely stunning graphics for that time, but even more than that, it introduced a quite new concept: Between missions the player was presented with a beautiful and complex story trough a long sequence of cutscenes (more or less like in the Ace Combat Franchise). The war against the Kilrathi continued trough three main installment of the serie
Let’s get one thing straight — Wing Commander is awesome. Even now, it stands as one of the best space shooters to ever exist. Hell, it even made Mark Hammill semi-relevant again for a few years. Now we’re on the verge of a new era in Wing Command, as Electronic Arts has just recently released it’s Wing Commander Arena. To promote their new addition to the Arcade line-up, EA is holding a little contest.
The biggest damn contest I’ve ever seen!
EA is giving one lucky winner a Sega Genesis (w/ Sega CD), a SNES, a 3DO, a Playstation, a Game Boy Advance and a Gateway P1 PC, as well as copies of every Wing Commander available on each console! Oh, that doesn’t include the Xbox 360 Elite and 11,000+ MS Points you’ll be getting.
To enter, go HERE, and you can read the full list of stuff after the break.

The recent Street Trace: NYC community event has led to a blowout in not just Street Trace news but Wing Commander Arena news! The most important of which comes straight from DaKing240, who you may recall dropped hints prior to the WCA announcement about it's existence. Still, remember to take this with a grain of salt. According to DaKing240, Wing Commander Arena will be "coming soon... my guess is within 3-4 weeks".Next up is that Gamertag Radio has released a podcast containing an interview with Gaia industries about Street Trace: NYC and a bit about Wing Commander Arena. The Wing Commander CIC has transcribed the Wing Commander Arena portion and posted it on their site, but of course you can always listen to the excellent Gamertag Radio for the full interview. They also took this lovely shaky cam.Source : xblarcade.comTechnorati Tags: Wing Ciommander, XBLA, Xbox Live Arcade
Word on the street today is that EA has announced a new Wing Commander game titled Wing Commander: Arena for XBox Live. Here's a snippet from the official announcement:
Wing Commander Arena is a fast-paced space combat game where players can team up to attack other teams of ships. The game introduces the classic franchise to an arcade-style experience that allows up to 16 players online in battle at once. Players can propel their customized ship through space, fire torpedoes and unleash deadly gravity bombs as they try to climb the leader board. Online players will compete for Frag count, high score and dueling stats.
Sounds pretty sweet no?
It's my sincere hope that something like this can be developed into an MMO. Wing Commander has always had a dedicated fanbase and would make a great space combat based MMORPG. Keep your eyes peeled for more news as the game's release (slated for Summer '07) approaches

The ESRB has a tendency to announce games before they are supposed to be public knowledge. When they updated their ratings for the Xbox 360, two titles immediately popped out: Double Dragon, and Wing Commander, although it was renamed “Wing Commander Arena.” Don’t believe me? Look for yourself. Double Dragon, which is being ported by Empire Interactive, is rumored to be getting a graphical polish before it’s release, much like games like Contra and Time Pilot has received. (For the record, both games have “Enhanced” and “Original” options for the game’s graphics)
As for Wing Commander Arena, we know almost nothing. Other than the fact that it’s going to be released by Electronic Arts. And that it’s Wing Commander, which is really reason enough to get excited, when you think about it.
You know, publishers need to sit down with the ESRB and say “Listen, we don’t want you putting our games on your list until we
