We were talking about going to the pool and now the sky has grown dark and the wind has picked up big time - you would not know it looking at these pictures from my walk to town yesterday afternoon.Rain hit just after 2am last night - woke me up with a start rushing to close the windows which unfortunately woke Paul up too. After talking to chunkyruth in min
It looks like another front is headed our way. I had planned to go out on Miss Pass-A-Grille for the full day trip Saturday, but winds are forecast for 15-20 knots, so… looks like I’ll be grouper and flounder fishing on the Pier instead.

Everyone, it seems, compares The Boxing Lesson to Pink Floyd. And well why not? Paul Waclawsky, lead singer and songwriter is a big Floyd fan without shame. But don't fear dear ones, this Floyd hater fell in love with Wild Streaks & Windy Days anyway. No, it's not because this is the very first band to enter my mail box, (ooh I've been de-flowered in yet another manner!) and no, it's not beca

When it is windy, it is cold here. I remember when I was in Portugal in January - I could go to the shore of Atlantic Ocean and feel very comfortable for a long time watching spectacular waves and feeling the might of the nature.
Here when it blows from the sea, it is rather cold.

It may surprise many people to learn that Chicago's nickname of "Windy City" doesn’t come from the winds that blow off Lake Michigan during the harsh winters, but rather from the windy debates that take place among the city’s political players. After the United States Supreme Court ruled that Washington D.C.'s outright gun ban was unconstitutional, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley did his best to r

No, not me, the weather. I am amazed at the bloom on my apple and crabapple trees this year, the frost did not seem to have affected them. Of course with the weather as it is I am mostly looking at them through the window. As a friend mentioned to me, when I asked her if she was in her garden lately, she is mostly trying to keep up with the grass. It is that time of year, the warming, yet still cool temperatures and spring rains spell fast growing grass. I am very remiss in mowing, but it is looking a little shaggy even for my tastes. I would have mowed the other day, but misplaced the keys to the tractor. I am always doing that, but this time I outsmarted myself. It seems like a game with me and my mind.... hiding things from each other. I am going to check my jeans pocket.... maybe I left

Call it providence, serendipity, or karma, we were able to find a place on half an acre of land. Are you kidding me? Half an acre? 15 minutes from downtown? That is really a find in a city where land and homes are at a premium and where we have an "urban growth boundary". I am not even 100% sure what that is, but I know it is non-negotiable...We have more wind at this altitude, which is also good...will help with mildew and other no-goodniks that thrive here. Our family named our place Windy Hill...no commentary on lack of originality...the name has sentimental meaning...Anyhoo, we moved into this mid century daylight ranch, which couldn't be

It's Windy here in old London town. I almost got wrestled down to the floor by the wind yesterday. It was like a full on wrestle. I thought I was going to drop to the floor and die, namely of embarrassment. This people battering wind didn't prevent the girls from wearing hot pants with ballerina pumps and no tights, and the fellas from wearing T-shirts, three quarter lengths and Birkenstocks though. Clearly they wanted to invite hypothermia into their lives. As always the weather in the UK is completely random and erratic. However, despite the grey overcast, winds and occassional rain, Summer is upon us and showing. Late into the evening past 5 'o clock and it's not pitch black outside. It'd be nice if we got to experience a nice Summer this year, given how the Bajan Clingon that is Rihanna
Landing a plane in strong winds isn't always easy. The German airline Lufthansa said its pilots averted a crash at Hamburg airport after winds of more than 150 mph caused a plane with 130 passengers on board to veer dangerously on landing. It can't have been pleasant. The airliner grazed its wingtip (you can see this in the video) on the runway before the pilot wrestled it back off the ground. The amateur video footage shown below was played repeatedly on German television. Maybe to show how good German pilots are! Which, of course, they are. Takes a good pilot to know what to do in such circumstances. The plane came back for a second, successful, landing!
Who says its cold and windy around Canada Square at this time of year? There's a contrast between the winter coats and the hardy souls out shopping in shirt sleeves or even standing in shirt for a chat. Of course, there's vastly more people moving about underground in the various tunnels and malls of this area of London's Canary Wharf. I was 'in transit' but decided to sit outdoors for one of my conference calls, and this was the wintry view.

Sunday night, the wind is blowing and I'm ready for a cup of tea and my book. We never seem to get around to buying proper book shelves, so our books seem to be constantly moving...from beside the bed to the closet, to the window seat...sometimes taking a break in in the basement, but more often than not they're lent to a friend or given to our daughter...she has bookshelves. And sometimes when I'm at her house, I browse through her shelves, pick up a book that interests me and realize, that it's my book or at least was mine. We are book lovers. I'm reading two books right now, "Love in the Time of Cholera," and "The Lion, the Fox and The Eagle." I'm not sure which one I'll reach for first tonight...And I painted this weekend. I finished two new pieces, a Frida and a Nun, both with crows a

WOW - it is so windy here. Theres a storm in the gulf (Noel) but thats not what's causing it. It seems that the two fronts are converging and causing all the wind. It's not raining much, which is a good thing. We're of couse watching Tropical Storm Noel because he will probably go just off the coast of Florida which will cause some rainy windy weather but hopefully not much else.
You open a door and if the wind catches it, it gets pulled open and it's also kindof hard to get a cigarrette lit (oh don't worry I'm managing). The next couple of days the weather should be getting progressively worse until the storm is north of us - it's supposed to stay well off shore but we'll still see some of the bands of weather. They say Tomorrow more wind, and then Thursday the rain will pick up.
Since it's not a hurricane, I can deal with the wind and rain portion.
It's October and the days are getting shorter and the winds are getting stronger! Some days are warm and sunny and some are cloudy and cool. The rainy season is upon us all and it's hard to know what to wear day to day. So what's a Diva to do?! Here's my recommendation for a fashionable way to weather the weather this time of year.Keep it simple. You don't want to fuss with a lot of accessories. Light layers will help you adjust to the changing temps. I think a cotton or cashmere tunic with a tank top underneath is comfortable and cute for all kinds of event - shopping all day with the girls, brunch with your mom or even dinner out. Pair that with some great jeans for a casual yet cute look. Shoes, as always, are ver
In screening the independent film “Grace is Gone” today, I learned that it was shot in Chicago and the Chicago suburb of Itasca, Ill. Both Bednarczyk and O’Keefe have their debut performances in this film.Cusack plays a father who – upon hearing his wife was killed in the Iraq war – takes his two daughters on a road trip. 7:14 p.m. update: I was just informed that “Grace is Gone” writer/director James Strouse is no longer joining this press junket.
The week with Gaston Christian School turned out awesome. We just returned this afternoon from a few days' getaway at Young Life's Windy Gap Camp just north of Asheville, NC. Had an awesome time. The first night Tasha and I found a rubber python under our pillows. No one would fess up. I thought it was a pretty sweet prank. Tasha didn't much care for it. The Lord did some really cool things in the lives of the students. Over 200 high school students were there ready for God to speak. Austin Rammell, pastor of Hardin Baptist Church, one of the fastest growing churches in Gaston County, was the speaker for the week. It was awesome to renew the friendship Austin and I had back in Virginia when we were students at Liberty University.Last night was definitely a major highlight. After a powerful message by Austin dealing with pride and humility, many of the students stayed around for at least another hour dealing with sin in their lives on their knees in prayer as we led in an u

Boy the wind really picked up this afternoon/evening. The fence between our house and the neighbors blew down over the winter sometime. It still hasn't been fixed, but they propped it up. Well, I'm sitting here with the patio door open and watching it. It's blowing back and forth and creaking. LOL I'm sure if this wind keeps up for any amount of time, the fence will be blown over and propped against my garden. But....I just looked at it and it's leaning in towards their yard, so who knows? LOL
Today was the first day for a while when it has not been raining all day, I know other bloggers like Moi are desperate for rain, but I for one am glad it stopped today, well mostly. My wife and I decided to go to Whixall Moss which is a vast nature reserve managed by Natural England . Whixall is one of a group of mosses the others being Fenn's, Bettisfield, Wem & Cadney Mosses. They form a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and straddle the English/Welsh border near Whitchurch, they are of international importance for wildlife. The Mosses are one of the most southerly lowland raised bogs in Britain and, at 948 hectares (2,340 acres), are the third largest.I like to visit here several times a year as the moss is home to several unique insects, that can not be seen anywhere else in the Midlands. Today was also the first proper day that I have been out to photograph Dragonflies and although it was extremely windy I wasn't disappointed. In fact in someways it helped because the d
Tuesday Tasting is a regular feature of Lyke2Drink that explores some of the best beers, wines and spirits on the market. This week we spend a couple of days in Chicago trying out a few beers.I was in Chicago to pick up my daughter, Brhea, from Loyola University. Before the packing and moving, we had time to tour the Windy City and stop by a few bars and restaurants. Chicago is one of America's great tavern towns. You could easily spend a few lost weekends on Clark Street and only scratch the surface. One of the places we stopped at was Sheffield's Beer and Wine Garden just a few blocks from Wrigley Field. They have several bars at Sheffield's, plus an outdoor beer garden. We sampled two interesting brews. Two Brothers Victor's MemoriAle Altbier was a highlight of the trip to Chicago. Brewed about 30 miles west of Chicago, this draught beer was a dark and malty brew that was very refreshing. Later during the trip at another location I had the chance to try Two Brothers Domaine DuPa
Jakartans should get ready with umbrellas and raincoats, with May slated to see heavy rain and strong wind in the afternoons, according to the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency (BMG). The head of BMG's weather forecasting division, Achmad Zakir, said May will be the transition period between the rainy and dry seasons for most of Jakarta.

Your Monday Photo Shoot: Snap a picture of wind. Naturally, it's difficult to get a picture of the wind itself, being that air is generally transparent. however, it's easier to get a picture of how the wind is affecting other things: hair, flags, kites, so on and so forth.
Here's Mine:
Winds are gusting up to 40 mph. The winds are not the issue, the fact that we had about 9 inches of rain and
I've had a suspicion from the start of this whole thing that going cycling on the west coast of Ireland in March was probably a bit of a silly thing to do, especially when I was advised not to camp due to soggy ground and gale force winds - but I'm not so easily put off doing silly things so I went and did it anyway (the cycling, not the camping). Today looked a bit rainy and miserable from the start - so I put off going out on the bike until the afternoon, when it was still a bit miserable and quite windy, but I didn't want to waste one of two days here so set off anyway, in the direction of the Cliffs of Moher. I rode out of Doolin, and the road soon started to take an upward turn. At one point it got steep enough that I had to get off and push (note: if a road is that hard to get up, it's probably pretty scary coming down) The wind picked up quite quickly as I ascended, fortunately it was behind me - if it'd been against me, I probably would have turned back. When I reached t
Like a veteran boxer going back for one last shot at the title only to find that he's well past his prime, the nations housing market is getting pummeled from all sides.
Beaten, bruised, and bloodied, this contender would have been "down for the count†long ago had it not been for the persistent prodding and pumping by his handlers who shriek for more from his corner.
For shame! For this fighter, now down on one knee, is in perfect position for his opponent to t-off that final blow that will land him face down on the canvas for a long nighty-night.
