Today was the nitty gritty phase of my training to set a 5K pr: Intervals.Four sets of 1,000-meters with a rest period of 3:30 in between each interval. The rest period is so you can recover, get your heart rate back to under 75 percent.It was 65 degrees. Humid. And windy. Very windy. (This is tornado season in Texas, right?)I probably should have skipped this workout on the weather alone, but off I went.And I felt good on the first interval, which I completed in 4:13. Norwegian Majesty’s arrival into Charleston this weekend has been delayed by one day. The ship will now arrive Sunday, November 18, 2007 because of several factors. On her return to Charleston, Norwegian Majesty was called by the Bermuda Rescue Command Center to come to the aid of a person in a sailboat who needed immediate medical attention. The passenger is currently being treated on board the ship. Also on the return, high winds and heavy seas necessitated the ship to operate at a reduced speed. In addition, planned maintenance during the ship’s stay in Bermuda included the overhaul of a cylinder head on one of the main engines. Unfortunately, after departure, a seal on the new unit developed a minor leak and required remedial work to correct it. Even if the engine had not had this issue, the ship would not be able to go any faster than the speed she is presently doing because of the heavy seas and strong wind conditions.

Sometimes changes can be things that we have waited and prayed for for years, but other times it entails things that we never thought possible. And never think we will survive. Things which make us feel out of control, and a bit freaked out. I’m again referring to the job changes that I’ve been through these last two months. It is scary. To start at a new place. Each time I am reminded of how vulnerable I can actually feel. Going through the heartbreak that relationships can sometimes cause I thought nothing could ever scare me more. Among them we found Ingmar Bergman, the world famous Swedish film director. We reached by the message that he had passed away early Monday mo(u)rning. You know, rumors travels fast on a little island! Mother nature seemed to cry for him too - the whole sky were having tears dropping down on us… Per, the beloved farmer we rent our summer living from, have of course met Ingmar butt not only that, he also have played a smaller role in one of his films, I can’t remember which one though. He has played in another Swedish film too. They hired local people on the island to get it more authentic. One of his tasks was to crash a piano and he got harsh order from Bergman to be really ill-tempered and make the pieces fly! …and s

Garcia battled against some fairly strong winds to maintain his lead in the British Open. Sergio Garcia still has a two stroke lead after he played nine holes at Carnoustie today. Last night Garcia was at six under par at 65. Today it looked for a moment as if he was going to drop a shot after he went into the thick rough on the 406-yard first hole. However somehow, magically, Garcia was able to float the ball up and on to the putting green in one shot with his most lofted wedge and the ball went within a foot of the hole. It was then easy to tap the ball in for par. Other events of the day saw the American golfer Jim Furyk, who won the US Open in 2003, joining McGinley at four under par. 30th Year of Fireworks by Grucci in New LondonI thought there would be a photo of fireworks on this post.  I wasn't counting on light winds from the southwest that had their own ideas about fireworks.  Several hundred people gathered in the parking lots near the Submarine Veteran's Memorial in Groton.  Thousands of others were on the banks of the river along Thames Street. Over 100,000 people come from all over New England to view the event as part of New London's Sailfest event. Our spot was seemingly perfect.  I've watched fireworks from the same vantage before.  It was 9:25 and the very first of the shells exploded.  It was a spectacular start as we've come to expect from a Grucci performance.  But those southwest winds blew the smoke from the fireworks in our direction and stubbornly drifted between the fireworks and thousands of people watching.  For about 10 minutes there was silence from the spectators in our parki
