Windows Live Writer is out of beta and into “Windows Live Writer 2008“. No really amazing new features apart from easier Windows Live Spaces creation. Hopefully some interesting plugins will come out for it on the Wordpress side now! Overall I’m doing all my blogging from Windows Live Writer so I’m happy to see this, who would have known I liked blogging from a program more than the Admin Control Panel!
Boy did I get it wrong last night! For some reason after Becky Pezely emailed me I got it into my head that Beta 3 of Windows Live Writer had come out but it hadn’t!

You can save as many drafts as you like on your computer to be published later It supports all the formatting tags that blogger has. You get so focused on the content of your blog posting, that you forget to add the categories and tags for it. I usually have to go back and add this afterwards, each time thinking that I'll do better with the next posting. Windows Live Writer can be set to remind you to add categories and/or tags before publishing.Here's how to enable this helpful functionality:1. Open Windows Live Writer.2. Click Tools and select Options.3. Select Preferences from the left pane.4. Under Publishing, check the Remind me to add categories before publishing and/or the Remind me to add tags before publishing checkboxes.5. Click OK.
9 months after the release of the first beta version of Windows Live Writer (WLW), Microsoft announced on May 30th the release of the beta 2 version. I like WLW and i have been using it since i started to blog.
Many bloggers talked about the neat features of WLW beta 2, so i won’t bother you with that stuff. I would rather concentrate on the rather painful and undocumented upgrade process from beta 1 to beta 2 on Windows Vista. I expected the installation will be simple and straightforward, but unfortunately, i spent around 30 minutes gathering information until i finally tweaked it and made it work .
So for my readers’ benefit, i woudl like to outline the right installation/upgrade process for WLW beta 2:
1. If you have WLW beta 1 installed, ensure that all work is backed up. This can be done using WLW backup, a routine which i reviewed not long ago.
2. Using your Control Panel, remove Windows Live Writer beta 1.

Windows Live Writer Beta 2 is out. Others have blogged about it's many new features. To be sure it's one of the nicer off-line blog editors available today. But alas, with all the new features came one really annoying bug. When I first start the program, it pegs the CPU for about 5 minutes. Fortunately, there's a fix. There is a new version of Windows Live Writer available. It looks prettier and has squiggly line spell checking but beyond that I don't know if it offers a lot. My problems with Live Writer in the past has been its inability to upload pictures to Blogger (which by all accounts is Blogger's fault) and its inability to check for new versions. I only found out about this new version after stumbling across a review of it. Admittedly, programs that do check for updates tend to upset me as well since they seem to require a new install every time I run them, so there's no pleasing me... Anyhoo, I'll see if it uploads images now. Time passes... OK, so it can't upload images to Blogger directly but it will upload them to an FTP site and hook them into the page. The FTP integration is pretty sweet, although I guess it'll be no use to a lot of punters. But it solves my problem. Microsoft has now rolled out a standalone blogging application, Windows Live Writer, which not only works with the Live family but with Blogger, LiveJournal, and any blogging system that supports one of a broad range of APIs. So why use a standalone program to do your blogging, when almost every online blogging service out there already has a fairly powerful WYSIWYG interface that runs in your Web browser? After working with Windows Live Writer, I think the answer is pretty self-evident. Ran this yesterday, supplied my Wordpress blog address, my user-name and password and was able to see my current blog page and also to create a page from within this application and load it up, just like using Wordpress. Good. Need to investigate whether there is any additional functionality compared to Wordpress.
Exited out of Live Writer and attempted to log-in to Wordpress. No can do. Each time I entered the user-name and password it came back space-filled. Pretty sure that though I had exited out of Live Writer and therefore should not have been logged into my Wordpress account via Live Writer, I was still logged in. Hence why I couldn’t log-in a second time via Wordpress.
