Yesterday I wrote about my experiences trying out WidgetBox and YourMinis, and I even talked a little about it with Alec in O’Flaherty #10. I wasn’t very happy with WidgetBox because I couldn’t get the widget I created for O’Flaherty to embed easily into my MySpace profile. The fault was not all at the feet of WidgetBox and it appears that MySpace had rolled out a new image verification feature, for when you attempt to modify your profile, which broke WidgetBox’s system. Omar Megdadi from WidgetBox Support was kind enough to email me explaining what was going wrong and to grant me permission to republish his email: Hi Paul,Thanks for trying out Widgetbox and for adding your Blidget to our gallery!The night prior to your post, MySpace released a new feature that requires users to enter a visual code when updating their profiles.

All this talk of Technorati possibly entering the widgets game got me looking at WidgetBox and YourMinis today. WidgetBox First off let me say that both sites are great and both offer a vast array of widgets but, for my money, YourMinis has the edge as WidgetBox makes it too much of a chore to get your widget off of the service and on to your site of choice. The problem with WidgetBox is the need to install a panel on the site you wish to install widgets on before you can actually install any widgets. I tried to install a widget I created for this blog on my MySpace profile. After creating the widget I thought it would be a simple matter of simply copying and pasting the code into my profile. Unfortunately this was not the case. I tried to use their system to automatically add the widget to my profile but it didn’t work. So next I tried to add the code manually. Todo empezo una tarde (aunq diga noche). Mi querido amigo Jhanus habia arreglado su blog, le puso un banner, se hizo un botón, pero lo que más me sorprendió fue la columna de botones de otros bloggers que tiene, es inmensa. Mi curiosidad me obligó a buscar la forma de hacer lo mismo. Despues de varios intentos tuve que preguntarle como poner el banner (cosa q el diseñó por cierto) y la columna tambien la terminó haciendo él. Yo, un completo inepto en HTML, CSS o CCS o como sea... no tenia ni la menor idea de que hizo ni como lo hizo ni porque lo hizo (bueno, lo hizo porq se lo pedí). Antes de que lo hiciera traté de copiar parte de su codigo fuente a ver si conseguia lo mismo q él (vaya derechos de autor...). Sobra decir q no conseguí mucho. Aun asi mi blog ya se veia más simpatico, tenia su banner y su columna de botones de otros bloggers. Revisando en su codigo fuente encontré la palabra widget y esta estaba relacionada con la columna de botonos. No la pensé dos veces
