"I can't get you to pay if you've got no skin in the game," says Lauria, senior vice president of Popular Mortgage Servicing in Cherry Hill, N.J., who says 14% of his customers with subprime loans — high-interest loans given to people with poor credit ratings — are in default. White House missing CIA and Iraq e-mails
What appear to be gaps in White House Email archives, may in fact coincide with negative press events during President Bush's term. A chart discolsed by Rep. Henry Waxman, CA Democrat, indicated that among the times for which e-mails have not been archived from Vice President Dick Cheney's office are four days in early October 2003, just as a federal probe was beginning into the leak of Valerie Plame's CIA identity. Also missing is a five-day span starting on Jan. 29, 2004, when the White House was dealing with the possibility of an election-year probe by Congress into Iraq intelligence failures. Can it be a mere coincidence that some of the missing e-mail correspond to a key period during the Valerie Plame investigation? asked Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens f

Ron Paul White House bid raises $4.5 million
Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, an anti-war libertarian who has clashed with his rivals over Iraq, raised a record $4.5 million in a one-day Internet fund-raising event on Sunday, his campaign said in a statement. Paul’s campaign said the Texas congressman had received more than 41,000 donations by early evening, shattering a $4.2 million record in a 24-hour period last month. So far, the campaign has taken in over $16 million in the fourth quarter with two weeks remaining, the statement said. Paul, an obstetrician-gynecologist from the Houston area, has been a formidable presence in Republican presidential debates, challenging top rivals like former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain and strongly condemning the Iraq war. Paul still registers low in national polls of the November 2008 elections race, but routinely scores much higher in Internet surveys and snap polls taken after debates. Road To White House Paved In Gold
I'm wondering if the road to the White House is paved in gold. Is the campaign trail broken? Is the system down? Have we eliminated the honor and truth from our Presidential election process, and made it simply a corporate event? What I mean is, is it all about money?I think the wealthier candidates, or those with more financial backing, have an unfair advantage over candidates with less money. Money can buy a lot. It can pay to bus groups of people around. It can pay volunteers with coffee and donuts to go door to door and solicit votes. It can pay for signs, better ad spots, and more public appearances. There must be some way we can reengineer things to balance the playing field. Could technology be the answer?
