Whistler is one of those ski resorts that you’ll not have heard of unless you live in Canada but that doesn’t mean that it’s any lesser of a resort for that. In fact, chances are that you’ll find more virgin snow than you would in one of the resorts that you’ve heard of before.
Whistler accommodation is of consistently high quality as you’d expect for a Canadian resort. There’s a wide selection including everything from apartments in the village if you want to be at the centre for easy access to shopping, restaurants and night-life. Personally I quite fancy something like Benchlands in the photo: I could see myself tucked up in bed looking at the drifting snow. It’s only 3 minutes from the village too so Wendy wouldn’t miss out on the shops and in ‘tother direction it’s just 3 minutes to the slopes.

When I went on vacation as a little girl my parents either stayed at a relatives house or brought a tent and stayed at a camp ground. I was 9 or 10 years old before I stayed in a hotel for the first time. So the whole idea of homes specifically for vacation rental is something pretty new to me. Some good news to report. I had not see the Whistler - Tom, andhis wife Marion for several months at the restaurant. As they areboth in their 80's, with Marion beset by Alzheimers, I had fearedthe worst. But last week they reappeared out of the blue. I thenfound out that they had been through a rough few months. Marionfell and broke her hip; she gets around with a cane VERY slowlynow. And Tom had some health issues himself, high blood pressureand some circulation problems, both of which called for a changein diet (no, the restaurant is NOT for health nuts!). But they areback, for now anyway. Sadly, Marion's Alzheimers seems to havegotten worse; in the past, she would occasionally have a good day,but since their return, not one yet. But they still have their oddhabits, such as drinking a beer in a wine glass while eating extracrisp bacon and a super rare burger, with a side of potato saladtopped with blue cheese dressing . O.K., whatever works!

It's both a development and a departure in my style insofar as I've usually only done parts of pictures like this in the past but rarely the whole image. What I like about it is that it allows me to work with more marks showing and with more emphasis on the colours and the colour mixing.
