When interviewing for internships or jobs, it’s important to remember that everything you do from the moment you arrive at an interview location may be observed and noted. This could be something as unexpected as the parking attendant noticing how dirty your car is to the receptionist noticing whether you read the company annual report or sit staring at the wall while waiting in the recept
As documented here, during a recent Father's Day speech at a Chicago Church where he addressed the problem of absent black fathers, Senator Barack Obama said, "We need fathers* to recognize that responsibility doesn't just end at conception."In an ad put out by the Family Research Council, FRC President Tony Perkins responds to the Senator from Illinois by asking, "If, as you say, fatherhood begin
Aaron Levin Hoarding may be a psychiatric symptom, but is it just one part of obsessive-compulsive disorder or does it stand alone? Since the dawn of hunting and gathering, some people have always gathered more than others and just couldn't bear to part with it. When such behavior crosses the line from the eccentric into the DSM-IV realm, it becomes a symptom-hoarding-the compulsion to acquire ob
In one of the weirdest looks at people’s thinking, let’s ask the audience first what does “Don’t be evil” mean to you. Did you immediately think of Microsoft, RIAA, and Big Oil? The Hillary Obama issues. Republicans? What did you think of, odds are highly likely you might have also thought of Google’s famous tag [...]

All the talk is about Microsoft stock.
Yahoo expects social network domination with Y!Open. Yeah, right. Meanwhile I think Microsoft has no idea about the porn on Yahoo as they keep the bid in play.

The government will soon be able to read your mind. Government-paid researchers are working on technology now that will be able to read your brain waves telling them what you are thinking or if you have been up to no good. But will we care?

For the last two years, interest rates have been much lower than anytime during the last thirty years. This has resulted in an unprecedented boom in real estate sales, home refinancing and home equity lending, as borrowers try to take advantage of these rates for the long term. Questions are flying into the blog (well, I've had one or two enquiries) asking when Danny Baldwin is returning to Coronation Street. I have it on good authority that he'll be back this summer. How do I know? It says so on Bradley Walsh's website right here. For more official websites of Coronation Street actors, have a peek here. And for the answers to some of the other frequently asked Corrie questions, have a look here.
Firstly, I'm honoured to guest post here, while, ahem, some people get to go away on holiday! ;) I struggled to think what to post about, and then I saw a film trailer...When does fiction become unbelievable?I haven't seen 10,000 BC yet, but I gather that the mammoths play a large part in the creation of the Ancient Egyptians' pyramids. Fine, I'll accept that: it's fiction, a ridiculous premise, but it sounds quite fun. A strange alternate history. What still bugs me is that the mammoths gallop at speeds of upwards of 60 kilometres per hour. What?! I can accept that they hung around several tens of thousands longer than in actual reality, but during that time, they also devised some way to motorise themselves?! Perhaps in hundreds of thousands of years worth of evolution, they developed li
For the last two years, interest rates have been much lower than anytime during the last thirty years. This has resulted in an unprecedented boom in real estate sales, home refinancing and home equity lending, as borrowers try to take advantage of these rates for the long term. But refinancing or even borrowing against your home’s equity may not make sense for everyone. When is it a good idea to refinance your home? When is it not advisable? Traditionally, lenders advised homeowners not to refinance unless doing so would lower the interest rate on the loan by 1-2%. While anyone who can save 2% on their interest rate would almost certainly benefit from doing so, others might find refinancing worthwhile even with a smaller reduction in the interest rate. Increased competition among lenders
You may be aware of a copywriting practice known as “swiping.” Most copywriters have a “swipe file” of successful letters, and they “swipe” ideas from these letters. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the practice. In fact, it’s a very good idea. But I’ve noticed a lot of people taking it to an extreme. Some copywriters seem to be so lazy that they just take a successful letter - normally a famous one - and insert their own information. I don’t know… maybe it’s just me. But I call that plagairism.
Let’s ignore for a moment that plagairizing someone else’s work is unethical. It’s also a very poor idea for effective copywriting.
The whole principle of copywriting is connecting a certain prospect with a certain product - with a carefully written letter. But when you take that letter - change a few words - and then use it to sell something completely different to a completely different group of
Tonight saw the Oxford Union surrounded by protesting students. They were up in arms against the appearance of two right wingers, a politician and and a ‘historian’, at a debate. So far so good. But the protesters stopped the debate going ahead. People protesting against fascism stopped an open, public debate. I’m sorry but I don’t get it.
You want to stop fascism? Win the argument. Have the debate, on TV, and argue the case and let’s get rid of this nonsense for ever.
I disagree with what the two guests stand for (hence no names) but I believe they have the right to be wrong and I have the right to tell them so, but they still have the right to disagree. That’s called democracy. It means having to put up with people saying things you find abhorrent because to ban them from speaking is fascism, the very thing the poor misguided smart kids were trying to stop.
The protesters were also trying to stop the debate getting publicity. We
Time change! Did you know when?
In North America daylight saving time begins at 2:00 am on the first Sunday in March.
Daylight saving time gets back to standard time on the first Sunday in November. However some areas don’t switch at all examples:
Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and Arizona.
They are various reasons why does area don’t change like geography position superficies etc.
Do I have to remember you that it is an excellent time to check your fire alarm batteries? And any other fire evacuation plan you should review… It is always good to be prepare

Surprise, It’s not the day you purchase your Columbus condo.
It’s the day the developer gets the certificate of occupancy for the entire project or a block of units in the project. The other day I wondered aloud what will happen when all the tax abatement given for the downtown condos begin to run out. That prompted this post.
If you’re looking to purchase a home in downtown Columbus that advertises a 10 year tax abatement and was built and ready to go 2 years ago and you’re purchasing a new unit that hasn’t been lived in yet, you may only have Eight Years left on your tax abatement— even though you just bought it. Be pro-active and if your Realtor isn’t on top of it, make sure you are.
Also, Don’t forget that Tax Abatement Does Not Mean No Taxes Whatsoever. If it’s a new build, your likely to be taxed your portion of the value of the land pre-construction. If it’s a rehab project, you&rsqu
We work all our lives, kindergarten, elementary school, Middle school, high school, undergrad, Grad and then to our job. We work for atleast 60+ years just to reach retirement? Is that what life really means? This kind of ties into my earlier post, but doesn’t it seem all fruitless to truly achieve that age where you’ve achieved everything so late in life? As a 16 year old I see so much ahead of me and I see myself asking the question, “Is it really worth it?” So much of work for those few years of ease. And most people don’t even have ease at that age either, they work. So life is pretty much work with a bit of fun? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Fun with a bit of work? When did that ratio change? Or has it been always that way? Is it time we changed it?

One of the questions I ask in the book is when, or at what point does the increasing depravity of the world stop. A new example is the new kiddie porn movie shown at the Toronto film festival. While, the actress was 18 at the time of the filming, she depicted a 13 year old that was being abused by her adult neighbor, her father and engaged in sexual relations with her boyfriend all in graphic detail. One of the actors, Aaron Eckhart, rationalized his part in the movie by saying that it brought attention to child abuse. I think that you can make people aware of abuse without acting it out in great detail on the screen. While many who watched it walked out, many watched. How much longer will it be before no one walks out? Our consciences and our sensibilities are being worn down by popular culture. One of the best things (to me) it being so proud for them, even in the simplest of tasks, like dressing oneself. B loves to pick his own clothes, and dress himself. He takes such pride in doing it all on his own, right down to doing up the buttons, even if they are crooked. I do straighten them out for him, when he asks. There are more times than others, when he doesn't really "match". I am not a believer than mismatched clothing on a 5 year old is a fashion faux pas. You can always identify the self-dressers when at the library, the park or the grocery store. I think it is adorable. Today B dressed himself, comes into my room, "How do I look, Mom?" I held back the gasp at the bright red athletic shorts with the orange and brown plaid dress shirt all buttoned up, and said, "Great my love, but do you think that shirt really goes well with those shorts?" and then was immediately pissed off at myself for saying it. He replied in the calmest of manners, "I don't care if they don't match
This is 'obstructive sleep apnea' week at Cracking the Sleep Code. The tips will cover symptoms, health risks and different treatment options. Obstuctive sleep apnea or OSA is a sleep disorder defined as cessation of breath during sleep. The definition can get much more technical but for all intense and purposes we'll keep it simple. A sleep study will show how many times you stopped breathing and tell the physician if it is severe enough to diagnosis you with sleep apnea. Todays tip is a little elementary but necessary. If you are a snorer and you consistently feel short on sleep regardless of how long you slept then it's time to go to the specialist. Every sleep apnea website will tell you that the combination of snoring/tired is a red flag for sleep apnea. If you add the symptom of witnessed apnea or in simpler terms...someone heard you stop breathing during your sleep then the flag is no longer red ---it's on fire. The health risks of this sleep disorder are alar
The idea for this post came after observing my brother graduate out of school, and his efforts to “upgrade” his lifestyle according to what he deemed “proper” for a professional engineer working in multi-billion dollar firm. I shouldn’t really single out my brother because 99% of the students I know have gone on a similar path - it’s just that I wasn’t close enough to them to be able to observe their attitudes over an extended time frame. Anyways, coming back to lifestyle inflation, I think it probably starts gaining strength when you experience a “significant” event in your life - like graduating out of school and getting on a job, making a large ticket item purchase (house, car, etc.), marriage (may be even engagement), getting a raise, etc.
To make this a bit clearer, in the following, I will resort to some crude graphs along with my narration. I will stress here that these are my personal opinions; you may probably have a diff
Last week, we posted an article about MySpace and how 6 states' Attorneys Generals released a letter to MySpace demanding the site take responsibility for sexual offenders.
Well MySpace has agreed to give state authorities details about registered sex offenders known to have been users. The decision, announced yesterday, resolves last week’s standoff as originally News Corp. refused to turn over the data because law enforcement officials hadn’t followed the required legal process.
What do rulings like this mean for web 2.0 community sites? Sites like Myspace, Digg, Friendster are all run by the community. The community dictates what should and shouldn’t be done in their playground. As we saw a couple of weeks ago with Digg, anytime you get in the way of a community, you are taking the risk that they will retaliate. You can read a brief post on this titled “The Community Conundrum” at Fred Wilson’s blog, a partner at Union Square Ventures.

I got a great question in an email yesterday. The writer talked about being new to real estate investing and how there is so much information out there that seems to conflict with other information. Then he summed it all up with, “when does all of it click and make sense?”
Great question.

Life is an ever unfolding story and today was another exciting chapter! We landed our first copywriting project. Let me tell you the tale...Yesterday I went to church (Mile Hi Church, check it out when you're in the Denver area. It's based on Ernest Holmes Church of Religious Science) and set out the intention of creating one new client by this Friday, April 27th 2007. After attending service, I filled out a prayer request with the same intention and then I went about my day. Last night I came home to work on a few things and received a PM from a woman in the Warrior Forums. I had offered to help her and provide a testimonial for her new book. She gave me the link, thanked me and offered to help me in any way she could if I would only ask. So I did. I explained that I was a copywriter and was bringing on more clients. Perhaps she might know of someone and she could pass my information along. Free consultation I offered. :) She wrote back and said she needed a sales letter for the boo
clipped from Need A Cup Of Joe? Text Starbucks! Apparently, Starbucks receives thousands of calls each year from thirsty coffee drinks in search of the nearest coffee spot. Now, the caffeine-craving masses can send a text message with the area's zip code to MYSBUX (or 697289), and a list of nearby Starbucks stores will pop back. Customers using mobile devices with Web access will find a store locater by typing Starbucks.com. I suppose this would excite me more if I were a coffee fan or if I lived in a rural place where coffee shops were few and far between (seriously, there is a Starbucks in my building). As it stands most of the Starbucks cafes I've been to while on the road have looked at me like I was insane when I asked for a nonfat chai with only two pumps. Not to judge, just my experience people. Just my experience. If you're mad, just text them and see if they'll make it for you. It's deliciously light and delightful.feed
