      England force West Indies follow-on
Ryan Sidebottom claimed a six-wicket haul England are virtually assured victory in the second Test against West Indies after forcing the tourists to follow-on at Headingley. Michael Vaughan's side declared on 570-7 after an innings that saw Kevin Pietersen (226) hit his first ever Test double century, with West Indies skittled for just 146. Things got worse for Windies when after being asked to follow-on they lost two more wickets in their second innings to a resurgent Ryan Sidebottom to leave them on 22-2 at close of play. As well as Pietersen's menacing 226, Matt Prior (75) and Liam Plunkett (44 not out) contributed to England's daunting total; with Vaughan declaring immediately after Pietersen's run at the crease was ended by Dwayne Bravo. The tourists, bereft of injured captain Ramnaresh Sarwan, struggled in their innings, leaving Sidebottom – making his second Test appearance six years after his debut – with 4-42 and Plunkett 3-35. Opener Chris Gayle (5) was trappe

England v West Indies, Super Eights, Barbados
It’s a day of last hurrahs. England’s final match; West Indies last game; Duncan Fletcher’s and Brian Lara’s last in international cricket and, apart from those departing, it’s an utterly meaningless encounter. Due to Fletcher’s retirement, England are apparently now up for the match (which is nice). All we want is a Lara hundred though, [...]

It seems like Bangladesh have had a good World Cup after bashing a couple giants, but find themselves languishing at the footer of the Super Eights table. West Indies lose to New Zealand by seven wickets
In their second match of the Super Eight stage, the hosts West Indies lost to New Zealand in a low scoring match. In a one - sided World Cup super eight match, New Zealand thrashed West Indies by 7 wickets. The second consecutive defeat for the Caribbean players put them on the verge of world cup exit. On the other hand, Stephen Fleming led his side from the front and scored a brilliant 45, which laid the foundation for the rest of the batsmen. Scott Styris remained unbeaten with a convincing half century (80). Craig McMillan’s smashing 33 not out was no less. Shane Bond, Daniel Vettori and Jacob Oram all took three wickets to dismiss the West Indies for a paltry 177, only Chris Gayle (44) and Brian Lara (37) contributing. The innings started with Chanderpaul going in the 8th over when the score read 14-1. Sarawan followed without contributing much. Once, Lara got out, the stage was set for a debacle for the hosts. Though, Daren Powell struck twice early to give the hosts hope of

Australia routs West Indies by 103 Runs
The Australian cricketing juggernaut once again rolled over the feeble West Indian batsmen. Lara’s brilliant 77 was undoubtedly a great captain’s knock. But, the McGrath and Brad Hogg combination demolished the entire batting order of the Caribbeans. The kangaroos seem to clinch a convincing step towards another World Cup glory, this time in the Calypso. In this rain-interrupted and first to be held in the reserve day World Cup match, Australia put a formidable 323 victory target before Lara’s army. A resounding 158 by ever dependable Mathew Hayden was well supported by Clarke and Watson. This first Super Eight match for Australia was more of individual brilliance than team effort. The convincing victory came with 103 runs. Lara’s genius half – century and Ramdin’s 52 run went in vain without able support from other Caribbean. These two innings of artful drives and neat cuts failed to stop the Australian bowling machine led by McGrath and Brad Hogg. The entire Australian

      Australia beat West indies
What a match againit was a high scoring match by the Australian team again.Mathew Hayden made again a well 100+ runs as an opener ,He is having a great time out there. Other players just played around him.even rain could not save the host team from their first super round defeat.Australia won at the end by almost 100+ runs in this match comfortably and their team looks in super shapeIn other match the South africa beat Sri lankan team easily also. THe sri lankan batsman did not seem to be in comfort this time.Although their bowler did good job but the score was not that big for south africa. At the end Victory for african team also.Lets hope next matches are enjoyable in this Super group for all fans.

West Indies has minimal chance in the rain-postponed match against Australia
West Indies won the toss and elected to field first – and in a rain interrupted contest got the battering of a lifetime from Australia’s devastating opener Mathew Hayden who scored 158 runs, highest by any Australian in the World Cup. The pitch covers were brought upon in the innings break when the Oz’s had packed themselves in the dressing room post mauling the West Indies’ bowling for 322 for 6. Owing to bad light and rain, the match officials decided to call of the days play and postpone it sending the West Indies’ run chase into an overnight delay. As it is, 332 is a mammoth total in all condition anyhow – and it looks a distant reality for the hosts – Few reasons: • West Indies kickoff their batting at 9 in the morning – losing out on the advantage of batting later in the day, for which the crucial decision of bowling first was taken. • West Indies have been the most vulnerable batting order always, whether it was in ’75 and ’79 or in 2k7. • Austr

India vs Sri Lanka, West Indies vs Ireland
India go out of the 2007 World Cup if they don’t win tonight’s fixture against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Super 8’s start early, with West Indies and Ireland having already qualified in their group; the winner gets a flying start in the main section of the tournament. I’ll be blunt though and say that my enthusiasm for the 2007 World Cup has been diminished by the tragic murder of Bob Woolmer. It was bad enough when I heard that the house of Mahendra Singh Dhoni had been burnt down by demented Indian fans, and it was made much worse when I heard that Woolmer had died. But murder? The Aussie Rules season starts next weekend, and I’ll probably pay attention to that more then the cricket. Footy players get pretty badly bruised from time to time, but they don’t get murdered for their efforts. How about you? Is cynicism overwhelming your enjoyment of the cricket? 2007 world cup, bob woolmer, cynicism, india, ireland, mahendra dhoni, murder, sri lanka, west

West Indies sail through despite lackluster performance
World cup hosts West Indies qualified the super eight stage with a lacklustre performance over Zimbabwe. This victory was far from the brilliance they showed against Pakistan. With the match swinging from one side to another finally came to the hosts. The match started with Zimbabwe batting first and starting with a few hiccups. The opening batsman gave in early. The score read 2-2. Soon, it was to be 59-4. The side could have easily collapsed, but thanks to a lackluster bowling by the West Indian bowlers and a fight back by the two new comers Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams, the score reached to a respectable total of 202-5. The youngsters showed the confidence not to be mowed down. Though, the Indies bowlers too contributed with a few extras. Chasing a modest total, the West Indian innings began with a cautious start. Openers Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul batted very slowly together, but built the platform for the win with a first-wicket stand of 73. Chanderpaul was the fi
