In a sharp reversal of its longstanding accusations against Iran arming militants in Iraq , the US military has made an unprecedented albeit quiet confession: the weapons they had recently found in Iraq were not made in Iran at all. According to a report by the LA Times correspondent Tina Susman in Baghdad: "A plan to show some alleged Iranian-supplied explosives to journalists last week in

Great post today from Bob Owens of Confederate Yankee:
Starting over a year ago with the discovery of a new kind of roadside bomb—EFPs or explosively-formed projectiles—American commanders in Iraq began believing that Iran was supplying weapons to militants in Iraq. That belief grew as more munitions were captured, including 34 unfired rockets captured on July [...]
American politicians may want to "obliterate Iran," but I'm more worried about Pakistan and India fronting like they want to obliterate each other:
Pakistan said it test-fired a short-range cruise missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead Thursday, one day after archrival India test-fired a long-range missile with nuclear capability.
The 220-mile-range Pakistani missile, known as the Ra'ad or Hatf VIII, was developed exclusively for launch from aircraft, a military statement said.
The statement did not disclose the launch site but said the missile "has special stealth capabilities," and is a "low altitude, terrain-following missile with high maneuverability."
The missile "can deliver all types of warheads with great accuracy," the military said.
Pakistan became a declared nuclear powe
Apparently, restrictions have been abandoned and more images that capture the aftermath of the first use of a nuclear weapon are now available to the public. I loathe such restrictions that prevent the public from experiencing and viewing significant events especially given the circumstances surrounding these images. These images should not be mere chattels or personal property of one person but should be common property to benefit humankind. These images capture the magnitude of many major events converging onto one point in history. These events include the beginning of the end of the Second World War, the first detonation of a nuclear weapon against an enemy, the beginning of the Cold War and nuclear proliferation. Certainly more significant events converged or can be derived from th
Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, who was among the original experts to question Bush Administration claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, now says he believes an attack on Iran is a "virtual guarantee." "We take a look at the military buildup, we take a look at the rhetoric, we take a look at the diplomatic posturing, and I would say that it's a virtual guarantee that there will be a limited aerial strike against Iran in the not-so-near future—or not-so-distant future, that focuses on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Command," Ritter said last week in a little-noted interview with Amy Goodman's Democracy Now. "And if this situation spins further out of control, you would see these aerial strikes expanding to include Iran's nuclear infrastructure and some si

After more than 30 years of civil war, ending in 1998, the Cambodian government has collected and destroyed more than 160,000 weapons across the country. In the name of peace some of those weapons were donated to the PAPC. The PAPC (Peace Art Project Cambodia) is a project that was created in November of 2003 by British artist Sasha Constable and Neil Wilford, small weapons specialist with the European Union. In the name of peace the weapons were recycled (sculpted, forged or welded) into amazing works of art such as: chairs, tables, bikes, animals and various other sculptures by student artists from the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. Isn't there something twisted about sitting on furniture made of guns? Or making art out of AK-47's? What do you think?Personally I'd like to

MOSCOW, Russia — Russia closed down a plutonium producing reactor Sunday, marking a major milestone in U.S. nuclear nonproliferation efforts, a Russian news agency reported. The U.S. and Russia have been working for years on arrangements to close Russia's three remaining weapons-grade plutonium producing reactors. A second reactor, also in the Siberian town of Seversk, is expected to be shut down in June, the ITAR-TASS news agency quoted a Siberian Chemicals Plant official as saying. The reactor closed Sunday was temporarily deactivated in an unscheduled incident earlier this month. Plant officials, who were not immediately available Sunday to confirm the report, have said the stoppage was caused by a power failure and that no

Aldermaston is not something that belongs to the past – it produces Britain's weapons of mass destruction today, and will continue to do so into the future, unless we are effective in our opposition. In 2002, the private consortium that manages AWE Aldermaston published a plan to redevelop and build new facilities at the site. The building work is now well advanced, and the developments are on the scale of Heathrow's Terminal Five. They are estimated to cost in the region of £5 billion and they will also result in the employment of more than 1,000 additional staff. Recruitment has already begun. But what are these developments for? We believe that they are for the development and production of a new generation of nuclear weapons. It is just not credible that the scale of redeve

Almost 1,500 flights landed at Irish airports last year carrying weapons, munitions, explosives and other dangerous goods on board. Most of them are believed to have been destined for US military forces and to have passed through Shannon airport along with hundreds of thousands of US soldiers on their way to Iraq. The Department of Transport told the Irish Independent it never received a request for permission to land carrying depleted uranium ammunition. Anti-war campaigners claim that planes carrying the ammunition, which is used as an anti-armour weapon had passed through Shannon. The new figures, were revealed yesterday by the Department of Transport after media queries amid fears that an emergency landing at Shannon on Friday involved an old DC-8 cargo plane that was suspec

Gaming site Game|Life reports that weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company will be up for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace. This comes straight from a screenshot produced from the recently released beta. The in-game “unlocks” menu lists a variety of weapons, some of which read “buy this weapon on Xbox Live Marketplace” when highlighted. The inclusion of microtransactions in EA games has become quite a worrying trend, having players buy the weapons instead of earning them through playing the game. Battlefield Heroes, an upcoming free-to-play multiplayer shooter, will also include microtransactions in a bid to support its free structure.
~Snooper~That is pretty much what Chris Hill said on our BTR show the other night on the Gathering of Eagles 1-year show. ...Great article from the NY Post:Pride and a fear that hitters were starting to catch up to him the second half of last season has resulted in a new-look Wagner this spring. The veteran stopper has broken out a curveball and a change-up to go along with his fastball, slider and intense determination to make up for 2007. "The expectations are high around here, as they should be, and I want to be right there when we're living up to them," Wagner said. "It was kind of a helpless feeling for me [at the end of last year]. I don't want that to happen again." Wagner said he remembers, all too well, the final two months of last season, when back spasms and a suddenly hittable fastball doomed what was shaping up as one of the best years of his career. If so, you might not be aware that you may be suffering from arthritis. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to achieve relief from the pain and stiffness, which we explain below. Glucosomine : this is a natural substance that can ease the swelling caused by arthritis, and has been found to be effective in clinical studies. The ease in swelling will lead to less pain and stiffness. You can find glucosomine at your local drug store or you can order it over the internet. Most physicians feel that it is safe and effective, but consult your doctor before you start taking this or any other supplement. It

nassau, Bahamas:
If all goes as planned, there could be an initiative in place that would give Americans the authority to search Bahamian-registered vessels suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction.
According to U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas Ned Siegel, the government is in the process of finalizing a Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI).
"We all know and read that keeping commercial air travelers safe is a high priority and we will continue to work with the security at the airports and seaports to make sure that the Bahamian authorities that are working those transit points are strengthened," he said.
"This initiative gives us the ability - with protocol - to board Bahamian registered ships around the world [where there is] information or intelligence [to suggest] that there may be weapons of mass destruction or materials to prevent them from even getting to port."

They charge that liberals and the left are flip-floppers who change their views on an issue based on what's popular. Well, sometimes they do, but sometimes changing your views is warranted when it turns out you were wrong all along.Today we learned that Iran perhaps isn't as great a threat as the President had let us to believe. Are we supposed to be shocked? He insists they're still dangerous and still wants nukes, but his insinuations are just plain assumptions at this point. It is dangerous and counterproductive to make allegations based on assumptions. It destroys our credibility as a nation, not that we have any credibility anymore. We were wrong on Iraq, we were wrong on Iran. We are 0 and 2 in that region as of now.Only six weeks ago, this President was invoking World War III, all the while his administration, and perhaps even the President himself. knew there was no immediate risk from that country. A new U.S. intelligence report concludes that Iran’s nuclear weapons development program has been halted since the fall of 2003 because of international pressure.
The finding is part of a National Intelligence Estimate on Iran that also cautions that Tehran continues to enrich uranium and still could develop a bomb between 2010 and 2015 if it decided to do so.
The conclusion that Iran’s weapons program was still frozen, through at least mid-2007, represents a sharp turnaround from the previous intelligence assessment in 2005. Then, U.S. intelligence agencies believed Tehran was determined to develop a nuclear weapons capability and was continuing its weapons development program. The new report concludes that Iran’s decisions are rational and pragmatic, and that Tehran is more susceptible to diplomatic and financial pressure than previously thought.
Some of the changes in the new report reflect the use of “open source” intelligence—public information from

Whilst their first LP, ‘Songs for my Funeral’, was full of hip hop and beat influences, the second, ‘The Garden’, revealed Nostalgia 77’s mastermind (Ben Lamdin) serious intentions as a jazz musician, composer and arranger. ‘Weapons of Jazz Destruction’ takes things further in this direction. Where ‘The Garden’ featured a willfully rough and ready recording style with nods to afrofunk and soul including the attention grabbing cover of “Seven Nation Army” with Alice Russell, this latest album is a much smoother and more polished production and sits firmly in the jazz arena. The Fender Rhodes has been replaced throughout by piano giving the whole record a more classic sound and, as always, the horn arrangements are outstanding. The overall feeling is melancholic, bringing in Ethiopian modal jazz influences into tracks like “Musical Silt”, and Spanish melodies in the opening track “Chola”. This uniqu

UN nuclear chief attacks hostile US claims on Iran
[ UN atomic watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Sunday he had no evidence that Iran is building nuclear weapons and accused US leaders of adding "fuel to the fire" with recent bellicose rhetoric.
"We haven't received any information there is a parallel, ongoing, active nuclear weapon program," the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency told CNN. ]

By: Victor EpandI have read the article about the M-468. I believe it is a superior firearm in terms of ease of integration into the US military inventory. Those of you who read history in terms of US military small arms may remember that General Douglas McArthur wanted a rifle that would shoot the 30.06 since the US had millions of crates of it in storage. That is how Garand won the contract with the M-1 since his rifle did chamber the 30.06 round while the contenders were using other type rounds. This sounds like a great replacement for the M-16 and the sole consideration in selecting the replacement should be what is best for the troops and not what is best for the bean counters. If this increased stopping power saves one American life what value do we place on that life if we stay with the 5.56 mm and lose that life so it fits into some neat budget of someone who will not be in harms way. I hope the armed services accept the M-468 as the primary weapon. Shoot to wound is the most st

By: Victor EpandSoviet battle equipment seems to be popping up all over the world, but by far the most concerning of USSR hardware, is the Short range SCUD missile and the SA-8 platform. What are the ranges of the weapons and what others types are there, this can include Warsaw pact and post-WSP weapons. How? Is it even possible for someone be able to obtain a compatible warhead or weapon and activate it with a ranged missile asset Directly from Russia or its military? The SS-1c SCUD is a single-stage, short-range tactical ballistic missile, using storable liquid propellants. It is transported, and fired from a TEL based on a MAZ-543 wheeled (8 x 8) chassis. The SCUD was designed for targets such as marshaling areas, major storage dumps, and airfields. The SCUD, which has a maximum range of 300 km, has been deployed in three variants: (S-1b) SCUD A, (SS-1c) SCUD B, and SCUD D. The primary difference between each of these variants is their guidance system and resulting CEP. The SCUD A an
Being an editor at a video game site certainly does have its advantages. We get to travel all over the world to visit studios, collect the free games that are sent our way, and interact with our readers, who are some of the most knowledgeable gamers out there (and there are definitely times when they know more than us). While all of those things are well and good, the best part of our jobs is the ability to check out games before just about anyone else in the world. Not surprisingly, just about every editor that attended last week’s Halo 3 event in San Francisco was excited beyond belief to finally get a chance to play the most anticipated Xbox 360 game of all time (well, except for Brent, that is).
After playing the game all weekend, I’m finally beginning to feel comfortable with the controls and the gameplay. Ultimately, the toughest thing to get used to is the new stable of weapons. While many of them appeared in the previous games, it feels as though they’ve been tweaked and

Michele Cossey, who is 46-years-old, has been charged with buying her 14-year-old son three weapons, which included a .22 caliber rifle, .22 caliber handgun and a 9mm semi-auto rifle, according to authorities. Also, police found knives and explosives in addition to the guns that police believe were going to be used for a possible school attack.
According to Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor Jr. the mother is not being accused of trying to help the boy plot the school attack, “but by virtue of her indulgence, she enabled him to get in this position.” He also said that “this is not the best parenting I’ve ever seen and she needs to be held accountable.”
Police responded to a tip that they received from a student at Whitemarsh High School and his father about what the boy was planning on doing. Police also said that the 14-year-old boy tried to recruit another kid to help with a possible attack on the high school. While searching the boy&rs
