Last evening's tilt between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves had so much good old American baseball flavor that it might as well have been played in Japan. (what? I dunno). Instead, those of us in North America saw the official; unofficial opening night of the 2008 baseball season which took place in our nation's capitol. The fans of D.C. have been brimming with gaiety over the regular season unveiling of their team's new home -- Nationals Park. The time was finally upon them and the young building did not disappoint, as the evening was filled with red, white and blue spirit from start to finish. The capacity crowd showed their support for the new Nats atmosphere and also voiced their displeasure for the current President of our beloved United States, as George W. Bush tossed ou

As a fan in the Washington area, I see there are there a lot of people, and I mean a lot of people, that are not happy online.A good barometer of how fans feel come from wbsites and blogs, and it is almost universal that people in the Washington region give a big thumbs down to the move.It looks like Rays' fans are elated that Dukes is out of their hair; however, a lot of Nationals fans are livid and some outright fearful that he'll do something crazy.I read a lot of blogs, and besides the sordid Michael Vick affair I've not seen this much anger towards an athlete, incident or a transaction in quite a while. As a baseball move, I think the Nationals once again got a another potential boon providing Dukes can progress as a ballplayer and live up to his potential. He's only 23, blessed with great athleticism, and power; thus, if he can lay regularly, he may be an effective, if not very good player. However, he needs to be a lot more selective at the plate and be patient, but the tool
Well, it looks like the Mets' finally got another catcher they needed, and they rid themselves of gifted, but troubled, Lastings Milledge. The Washington Nationals rid themselves of two players who they felt struggled...From ESPN: The New York Mets have dealt outfielder Lastings Milledge to the Washington Nationals for catcher Brian Schneider and outfielder Ryan Church, multiple media outlets reported Friday. The Nationals announced they would hold a news teleconference at 3 p.m. ET to announce a trade.Milledge, in parts of two seasons with the Mets, has a career .257 batting average (90 for 350) with 40 extra-base hits and 51 runs batted in.Church, in 144 games last season, hit .272, one point higher than his career average in four seasons with the Expos-Nationals franchise. Last season, he had 128 hits, including 43 doubles -- tied for the team lead with Ryan Zimmerman -- and 15 home runs, and 70 RBIs.An eight-year veteran, Schneider hit .235 with 21 doubles in 2007. Chicago Cubs vs. Washington Nationals - July 2nd, 2007I was at the Cubs/Nationals game last night, not as a member of the press; alas, as a fan for a change. Tonight, I'll actually be covering the Mystics tonight in downtown Washington D.C.Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy the great photos from last night!
Hello, friends. My name is Ted. Normally I write over at A Price Above Bip Roberts - I'll spare you the hyperlink this time - but on weekends, I write over here. It's an interesting thing (my writing over here), because since Scrap himself checks in with news and notes and the occasional multi-media element (LeBron Etch-a-Sketch!), I don't do much. I basically try to come up with some type of series that can unify content on the site throughout the weekend. Oftentimes, I fail miserably. Sometimes, though, I succeed.I'm pretty sure this weekend ISN'T one of those times, but we'll proceed anyway. See, it's Interleague Play right now; overall the concept could likely be defined as "embraced" by the American populace, but there are detractors (especially when Barry Bonds steps up to the plate in Boston... oh wait, they're booing something else). The point is: some like Interleague, and some don't. We like it, but we also looked at the match-ups this weekend and realized, "Wow, the
Pirates and Nationals - June 5, 2007I went to the game at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington D.C. last night and saw the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Washington Nationals.Anyhow, the Nationals lost 7-6, but it was a perfect night for a ball game!
Padres and Nationals - June 3. 2007I went to the game at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington D.C. this afternoon, and soaked in a game in conditions that we more conducive for football rather than baseball. The San Diego Padres took on the Washington Nationals on this rainy Sunday on the East Coast. It was wild, wet and sloppy, but I hope you like the pictures from today.
Dodgers at Nationals - May 31st, 2007Anyhow, I went to Dodgers/Nationals game in Washington D.C. on Thursday night, and caught the action. MLB (Major League Baseball) and the Washington Nationals have done a first for any major organization sports related or not. They are now offering game tickets via picture message to your mobile phone.
Fans who purchase tickets to Nationals games (home games only) can have their digital ticket sent via MMS to their cell phone saving paper and the need for a “will call” window. Derek Palmer, Tickets.com’s Chief Commercial Officer states: “This technology will contribute to the Nationals’ effort to provide the best fan experience by eliminating the need to carry a paper ticket, or to wait in a will call line to pick up their tickets. With Tickets@Phone™, fans can purchase a ticket and go directly to the admission gate.”
This does look promising, although nothing is said about potential problems like unreadable images, back up plan, etc….the idea is good and could provide a very easy alternative to carrying your ballgame tickets.

The forthcoming home of the Washington Nationals -- to open in 2008 -- is coming along just fine. It has been reported that the new ballpark will have cherry blossoms scattered behind left field in coordinance with one of DC's landscape trademarks. A grove of cherry blossoms behind the left field bleachers is one of the latest additions to the plans of the ever evolving Washington Nationals ballpark. Team president Stan Kasten says construction of the 41,000-seat stadium remains on schedule for completion by opening day next year. Also, a new video has been released which pans the new park in graphical detail to show off the various views and "Presidential Suites."Related:New Look At New Stadium
Two words: Manny Acta. These two words could mean the difference between a decent season or being the laughing stock of Major League Baseball. Manny is a stathead, a new school moneyball guy who has been tasked...
Hope springs eternal for every team before the first game of each and every team before a season, and some teams know they are contenders and some do not. Sadly, for the Washington Nationals, most experts and pundits believe they will not be contenders at all in the National League and perhaps will lose 100 games or more. However, even though the Nationals are rebuilding their organization for the future, the team has potential All-Stars like Ryan Zimmerman & Chad Cordero emerging as the cornerstone of the franchise. With the exception of a few players, 2007 will be a year for many to show they belong on a major league club. 2006 was a year which saw ground break on the team's new home in 2008, the release of Frank Robinson as manager, to the hiring of former Mets' coach Manny Acta, the upcoming 2007 season will determine the road that the Nationals are on for the years ahead. The team lost superstar player Alfonso Soriano & the team was widely criticized for not trading him,
We attended the second game of this three game series and ended up having a great time despite not having our favorite seats. So, the Marlins won, Dan Uggla busted out of his slump, Mike Jacobs continued to tear through the ball, and afterwards we got to hang out with ...
