Shane Warne, Captain of Rajasthan Royals of IPL have offered his services to mentor the country’s spin bowlers but the Cricket Board feels it’s too early to give a thought to the leg spin legend’s proposal.

Another Shane Warne folk lore! Einstein won’t mind if I borrow a line and say cricket generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth. I’m dying to know what Warne had told Rajasthan Royal teammates in his first address before the IPL started. It must be cricket’s equivalent of Winston Churchill’s “Blood, toil, tears, and swe
Sohail Tanveer is full of praise for the captain Shane Warne. The Rajasthan royals paceman who is the highest wicket taker in the IPL so far has praised his captain for getting the best out of all players. The paceman also said that Warne was very clever in captaincy and always set up attacking fields as well. He also said that it was fascinating to play under his captaincy.
There is a difference in the way the Rajasthan Royals play their game, compared to the other teams. If all the other teams are “Indian” in their approach, the Royals are “Australian” in theirs, in many ways. To begin with, they have an Australian captain, and the next and more important factor, they have developed [...]

Australian ace spinner Shane Warne is set to retire from first-class cricket after announcing that he won’t be taking up his contract to captain English county side Hampshire this season.
Rose Bowl plc chairman Rod Bransgrove said that Warne's increasing business interests and family life would impact on his availability for the county. Warne, who will be captaining and coaching the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League next month, confirmed the end of his association with the county would bring down the curtain on a glittering first-class career. He said: "My eight years involved with Hampshire have been a wonderful experience. Memories that will last with me forever and likewise the friendships that have been formed at the club."I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rod Bransgrove, Paul Terry and Tim Tremlett for their ongoing support and the opportunity to captain the club, and I wish them all the best for the coming season."Unfortunately I am retiring fr
Muttiah Muralitharan has become the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket after breaking Shane Warne's record of 708 Test wickets. Murali dismissed Paul Collingwood during England's first innings in Kandy to take his 709th wicket. Murali achieved the record in his 116th Test and on his home ground, which had been eagerly awaiting the historic moment over the first two days of the Test. After a difficult tour of Australia, where he managed four wickets in two matches, Murali closed in on the milestone with four wickets during the second day. He drew level with Warne when he had Ravi Bopara caught down the leg side on the second afternoon, but was forced to wait for the crucial wicket through a mixture of rain, which forced the players off on Sunday afternoon, and stubborn English resistance. It took him until his 10th over of the day to squeeze out the cherished scalp as Collingwood and Ryan Sidebottom offered stubborn resistance. Finally, though, in his second spell of the day be bow
AUSTRALIA'S greatest wicket-takers in Test cricket, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, have been honoured with The Don award for providing the most inspirational achievement of the Australian sporting year. Warne and McGrath both retired from Test cricket after the fifth Ashes Test at Sydney Cricket Ground in January, as Australia wrapped up a 5-0 series whitewash over England. Warne, 38, holds the all-time Test wickets record with 708, although that mark is set to be overtaken by Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (700), perhaps as soon as the two-Test series against Australia in November. McGrath, 37, is the most successful paceman in Test cricket history, with 563 wickets, sitting fourth on the all-time list behind Warne, Muralitharan and India's Anil Kumble (566). McGrath remained on the international scene until after Australia's Cricket World Cup triumph in the Caribbean in April. Warne and McGrath received the award last night at the annual Sport Australia
SHANE Warne may still have a role to play in leading English side Hampshire to a possible county championship title after receiving an injury boost. The Australian leg-spinner feared his season was over after scans last week indicated he had a broken rib, but a fresh check on the injury downgraded it to a muscle tear. "Shane had a repeat MRI scan, which indicates a muscle tear adjacent to his rib - which appears to be more consistent with what happened," Hampshire club physio Andrew Nealon was quoted as saying by the Southern Daily Echo. "He is making good progress and will definitely be back playing this season. "He has an outside chance of playing against Worcestershire at Kidderminster next week - and is very confident of appearing against Kent (in the penultimate round of matches on September 11)." SHANE Warne has listed five Australia players in his list of top 10 cricketers - but none in the top three. India batsman Sachin Tendulkar topped the retired star leg spinner's list of the 50 greatest cricketers he played with and against during his illustrious career. Tendulkar pipped West Indies great Brian Lara for the No.1 spot. But, surprisingly, there were no Australia teammates in the top three with former West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose third ahead of Allan Border - Warne's first Test captain - and his fellow former bowling spearhead Glenn McGrath. Warne earlier this week caused a stir when he named Steve Waugh at No.26 on his list - published in The Times newspaper - despite the former Australia skipper often being considered alongside Tendulkar and Lara as one of the three leading batsmen in recent times. On selecting Ambrose at No.3, Warne wrote: "It was very difficult to split Curtly and Glenn McGrath, but I think Curtly had that extra half-
CRICKET'S all-time leading wicket-taker Shane Warne is set to star at the Hong Kong International Sixes tournament later this year, a newspaper has reported. The veteran spinner, who has retired from international cricket, is likely to be joined by another Australia legend, paceman Glenn McGrath, at the six-a-side event, the South China Morning Post said, quoting unnamed sources. The duo will be joined by leading batsmen Virender Sehwag from India and Shahid Afridi from Pakistan, the report added, on an all-star side to compete against nine national teams from across the world. The annual tournament will take place from October 27 to October 28 at the Kowloon Cricket Club, organisers said, without confirming whether the stars would appear. The full line-up will be officially announced next week Agence France-Presse

Australian cricket legend Shane Warne may apply for German citizenship in a bid to avoid filling Hampshire's overseas player spot. The spinner is hopeful that he may qualify for a European Union passport, which would exempt him from being classified as an overseas star, through his mother's side of the family."My Mum was German. She came over to Australia when she was, I think, four or five," the 37-year-old said."With only one overseas [player] next year, it's something we're looking at. There's been some amazing things happen here in England with people to play as locals, and all that sort of stuff, so it's something we're investigating."The rules currently state that the counties can have two overseas players on their books, but the allowance is to be halved by the start of next season as the England and Wales Cricket Board attempts to promote domestic talent.Warne is currently preparing for Ha
Get Your LedAustralian legends Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath could be the latest big names to sign up for the breakaway Indian Cricket League. The veteran bowlers, with 1,271 Test wickets between them, have retired from international cricket but may feature if financial issues are resolved. "They haven't offered what we asked for, so negotiations are proceeding," Warne's manager James Erskine said. The six-team league will comprise Twenty20 matches across India. Warne, 37, who retired from Test cricket after the Ashes, has continued playing county cricket in England but opted to miss Hampshire's Twenty20 campaign. Erskine added: "If terms and conditions are right, he will play. But it's a long way off before we get the contract signed." McGrath, also 37, played in the World Cup in the Caribbean before leaving the international stage. His manager, Warren Craig, confirmed that talks had taken place but that salaries had not been discussed. "They haven't given us any indicati
THE breakaway India Cricket League is looking increasingly desperate as high-profile former players continue to reject its approaches, but people intimate with the organisation warn that it should not be ignored or underestimated. Shane Warne's management has said the Hampshire captain was unlikely to join the rebel Twenty20 competition. The world record-breaking leg spinner, who retired from the Australia Test side this year, was one of the first stars associated with the ICL. Warne was annoyed that ICL chairman and former India captain Kapil Dev announced he was part of the league before a contract had been signed, but he wrote a column in the English press praising the idea. Warne's manager, James Erskine, said yesterday that the cricketer was unlikely to sign. "He's made no decision about what he's going to do," Erskine said. "There's the small thing about grounds not being made available, the Indian players not being available and being threatened wit
SHANE WARNE and Glenn McGrath have already agreed to play in the breakaway Twenty20 league, according to Indian great Kapil Dev. And more Australian players are close to signing, said Dev, chief executive of the Indian Cricket League. "They have signed contracts so that to me means that they have taken the deal," Dev said yesterday. "A few more young boys from Australia will be signed up. I can't give you their names, because contracts are still being negotiated. Maybe they won't be superstars like Warne and McGrath, but they will still be stars." Dev declined to confirm reports that Warne would receive up to $2 million to play in the league for three years or that West Indian star Brian Lara would be paid $500,000 a season. However, he said the new league would be "the most exciting thing" to emerge in world cricket in recent times and would allow players to take advantage of the fact that "78 per cent of the money in world cricket is generated throu
SHANE Warne is reportedly on the verge of joining West Indies great Brian Lara in a multi-million dollar breakaway Twenty20 series in India later this year. Lara, 38, who retired in April as the highest run-scorer in Tests, confirmed he will take part in the Indian Cricket League (ICL) being promoted by the country's largest listed media group, Zee Telefilms. "It gives me great pleasure to join the ICL,'' Lara said in a statement released by the organisers. "I look forward to playing with promising youngsters from India and elsewhere along with some of my illustrious international counterparts who I've shared many an exciting moment with on the field.'' Lara is the first foreign player to be officially confirmed for the ICL, but sources close to the organisers said Australian Warne and a host of other international players were on the verge of signing up. Warne, 37, Test cricket's leading bowler who retired earlier this year, has been linked to the series ever since
SHANE Warne and Glenn McGrath are negotiating to join a multi-million-dollar breakaway Twenty20 tournament in the style of Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket. The managers of both recently retired legends of the game are negotiating with the Indian Cricket League - created by India's biggest media company, Zee Telefilms - to play a month of Twenty20 cricket for each of the next three years. Warne's proposed pay package is believed to be worth up to $2 million. Recently retired West Indies star Brian Lara yesterday became the first major ICL signing on a reported $500,000 a year. Tony Greig, one of the key players who helped Packer create World Series Cricket 30 years ago, is one of the leading ICL officials. The league proposes to field six teams - each featuring four international players, two India stars and eight up-and-comeing players - playing Twenty20 matches across India. The dates and venues for the series, which has not been recognised by t

Warne is one of the all-time leading wicket-takers in international cricket
Hampshire star Dimitri Mascarenhas, who received his first England call-up to the one-day squad this summer, has credited Shane Warne with helping him to finally realise his full potential. The all-rounder was frequently passed over by former England coach Duncan Fletcher, with his only England experience being a brief stint in the Hong Kong Sixes team in November 2004.But under the new regime of Peter Moores, Mascarenhas has been given the chance to impress in the 14-man squad for the Twenty20 internationals against West Indies tomorrow and Friday and push for selection.Warne, who has retired from international cricket, will end his playing career as Hampshire captain and Mascarenhas says the Australian spinner has been one of the key influences as his game has improved over the last few years."I think I have become a better player since he has been at Hampshire and [Warne's] guidance has helped me immea
SHANE Warne had match figures of 11-133 as Hampshire beat Durham by 50 runs in the English county championship first division game at the Rose Bowl overnight.
Hampshire captain Warne took 5-50 as Durham was bowled out for 288 in its second innings, following his first innings 6-83.
The leg spinner's greatest Test wicket-taking rival, Sri Lanka off spinner Muttiah Muralitharn, took 4-72 at Old Trafford, in a match return of 8-145, as Lancashire beat Kent by eight wickets.
The victory leaves Lancashire, fifth, nine points ahead of Hampshire.
Warne finished his Test career with 708 wickets while Murali has 674.
Elsewhere, table-topper Yorkshire and defending champion Sussex played out a draw at Headingley. Sussex, set an unlikely 283 to win in a mimimum of 41 overs on the final day, finished on 2-47.
In the day's other first division match, Warwickshire and neighbour Worcestershire played out a draw at Edgbaston.

SHANE Warne was one of several Australians to star overnight on the second day of the latest round of matches in the English county championship.
Hampshire captain and leg-spin bowler Warne took 4-76 but that wasn't enough to prevent Durham, which bowled out its hosts for 232, taking a first-innings lead with Australian Michael Di Venuto making 124 in a total of 8-264 at the Rose Bowl.
Another Australian in the runs was Lancashire's Brad Hodge.
A member of Australia's World Cup-winning squad in the Caribbean, he scored 156 not out in Lancashire's 5-451 declared against Kent, which also featured 58 from former Australia batsman Stuart Law.
Kent was 14 without loss at stumps.
Elsewhere in the first division, leader Yorkshire was bowled out for 139 in its top-of-the-table match against Sussex at Headingley with Pakistan duo Rana Naved and Mushtaq Ahmed taking three wickets apiece.
Sussex was 40 without loss in reply after a first day washout.

Shane Warne disputed the umpire's decision
Australian bowling legend Shane Warne has been punished for dissent by the English Cricket Board (ECB).
The spinner, who retired from international cricket at the close of England's 5-0 Ashes drubbing earlier this year, was given six penalty points for his behaviour during Hampshire's County Championship match against Kent.
Warne was reported on two separate code of conduct breaches by umpires Tim Robinson and Barrie Leadbetter.
He "showed serious dissent at an umpire's word or action" and used "language or [a] gesture that is obscene or of a serious insulting nature".
The 37-year-old must not collect another three penalty points in the next two years if he wishes to avoid an automatic suspension from the game.
According to media reports the breaches concerned Warne's reaction to his dismissal leg before by Robinson.
Warne, who has trapped hundreds of hapless victims in his career, stood his ground before eventual
SHANE Warne has been punished for disputing an umpire's decision during an English county championship match, the move pushing the leg-spin great nearer a match suspension.
Warne, the captain of Hampshire, has been given six penalty points under the England and Wales Cricket Board discipline code for showing serious dissent at an umpire's decision and using offensive language.
The code violation took place during the second day of Hampshire's first division match against Kent in Canterbury last Thursday.
Warne, 37, initially stood his ground after being given out leg before by umpire Tim Robinson off the bowling of Ryan McLaren.
He looked back angrily at the middle when he did at last begin to walk off the field and, when he reached the pavilion, he made his feelings known in unsavoury fashion within earshot of spectators.
Warne, Test cricket's leading wicket taker, with 708 from 145 matches, retired from international cricket following Australia's 5-0 A
Bill Medley (Ft. Jennifer Warne) - “I’ve had the time of my life”
Now I’ve had the time of my life
No I never felt like this before
Yes I swear it’s the truth
And I owe it all to you
‘Cause I’ve had the time of my life
And I owe it all to you
I’ve been waiting for so long
Now I’ve finally found someone
To stand by me
We saw the writing on the wall
As we felt this magical
Fantasy
Now with passion in our eyes
There’s no way we could disguise it
Secretly
So we take each other’s hand
‘Cause we seem to understand
The urgency
Just remember
You’re the one thing
I can’t get enough of
So I’ll tell you something
This could be love because
I’ve had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it’s the truth
And I owe it all to you
Hey, baby
With my body and soul
I want you more than you’ll ever know
So we’ll just let it go
Don’t be afraid to lose control,
Recently, there have been many criticisms on how the quality of cricket has gone down. That the quality of batting and bowling has dropped because of the flat pitches. And then you have a player like Shane Warne, who recently broke the 700 test wickets barrier. And Shaun Pollock had crossed the elite 400 wickets club just a few weeks before.A few years back, there were only about three or four bowlers who had 400+ wickets in tests. Today, there are 10, with five of them having surpassed 500+ wickets. Batting wise, it took Sachin Tendulkar a long time to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's record of most runs in tests, and now we have five batsmen with 10,000+ runs and two more poised to join the elite club in a couple of years.Yes, I agree the number of matches played in a calendar year has increased significantly nowadays. But with this increase, the expectations have gone high and so has the competitive nature of the game. You no more see a bowler applauding a glorious straight drive from the
England coach Duncan Fletcher said Saturday he would like Shane Warne to cross the great cricket divide and work as a spin doctor for Australia's old Ashes enemy. The champion leg-spinner played his 145th and final Test in Australia's 10-wicket victory over England in the fifth Sydney Test Friday to claim an 86-year-old 5-0 Ashes clean sweep.Fletcher, who faces fall-out over England's performance in the series, is keen for Test cricket's leading wicket-taker to impart his skill, knowledge and experience to England spin bowlers."I'd be happy with him to speak to anyone, there's no doubt about it," Fletcher told reporters here Saturday."Someone of that calibre would be very useful for England to use his experience, at any stage during the (northern) summer or at any stage of a player's career."Not only of a young spinner. Imagine the help he could give to a very, very experienced spinner in the side."Although finished with Test cricket, Warne is committed to playing out the rema
Shane Warne said Monday he would not be averse to helping England recover from their Ashes drubbing, after coach Duncan Fletcher said he would like to enlist the skills of the legendary spinner.Writing in The Times newspaper, the champion leg-spinner said he had no specific plans on his future career after retiring from Test cricket at the end of Australia's 5-0 whitewash of England last week.He admitted that the lure of the commentary box was "very attractive" but would love to stay in the game, preferably helping the Aussies remain at the top of the world game."Beyond that, I also want to make sure that cricket stays healthy worldwide. So I would not have a problem helping in England, New Zealand, South Africa or anywhere else," he added. "We live on a small planet these days."But Warne, who admitted it was "strange" to refer to himself as "Shane Warne, the former Test cricketer", said he had received no specific request from Fletcher or the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
