An enjoyable evening at Union Chapel, which started by bumping into Mel and John at the McD's in Islington. They were in pole position in the window on the special funky chairs.I'd got a business call before we started the main evening, so I was on the phone as we entered Union Chapel just after seven pm and the call lasted another 20 minutes or so, with me mainly on mute. We managed to get some excellent seats (pews) very near to the front, and left some coats whilst we wandered around to the side to grab a Red Stripe before the support act came on. Then back at eight to see (I'm not sure who) who played acoustic guitar, harmonica and sang some of his own songs really well. By this time the Chapel was pretty well full.A short pause and then Kate Walsh took to the stage, with three accompanying musicians comprising a cellist, violinist and an acoustic slide accompanist. Kate played mainly from her 'Tim's House' album, interspersed with a couple of new songs - one in the encore. K

Walsh fell victim to leukemia on July 30, and the tribute featured a host of former 49ers players and staff...several of whom spoke about coach's influence....Jerry Rice, Steve Young and Joe Montana, attended the event. Young described Walsh as a great football strategist who frustrated opponents with his plays on offense. "He helped us climb the mountain to the championship," Young said. "He made us all feel like champions."I'm sure it was a wonderful ceremony, and the nicest gesture came from the mayor who decided to officially rename the playing field in Bill Walsh's honor.One of the loudest cheers came when Mayor Gavin Newsom announced that the football field at Monster Park will now be called Bill Walsh Field. Many of the roughly 8,000 people who attended the service rose to their feet in sustained applause
In a classy move by the San Francisco 49′ers, the team has named the field at Monster Park in honor of former head coach, Bill Walsh. The Hall of Fame coach was honored today in a public ceremony today at the home of the 49′ers, and the announcement was made that the field will now be known as “Bill Walsh Field”. Walsh passed away on July 30th at the age of 75. He was the mind behind the 49′ers Super Bowl runs in the mid to late 80’s, and is credited with creating the now famous “west coast offense.”
In 10 seasons coaching the 9′ers, Walsh was 102-63-1. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton in 1993. “So to Bill Walsh today on Bill Walsh Field, we say that we will always remember, we thank you for the gift of hope and opportunity you restored to this great city,” United States Senator Dianne Feinstein said. “San Francisco, you are a great team and you will see glory days again.”
The public memorial service for Bill Walsh will be held this Friday at Monster Park, and the master of ceremonies will be none other than Chris Berman. That’s right, on Friday Bill “Don’t call me Steve” Walsh could…go…all…the…way…to heaven. He will be back, back, back, back, gone from this earth. You’re with me pine.
All joking aside, Berman does have a very good serious side and he should do a nice job overseeing a somber event such as this. He’s also one of the few currently renowned sports personalities who was actually around during Walsh’s heyday. The ceremony will include and NFL Films video tribute, and former 49ers Joe Montana, Steve Young, Roger Craig, Jerry Rice, and Roger Craig are scheduled to attend. Dan Snyder isn’t involved, and so parking and admission are free.

I watched the news today regarding the passing of Bill Walsh and couldn’t help but feel that if this was John Madden every video game website on the face of earth would be talking about it.
However Bill Walsh, a member of the hall of fame, three time Superbowl champion, and one of the greatest coaches of all time, loses his fight with leukemia at the age of 75 today and I could not find any mention of him on IGN, 1up, or Gamespot.
Was his mid 90’s video game not “hip” enough? It was one of the first games to deal with football on the college level. Call me what you will, but I know for a fact that if this was John Madden this would not have been the case.
