I'm not waiting until I pick up on that telltale hint of fall. Kate Spade handbags tend to sell out and disappear from the marketplace only to show up on the arms of stunningly dressed females that outpaced me in the competition for the latest in stylish purses and wallets.Last year I had my eye on Kate Spade black patent tote handbag except I couldn't find what I had in mind. I either waited too

By Ken McLaughlinMercury NewsArticle Launched: 04/24/2008 02:19:23 AM PDTAt the Asian supermarket 99 Ranch, the price of jasmine rice has already doubled this year. Across the street, Costco is rationing its 50-pound bags of discounted rice - if you can get them at all. And some Asian restaurants are even reconsidering their longstanding policy of refilling rice bowls for free. The worldwide rice shortage has come to Silicon Valley."There is no rice," said Rita Patel of San Jose, a native of India who couldn't find any at Costco on Hostetter Road in northeast San Jose on Tuesday night. In a valley where nearly 30 percent of residents are of Asian descent, people are increasingly frustrated by the soaring cost of the staple of Asian cuisine. Economists blame the price increases on everything
Slim Down, Back Up, and Organize Your Wallet [Wallets] If that big ol' bump on your butt is giving you back problems, it's time to reorganize your wallet. Real Simple magazine offers a few strategies for doing just that, like this tip for making your train pass or company ID readily accessible in a purse or bag: Slip them in a clear plastic sleeve tied with a ribbon, a shoelace, or a cord. You'll be able to fish them out of your purse quickly. To buy: Badge sleeves, about $5 for 10 at office-supply stores. As a non-purse carrier myself, I've become a bit obsessive about reducing the wallet pocket bump. Here's what I've done. Remove everything you don't need. First I got myself a Slimmy wallet, which is barebones but super-thin. Then I ditched all the photos, biz cards, extra cre

Politicians will try anything, but they have yet to repeal the laws of supply and demand. That, in the nutshell, is the cause of rising gasoline prices.
That doesn’t mean they’ll not try to distract taxpayers by pointing fingers at Big Oil.

It is a phrase that conservatives say over and over again. It is always true, and it will always be true. The phrase is said so often that it probably loses it’s luster. Last week it was proven true once again. What phrase am I referring to? This one:

The UK’s first large scale pilot of Near Field Communications (NFC is a short-range wireless technology) on mobile phones is being launched today, which will allow a mobile phone handset to be used as a wallet for electronic cash, much like an Oyster card.
For those that don’t live in London the Oyster card is used by London’s public transport system as an alternative travelcard which can be used for period travel or on a pay-as-you go basis. This use really highlights the real potential of the new phone and technology.
NFC allows secure communication between electronic devices at a short-range, and is set to pave the way for people to use their phones to pay for purchases, access to events and public transport by simply swiping their phone across a reader. Watch the video for more information.
The six month pilot by O2 will involve over 500 participants. In the trial users will be able to:

It's now 10 PM Eastern. Remember the challenge I posted about over the weekend? Well we are two hours away from the start of the November 20th Blitz! While the unofficial goal is still 1 Million the Official Campaign in a very smart move has set the goal to eclips the October goal by tomorrow at Midnight. the October goal, if you remember was $1,034,487 in online donations. We eclipsed that in 31 days last month. The campaign wants to eclipse that in 20 days this month! The current online total (and it keeps growing by the minute today) is $808,379.72. Again we are two hours away from the dams bursting open. Let's see how far we can get!I can't afford to donate tomorrow but there's a great new feature on the Huckabee site. The formed the Huckabee Rangers tonight. Each member who signs up is encouraged to raise at least $100. I would like to raise at least $100 by tomorrow. Would you please help me? $1.59 was the price per gallon of gasoline back in 1970s. This year however, this precious liquid approached and quickly surpassed the $3 per-gal mark.
What causes gasoline prices to soar? There are multiple reasons for that. Typically, rising costs are common for the summer, because a lot of people are going on vacation and more driving is involved. Holidays, such as Thanksgiving are also a precondition for a higher demand and respectively higher price. Major disasters, such as hurricanes can also be “helpful” (for example, when hurricane Katrina hit, refineries went out of order, causing a spike in prices due to higher demand and lower supply). The cost of crude oil, refinery processing costs, marketing and distribution costs, and taxes are directly reflecting on what the consumers pay at the pump. Some states such as California and Chicago require clean-burning fuel which can only be supplied from certain refineries, once again resulting in elevated prices.

The Associated PressSAN MIGUEL, Philippines: It's Thursday, so 18-year-old Dennis Tiangco is off to a bank to collect his weekly allowance, zapped by his mother — who's working in Hong Kong — to his electronic wallet: his cell phone.Sauntering into a branch of GM Bank in the town of San Miguel, Dennis fills out a form, sends a text message via his phone to a bank line dedicated to the service. In a matter of seconds, the transaction is approved and the teller gives him 2,500 pesos (US$54), minus a 1 percent fee. He doesn't need a bank account to retrieve the money.More than 5.5 million Filipinos now use their cell phones as virtual wallets, making the Philippines a leader among developing nations in providing financial transactions over mobile networks.Mobile banking services, which are also catching on in Kenya and South Africa, enable people who don't have bank accounts to transfer money easily, quickly and safely. It's spreading in the developing world because mobile phones
The mid-summer classic spanned four days in San Francisco, CA showcasing Major League Baseball and it's brightest stars. The hustle and bustle that took place in and around the ballpark this past week led to the collective sound of cash registers on tilt as frenzied patrons were 'makin' it rain' on various vendors around AT&T Park. The baseball-crazed hordes on hand for All-Star week, which began Friday, will pump some $60 million to $65 million into the local economy according to a ballpark estimate from the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau. San Francisco hotels, restaurants, stores and taxis will probably get the lion's (or the Giants') share. That's a lot of damn cash. But I guess that total is really not hard to achieve when some parking was charged at upwards of $50. There's not a 'pockabook' in the world I would open up to shell out that kind of scratch for a parking spot. I'll just ride a canoe there like the other forward-thinking fans did -- complete with

The world's biggest handset maker Nokia and mobile telecoms carriers have recently agreed on a global initiative to turn cell phones into wallets. Consumers will be able to use a phone as a wallet or as an access card simply by waving it over a wireless reader--and in some cases punching a personal-identification number, or PIN, into the phone. Cingular Wireless cardholders in New York City already are testing the service that allows them to make purchases with their cell phones early this year. Consumers in South Korea and Japan have already been using cell phones to pay for things. Infact Cell phones are already widely used as electronic wallets in Japan, where more than 12.6 million consumers already have their credit cards embedded in a chip in cell phones.Mifare -- developed by NXP, which was formerly known as Philips (PHG.AS) Semiconductors -- and Felica developed by Sony are two of the most widely used formats used for access cards for buildings and public transport as well as
Men don’t appreciate purses - either in function or style. This ongoing debate between the sexes at my house has been waging for years. Purses are superfluous, silly, a waste of shoulder space, too heavy, too expensive, too big, too trendy - basically all the things we women love about them. The wallet reigns supreme. [...]

Simon Carter Designer Wallets We’re familiar with Simon Carter’s reputation of being the “King of Cufflinks” His designer ties are starting to populate more and more stores and then there’s his casual wear. But have you seen his wallets? Now lets face it, there’s only so much one can do to design a wallet that truly differs. Paul Smith wallets have bright stripes, others with photos of mini minors embossed. Richard James uses bright colours on the inside of his wallets as do many other designers, pretty ordinary “Simon Carter take centre stage” he bought the rights of a cartoon strip, transferred to fabric using digital print and then used the brightly coloured material to line his jeans wallets. This is what I call smart design and they’re functional too, lightweight, they slip in and out of small pockets easily.
A legislative scheme is gaining steam in Washington, greatly aided bylobbyists for Archer Daniels Midland, to "make it easier" for Cuba to"buy" from U.S. vendors. Despite all the scribbling and gabble aboutthe "U.S. embargo of Cuba," or "Blockade" as termed by TheCongressional Black Caucus and Castro lobbyists (but I repeat myself),the U.S. has done over a billion dollars worth of business with Cubathe last few years and currently ranks as her biggest food supplierand fifth biggest import partner. Much of this business is with ADM.Nevertheless, ADM executives and Castro lobbyists (but I repeatmyself) whine that restrictions on doing business with Cuba are "tooonerous." These "restrictions" stipulate one thing primarily: thatthe Castroites pay cash for U.S. imports. Well, as Strother Martinasked Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid as they descended thatBolivian hill: "Do you wanna know why?"Glad you asked. Ready For Windows Vista And Office 2007?
We use Windows and Office at home and at work. We have different flavors of Windows and Office both at home and at work. We have been running computers with Windows 2000 at home as well as XP with no problems whatsoever. It is only a matter of time before updates, fixes and other support will be discontinued. Microsoft does have a large userbase.
We have to decide if we are going to shell out money for Vista and/or the next version of office. Money we would prefer to use for different things. I am sure employers are contemplating the same. Just have to wait and see...

For some reason, I have a sudden desire to buy a tan-coloured leather wallet. I have a couple of wallets at home and all of them are in good condition and everything but I suddenly feel like I need a 'grown-up' wallet. Not one of those 'trendy' wallets, but the ones that, in my imagination, a successful, beautiful woman would take out of her bag to pay for a coffee at Starbucks in the morning before heading to work. It will be a high quality wallet, genuine leather. I know it sounds disgusting that I'm using animal skin as an accessory, but leather comes from bulls, which are killed for their meat anyways, so making use of the animal and using their skin wouldn't be cruel like using fur, because with fur, the animal is killed for the sole purpose of its skin.I've always wondered one thing about guys. Whereas girls have lots and lots of wallets, guys buy one wallet, always black leather, and that's the only one they'll ever get. My dad uses a black leather wallet and all the gu
