Celebrity foreclosures aren't really anything new. But the tone of this particular announcement does seem to be different and in tune with what is happening in the real estate market across the country. Calling a foreclosure a "mathematical decision" and "not a difficult issue emotionally" doesn't really set the kind of example desired by the struggling mortgage industry.

This from the Courier-Journal:Defining Fatherhood An adulterous relationship that leads to pregnancy and a child is a deplorable situation that will lead to troubling results. It also apparently is a pathway to twisted legal reasoning. To wit, Kentucky's Supreme Court has ruled 4-3 that a man who fathers a baby during an affair with a married woman has no legal claim to fatherhood. Instead, the court said, the woman's husband is the legal male parent.Justice Bill Cunningham, who wrote one of the majority opinions, made clear that a key concern was to defend the status of marriage. But that is a social policy goal. What about the legal interests of the child? The majority's view would have made more sense in an earlier time, when paternity was hard to determine. However, DNA testing now allow

Great article from the Washington Post Writers Group -
The government and the lending industry are taking aim at “walk-away” home owners who stop making payments and months later send the house keys back to their lender.

From the MailTribune:Garbage bags, children's toys, lawn care equipment and beer bottles are strewn about this east Medford house, valued at $453,000.Inside there's a piano; outside, there's a swimming pool filled with murky green water. There's so much junk the city has posted notice that the accumulation is unlawful. But there's no one home to clean it up. Unable to make mortgage payments, the homeowners walked away.As the nation's subprime mortgage crisis comes to a head, more houses are being abandoned in Medford, real estate agents and city officials say. Foreclosures have skyrocketed, and more than 750 Jackson County property owners defaulted on mortgage payments in 2007.Dave Myers, an agent with John L. Scott Real Estate in Medford, is marketing the abandoned east Medford house, but

A major consequence of the complexity of today's mortgage business is the difficulty borrowers are having to renegotiate loans, in large part because it's not easy determining exactly who owns the mortgage, but also because loan servicers don't have the power to change loan terms. From a CNNMoney.com story:...it's much harder for troubled borrowers to get a deal that permanently lowers their mortgage payments. The Hope Now Alliance of mortgage lenders and servicers, including Citigroup (C, Fortune 500), Bank of America (BOA) and J.P. Morgan (JPM, Fortune 500), says it has kept over one million borrowers out of foreclosure since July. But only about one quarter of them - 278,000 - have actually had the terms of their mortgages modified.Faith Schwartz, Hope Now's Executive Director, says th

A good number of my readers have written to me lately wanting to know why a woman would walk away from a relationship. I hope that some of them will have a chance to read this. First It is mostly about personal space. Some men sit or talk to women at a distance too close that they make a woman feel physically uncomfortable. Do not rub your thigh against the thigh of a woman

The Forthcoming “Jingle Mail” Tsunami: 10-15 Million Households to Walk Away from Homes/Mortgages Leading to a Systemic Banking Crisis by Nouriel Roubini - snip:The current housing recession, subprime meltdown and severe credit crunch in financial markets has many worrisome aspects. And while there is always a “crisis de jeur” - one day SIVs, the next day monolines, the next day TOBs or auction-rate securities - one needs to keep some perspective and consider which risks are first-order sources of stress for financial markets and which ones are of second or third-order concern. I will argue that the most important first-order risk for financial markets derives from the likelihood that 10 million to 15 million households may walk away from their homes if – as likely - home prices
Bleak economic reports signal recession by Reuters - snip:A series of bleak economic reports on Friday showed the mood of American consumers deteriorating in February to a point that has always signaled recession, while factory activity in New York state suffered its biggest drop on record. Compounding worries about a downturn, data suggested bubbling price pressures, raising the possibility of a troublesome scenario of simultaneously slowing growth and rising inflation -- "stagflation." "This is just horrible. The sustained volatility in the markets, the rise in energy and food prices and, of course, the catastrophe in the housing market is making consumers extraordinarily miserable," said Ian Shepherdson, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics in Valhalla, New York...Big deals
The Simple Dollar » Why I’ve Decided To Abandon (Virtually All) Ads On The Simple Dollar
Trent, over at The Simple Dollar has taken an extremely bold step for a blogger; He’s discontinued AdSense on his web site. For a blogger, that’s akin to taking a chainsaw to an extremity. And for Trent and TSD, probably moreso than most run-of-the-mill blogs.
AdSense - is an ad serving program run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image and, more recently, video advertisements on their sites. These ads are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-thousand-impressions basis.
From Wikipedia - AdSense
With a subscriber base of over 21,000 he’s got quite a bit of remaining revenue and clickthroughs to support his writing, but still it’s been estimated in various discussion forums I troll around in that he’s losing on the range of $3000/month in ad revenue.
That’s no small number
On my current 5 unit real estate deal, we discovered that the single family home that was a part of the deal had serious structural damage. This is the value that a quality home inspector will bring you. The damage could easy cost $30-40k, and the deal just doesn’t have enough built into it to support that kind of a campaign.
Now, the 1 bedroom apartments that are next door have been locked by the contract. Because of one water meter servicing the 1 bedroom duplex and the single family home, the seller can’t really sell them separately. So since we are still in the option period on this contract, we will have to drop those 3 units. Now, what I will likely be proposing to the seller, is to provide us with a separate water meter, and we will proceed with buying the duplex.
The key take away from this article is that you must not get emotional when dealing in real estate (really any kind of business for that matter). Getting emotional will get you burned. The house is too far
Walk Away by Kelly Clarkson, Music Video and Lyrics
Kelly Clarkson proves that “American Idol” can launch the career of someone with mega-talent. This pop hit “Walk Away” is on the top 20 charts and has everything you’d want in a rock hit. Good beat, great lyrics and the husky soprano, smokey singing of Kelly Clarkson. [...]
And introducing our new Tuesday Tips logo, created just for us by Lisa’s talented daughter, Allison. Thank you, Allison!!
As a father of five children, I’ve had ample opportunity to encourage my kids in the exercise of self-control. I can’t be everywhere, and my wife (who homeschools all five) is often tired of being ‘in charge’ when I get home from work.
Over the years we discovered that many problems facing parents are the result of letting things get out of hand rather than addressing them early. As we have shared before in other Tuesday Tips we are strong believers in the idea that training (particularly in moments of NON-conflict) is key to effective parenting.
“Come closer so I can lick you, Daddy.”
When our kids were little, they all learned that we ‘meant business’ about playing with electrical sockets. We had a carbon monoxide detector in the kitchen that beckoned strongly to little eyes and minds with its intriguing r
I do hope that humanity will eventually perceive religion for what it is (i.e., irrational belief that causes great harm), but I am not naive enough to think I'll live to see this happen. Instead, I expect the influence of religion to gradually decline. This decline will be far from linear, as periodic religious revivals are to be anticipated. Still, I cannot help celebrating each indicator of such a decline.A recent survey by LifeWay Research, a branch of the Southern Baptist Convention, shows that Protestant churches in America are losing increasing numbers of young adult congregants. According to USA Today,Seven in 10 Protestants ages 18 to 30 — both evangelical and mainline — who went to church regularly in high school said they quit attending by age 23, according to the survey by LifeWay Research. And 34% of those said they had not returned, even sporadically, by age 30. That means about one in four Protestant young people have left the church. What makes this particular surve
Controversial financial advisor, Jim Cramer, suggests that if your home has depreciated to the point you no longer have an equity position, that you should walk away from the home and its payments. Don’t believe me, here’s the clip!
While this may make sense from a purely “see a home as a commodity” point of view, I feel this fails to take into account the utility and lifestyle. that a home provides to the owners. But hey, I’ve a vested interest buying and selling homes.
What are you thoughts on today’s real estate market and what Cramer is advocating?

Curtis Martin, running back for the New York Jets, has the notion that he can retire on his own terms which is, I suppose, noble assuming that you are retiting at the top of your game (good example - Jim Brown). For the good part of a decade, he was the fuel for the Jets and put up some very good stats during that period of time.
However, the idea that Martin wants to retire on his own terms has some holes in it. The first issue is the insurance policy that Martin held with Lloyd’s Of London. The policy states that the policy only pays him off if he suffers a career-ending injury that was caused by a “one-time” incident on the football field. It also states that degenerative conditions (osteoarthritis and other related health problems) are excluded from this provision. It is unclear at this time what the extent of the injury (I think it was an existing health condition) is or how it happened; this is where the plot gets interesting.

The Lion in Love(Illus by Harrison Weir, John Tenniel, Ernest Griset)A Lion once fell in love with a beautiful maiden and proposedmarriage to her parents. The old people did not know what tosay. They did not like to give their daughter to the Lion, yetthey did not wish to enrage the King of Beasts. At last thefather said: "We feel highly honoured by your Majesty'sproposal, but you see our daughter is a tender young thing, and we fear that in the vehemence of your affection you mightpossibly do her some injury. Might I venture to suggest thatyour Majesty should have your claws removed, and yourteeth extracted, then we would gladly consider your proposalagain." The Lion was so much in love that he had his clawstrimmed and his big teeth taken out. But when he came againto the parents of the young girl they simply laughed in hisface, and bade him do his worst.Moral:Love can tame the wildest.Misfortune awaits those who love unwisely.Kidding me:Parents-in-law are the cunniest creatures o

It's a media truism: when the principles are tight-lipped about a big story, speculate away! Case in point: The UK's Observer quotes unnamed inside sources who say Ford and General Motors have threatened to "leave Detroit and take their car manufacturing operations overseas" if unions "don't agree to a massive pay cut for hourly paid workers." First, why would GM and Ford spend hundreds of millions on relocation expenses just to make a point to the UAW? Second, no one expects a massive pay cut for the union's hourly workers. Third, Ford and GM have already moved large chunks of their car manufacturing operations overseas. To suggest that Ford and GM could/would go nuclear-- shutting down mission critical U.S. operations in response to union intransigence-- is just plain silly (even for a New York City-based reporter). Building on this imaginary doomsday scenario, BloggingStocks goes one step further. They postulate that the UAW will strike if they can
