      CVS & Walgreens
Today’s CVS and Walgreens trip was stressful. I was determined to use the $5 off $20 but my Walgreens was out of many things I wanted and then the CVS store was out of everything I wanted so I had to go to a different CVS. In the end it all worked out and [...]

Fox 5's Arnold Diaz exposes heartless Walgreens manager in Bayonne
Arnold Diaz's "Shame, Shame, Shame" segments on Fox 5 are great. He really does a great job of exposing crazy behavior in people. Yet of all of his segments, this one has to be the most bizarre in ages.Meet Chris Morgan, the manager of a Bayonne Walgreens. When an elderly woman went into diabetic shock while shopping at his store, he didn't exactly go out of his way to help the poor woman (though an off-duty Hudson County Sheriff's Officer and a nurse did). His actions, though not illegal, certainly didn't take into consideration much by way of common sense. I'll just tell you he isn't exactly a model of compassion, based on what I saw in the video. But you judge for yourself.Click this link here to watch the video from Fox 5's Web site.

Upper West Side Update: No Walgreens on Broadway
Back in September I wrote a post Say No to DRUGS store chains, after 4 of my long-time neighborhood mom and pop stores and restaurants were forced out of business to make way for a mega-Walgreens store.I expressed my opinion that another mega drugstore chain was not needed or wanted on the Upper West Side of Manhattan since we already have Duanne Reed on every other block. Since July this is how my once vibrant block looks like now: Boarded up gutted interior with billboards. This is a familiar look throughout Manhattan. Landlords are not renewing leases from small retailers because they prefer to stay empty until a mega national big box chain comes along willing to pay much more for the space. All this time, I thought Walgreens was working on the interiors and they would be opening soon. American Express Gift Card Promotion at Walgreens
American Express is offering gift card promotion at Walgreens! I have two posts about the gift card promotion from American Express (post 1 & post 2). In the December Walgreens Rebate Book, you can find the offer #64 about American Express Gift Card promotion. Buy 2 AMEX gift cards, you can get $10 mail rebate; buy 3 AMEX gift cards, you can get $20 mail rebate. You can click here to see the file. It seems like this: buy 3*$25 AMEX GC=$75+$11.85 (activation fee for $3.95 each)-$75 AMEX card value-$20 rebate check=-$8.15. If you are willing to take your rebate on a Walgreens gift card, they will give you 10% bonus ($22 value). Again, where can we use those $25 AMEX GCs? My top choice is gas station. In this way, you don’t have to remember the balance on each card. Of course, AMEX gift cards are accepted wherever American Express is accepted. Share This

LEGAL BRIEFS: Walgreens Agrees to $20 Million Settlement
In July 2007, the EEOC announced a $20 million proposed consent decree resolving a systemic race discrimination lawsuit against Walgreens, the Illinois-based national drug store chain. The proposed settlement was filed with U.S. District Judge G. Patrick Murphy of the Southern District of Illinois, with a request for his preliminary approval (EEOC v. Walgreen Co., S.D. Il. 07-CV-172-GPM and Tucker v. Walgreen Co., S.D. Il. 05-CV-440-GPM).The EEOC’s suit alleged that Walgreens discriminated against African American retail management and pharmacy employees in promotion, compensation and assignment. In addition to the monetary relief for an estimated 10,000 class members, the consent decree prohibits store assignments based on race. The decree is subject to final approval by Judge Murphy following a fairness hearing.“We commend Walgreens for working cooperatively with us to reach an amicable settlement of this case without protracted litigation,” EEOC Chair Naomi C.
