This is what Sean Penn had to say about Barack Obama’s voting record:
”I don’t have a candidate I’m supporting and I’m certainly interested and excited by the hope that Barack Obama is inspiring,” he said, but went on to accuse him of a “phenomenally inhuman and unconstitutional” voting record.
If Sean Penn really does have an [...]

Thousands of bodies are floating in the waters of Burma, over one million people have been displaced due to the cyclone, planes with aid are parked in the Bangkok airport, and the mad men who rule Myanmar insist on proceeding with a national referendum which will legalize their constitution. FHM has this awesome interactive “Lady Selector” for their Top 100 Sexiest list in which Keeley Hazell helps you narrow down your choices and gives her opinion on who you should vote for. In the process, you can have Keeley made up as a hot American girl next door, as a kinky whip toting British gal, or pretty much whatever else you fancy. You want more boobs, you can get more Keeley boobs. You want more ass, you get more Keeley ass. You want more Keeley legs… well, I think you get the point. Anyway, this is pretty clever on FHM’s part, but honestly, who’s going to vote for anyone other than Keeley after being able to have their way with her for a good half hour! So let me make a prediction: Keeley Hazell wins FHM’s Top 100 Sexiest.
Last year, July 7, 2007, the NEW 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD were announced in Lisbon, Portugal. It's success is now coming to repeat itself with the new set of finalists to be voted upon for the 2008 New 7 Wonders of the World. Weber, the founder of this campaign, aims to be democratic in the selection of the 7 wonders--which in this case, through online voting (i am not sure if there are other means to vote). The Philippines, according to the list of finalists, has two entries--The Tubbataha Reef and The Puerto Princesa Subteranean River National Park. The previous entry ranks 8 as of today's voting while the latter bags the 53rd spot. I, as a Filipino, campaign for these two wonders for they really encompass the truest meaning of the word WONDER.The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National

If the American voters are stupid enough to let this opportunity slip by to elect the right person for the job, then this country will deserve the president it gets. Just like it did in the last two elections.
I remember when i was a kid, i was just starting with electronics, and i was very curious about this kind of systems. They were present in every contest show on tv. It’s cool that someone developed and published a project like this. The system is controlled by an ATmega88, and the voting pads interconnect [...]

Law making, like many things in life, is about compromise. But the problems with which politicians must deal are not always about compromise. Some things are too important and too urgent to be dealt with adequately through endless compromises with other politicians and the public at large. Sometimes, in the course of running a [...]

Sony Entertainment Television is strongly denying the rumours going around that there is some rigging going in Indian Idol voting process. An offical source said, "We have a reputed third party organization which audits the voting process, which is very fair. People are wrongly blaming us for Emon's and Chang's Ouster, You don't vote for the right singer, and then cry about a lesser person coming ahead. Prashant has a sizable number of people in his home area and the police force who are voting en block , so he is winning." The source went on, "Don't the judges (Alisha wanted to walk out ) also complain about audiences voting pattern? Although Emon was a good singer, we alway knew that he will be out, because he did not have required public support."On the question of making the vote figur
As the jungs between contestants in our favourite musical reality shows are growing nearer, we, as the viewers, are clinging onto our seats, in utter anxiousness to see if our winner will come to the end. How can we assure that our favourite will make it to the top? Well, if you've got no mobile or cell phone, you're pretty much out of luck. For years together now, the basis of voting in music shows have been us, the janta. We make the final decision of who wins the title and who doesn't - but is this fair?Tears fall from our eyes when we see our favourite contesants get eliminated from a show and lose their chance of becoming India's next voice. This gives the incentive for viewers to not blame themselves, but rather, the channel. Whose fault is this?Channel heads will blame it on the pub

To tell you the truth, this sounds like a no-brainer to me, the supreme court has ruled that states can require voters to show an ID before they can vote. Megan McArdle and Arnold Kling consider voting behavior by Democrats should their candidate lose the nomination. Megan writes:

We are bound to hear criticism of the Democratic candidate over the fact that the plans either advocates cannot be paid for with the limited tax increases they support. The criticism is valid. As I noted yesterday, even Congressional Democrats realize this.

Obama’s “bitter-gate” comment led to a lot of controversy over very little. Obama gave a brief answer to a complex question at a fund raiser, which the Clinton and McCain camps tried to distort to earn their own political capital. The attempt was to suggest that Obama was insulting voters in small town America, but [...]

I am back from the European Breast Cancer Conference, held in Berlin for 3 days.It is the largest conference about Breast Cancer in Europe and it is the only one which involves all the key players in Breast Cancer. The EBCC-6 is more than 5000 delegates from 90 countries worldwide.I have noticed, once again, that many laboratories used interactivity to attract and engage the visitors. We could see on the stand different alternatives of voting system like touch screens or interactive terminals. We could see, for example on the Abraxis stand, that the visitors were able to respond during the day, at QCM with voting keypads.GlaxoSmithKline Oncology laboratory has also used more than 800 audience response system to involve the participants during their symposium called "Lapatinib in ErbB2 (HER2

Arguments have raged over the decision by local newspapers in London to accept an advertisement from the British National Party last week. Searchlight is more interested in the “wholesome” white family that featured in the ad alongside the slogan “People Like You Voting BNP”. For a start the adults of the family will certainly not be voting BNP in the London elections on 1 May. That’s not because they don’t support the BNP – they do. This is the family of Nick Cass, a longstanding BNP organiser and local election candidate, from that well known London suburb of … West Yorkshire! In this year’s elections he is standing for Kirklees Council as the BNP candidate in Mirfield. In the newspaper ad, Cass is wearing a dark jacket. When he appeared in the Sky TV programme BNP Wi

HSM, a multinational corporation that organises events for its manager training programmes every year, has been using electronic voting systems since 2006 at the ExpoManagement event, which is one of the main management forums of companies based in Spain. At the last forum in Madrid on 23 and 24 May, electronic voting cases were used during the Orange and Daemon Quest conferences. More than 2,500 people overall used the system provided by PowerVote to participate in different subjects that the conference speaker was discussing. According to Maximiliano Massuci, Operations Manager at HSM Europe, this electronic voting system offers great versatility; not only does it make interaction between the audience and the speaker possible, but it also makes it possible to carry out polls and studies
It is less than a month until Londoners decide who is their mayor.I'm still firmly in the Brian Paddick camp.If Boris Johnson becomes mayor on May 1st, the Tories' credibility will be scuppered for ever. There are reports in the papers this weekend that some in the party are concerned about Boris. And quite right too. This is the man who tried to get a journalist beaten up! He's only popular because he knows how to appeal to the terminally stupid, the new audience of Have I Got News For You, who don't want satire but Boris being put down by Paul Merton. I loved the programme pre-2002, and hate to see it as it stands now. (It's back on Friday, if you can bear it.)Boris is like George Bush, not afraid to act stupid. He has a carefully crafted public persona that causes the student culture lover
Interactive voting systems have a wide versatility. Some companies use them to make their events more enjoyable - more like a game for involving participants than a mechanism for obtaining feedback; but there are also companies that see interactive voting as a means for triggering debates that would otherwise be more difficult to generate. This is the case of real estate consultancy CD Richard Ellis Spain, which, for over a year now, has been using the PowerVote system at customer events organised by the company's marketing department. "These are themed real estate seminars at which we sound out client opinions on relevant aspects of the sector," explains Gorka Anitua Valluerca, the consultancy's marketing manager.Read more...
Today is the voting day in Nepal. This is the day that determines the future of Nepal. The three party that are likely to win the majority are Maoist, the Congress and the CPN-UML communist party. Within Kathmandu it is likely that CPN-UML communist party will get the majority and it's outside Kathmandu where the actual war on vote is going on. It has been heard that Maoist are threating the people in the remote village to give them vote. Let's see what happens. I am curious about who will get the majority. It has taken a lot of time, effort and work to conduct this voting. This is an important day in the history of Nepal. This will determine where Nepal will be for the next 20 years or so. I hope that whoever wins will develop Nepal in every aspect.

A common feature of democracy as currently understood and practiced is competitive elections. Competitive elections are usually seen to require freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and some degree of rule of law. Civilian control of the military is often seen as necessary to prevent military dictatorship and interference with political affairs. [...]

There’s been a good bit flying around on the internet pertaining to some documented concerns expressed by the United Church of God Council of Elders on the subject of bloc voting on issues and selection of Council of Elders members. Thiel as well as Ambassador Watch and others put posts up on the topic. From the 3-2-08 Council Meeting ReportMr. Dick presented a historical review of this topic. During the 1998 GCE meetings in Louisville, Kentucky, the Council ran into the only verifiable incidence of attempted bloc voting. A group of elders determined they would vote as a bloc for an agreed-upon group of candidates. It was brought to the Council's attention at that time, and the chairman of the Council and the chairman of the Ethics Committee were instructed by the Council of Elders to tal

As the election for constituency assembly is taking place in Nepal on 10th April, 2008, Nepal and its people are all hoping that this election will lead to a new prosperous and peaceful Nepal. Nepal has gone to various hard phases and now is the time to change the course of the hard path on which it was following. There are many things and innovation being developed and certainly developing countries are the last ones which are able to follow and implement the latest technology. For the first time in the history of Nepal electronic voting machine is going to be used. This electronic voting machine will be used as a trail and it will certainly be a new milestone as the country is lagging in terms of development and the technological advancement. The electronic voting machine will be used in

Brisk voting was underway on Monday for the first ever parliamentary elections in Bhutan, marking the end of the 100-year-old monarchy in the Himalayan kingdom. “The enthusiasm is tremendous with heavy polling recorded so far till midday in all the 20 districts. This is a historic moment for all of us,” said Bhutan's Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi. Elections are being held for the 47-member National Assembly or the lower house in parliament with 318,465 registered voters eligible to exercise their franchise in the largely Buddhist nation of about 600,000 people. Bhutan's first elected prime minister will be from among the National Assembly members. ~ read on... ~

The compromise plan on FISA is coming up for a vote this afternoon. Here’s what the ACLU says about the bill:
We commend the House for refusing to adopt the overreaching FISA Amendments Act, which would have given the executive branch vastly expanded powers to wiretap on US soil and granted retroactive immunity to telecommunication companies that facilitated years of illegal surveillance. In particular, we commend House leadership for its refusal to grant such retroactive immunity and for the inclusion of provisions that would allow courts to hear evidence in the relevant pending cases even in the face of state secrets claims. We also applaud efforts to preserve some judicial oversight over domestic surveillance.
Despite these laudable elements, the ACLU cannot support programs tha

Seumas MilneSeumas Milne writes in The Guardian's Comment is Free section that the media have forgotten that Israel's stranglehold on electrical power, commerce and the general infrastructure of the Gaza Strip is the starting point of the current violence between Gazans and the Israel Defense Force. Hamas is not the instigator. Milne observes: “BBC presenters have insisted that Palestinian rockets have been the "starting point" of the violence, as if the occupation itself did not exist. In the West Bank, from which no rockets are currently fired and where the US-backed administration of Mahmoud Abbas maintains a ceasefire, there have been 480 Israeli military attacks over the past three months and 26 Palestinians killed. By contrast, the rockets from Gaza which are supposed to be the j

Florida officials will soon begin junking the controversial ATM-style touch-screen voting machines in favor of paper ballots that are read by an optical scanner. Nearly 30,000 of the voting machines will be disposed of before the election.Six counties still owe nearly $33 million for the machines, but it is hoped that an attempt to sell them back to an electronic voting machine manufacturer will help make up those costs. The initiative is from Gov. Charlie Crist. The touch-screen machines contributed to confusion during the 2000 presidential election. Some counties will still use them for local elections in March, and a few will be kept for use by disabled voters. Source: www.miamiherald.com
AUSTIN, Texas - Voting on primary day is so yesterday. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton as well as the Republican contest. The two Democratic presidential rivals have put a premium on coaxing voters and others like her to the polls early, with success.Which is why Bill Clinton stood on the back of a red Chevy pickup truck in El Paso recently, pointing to a nearby early voting location and asking supporters to cast a ballot for his wife.Source :
I’ve got a LOT of conversations that I’ve read and haven’t had time to really comment on or dialog about, too many to keep up, so I’ll just post them below like I have before. Hope you find one you enjoy. All bloggers and blogs that I would highly recommend…

Several weeks back I filled out an online questionnaire that matched my views to those of the political opponents. I didn't post the results because I really didn't feel like talking about it, mostly because at that time there were still so many candidates still in the game. The results matched my views with Hillary's, who I never planned on voting for. I really couldn't put my finger on why, it was just something about her. It's not her hard as nails personality, that I kind of admire her for. I just couldn't figure it out well enough to write about it. Last night I read an article written by Marianne Williamson and I agree with her 100%. I finally found the words, albeit they're not mine, to explain what it was about Hillary that just didn't mesh with me::Feminism in the Age of No
Tim Vant the invisible Liberal candidate in Edmonton Strathcona has good advise to voters and fellow Liberals. VOTE STRATEGICALLY Don't throw your vote away. Seeing as he doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell against the well organized NDP candidate Rachel Notley.Reading on we discover that the Liberals are an environmentally friendly party; recycling old campaign strategies. Across the province they are calling for strategic voting...for them of course. The Alberta Liberal Team is the only party with a realistic chance of taking power away from the Conservatives and bringing change after 37 years of tired Tory government. If you want change, Tim Vant needs your vote. Except the only time they actually came close to beating the PC's was way, way, way, back in 1993. Under the leader
Method:You display a question in your MS Powerpoint presentation, the participants answer by sending a text message using their mobile telephones, and the results of the vote are displayed as a graph in the presentation.Pros:The participants themselves supply the voting devices, which are their own mobile telephones! There are no logistics, and the cost of organising the session is cut significantly.Cons:Writing a text message answer (the writing and sending of the text) is harder work than using a voting keypad (where there are just a few keys to press), so it takes longer to answer. You will also need an Internet connection on the PC and good coverage for the mobile telephones. My opinion:This is the best solution to use when you have a large number of participants (500+ people) and a sm

Yes, like many true conservatives the idea of me pulling the lever for John McCain isn't sitting well. Frankly, its doing about as well down there as the dinner scene in Alien. There are a lot of things that Conservatives are going to have to swallow when they walk into that voting booth and close that curtain. Let's take a look at some of the issues I have with a vote for John McCain.McCain-Feingold: At the center of every Conservative lies the Constitution of the United States. It is what defines our rights as citizens of this great nation. McCain-Feingold ran free speech through the ringers a couple of times, then spit it out on the pavement.McCain-Kennedy: Otherwise known to the entire nation as the amnesty bill. How many Americans were rallying behind this legislation? If you co
My 18th birthday was just last month, so I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to vote in the California primary. Luckily, it all went smoothly. I took my passport, since I have no other photo ID (no driver’s license), signed in, filled in the circle next to Obama’s name, then put the completed ballot [...]
