McCain should get Joe The Plumber to clean up the septic tank that has become his campaign from its vile racist undertone.

Ashley Todd, who is white, is being charged
Ashely Todd the McCain volunteer who claimed that she was robbed, and then attacked has confessed that she made it up. I opted to not even write about this situation yesterday because it did seem odd that the "B" that was supposedly cut into her face was backwards. It is unfortunate that this woman had to do this to gain attention.

Being a volunteer has many advantages. Of course the biggest one is the feeling you get when you do something nice for someone else. Secondly is the tax write offs that you can take for the supplies that you offer or mileage for the use of your car. The land of the Kohinoor, the Taj Mahal, and the mystics, India is incredible. You can never be prepared enough to expedience the world's biggest democracy! From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Mumbai to Meghalaya, India is a country of amazing contrasts, exquisite traditions, and varied cultures. If you decide on volunteering in India, it'll be an experience you're not likely to forget in your lifetime. While the urban section of the society is rich and educated, they constitute only 20-30% of the total population of the country. More than 70% of Indians stay in the countryside and almost 250 million people live in adverse situations forming the lower-to-poor economic class. Illiteracy, lack of proper health and civic infrastructure, and unemployment has been gnawing at the country's rapidly
If you don't already, why not consider volunteering? There is such a huge need for volunteers that ANYTHING you can do can make a huge difference - you don't need to have hours of spare time every day to do your bit, or a super predictable schedule - because I'm busy and my time commitments are all over the map, one thing I do in spare minutes here and there is blog for a non profit called Companions for Life. It's something I can do in the evenings or on weekends - hopefully it's useful in helping to get out their message of "No More Disposable Pets" (could I have asked for a more appropriate volunteering opportunity?!) and it takes a bit of the load off the rest of the team so they can continue to focus on education and shelter outreach.

A proposed law in Indiana would make it a requirement for parents to volunteer at their children's school. If the state legislature passes House Bill 519, the bill would require all parents to volunteer 13 hours each school year, either in the lunchroom, chaperoning field trips, or wherever the district needs help.Cleveland schools CEO Eugene Sanders said volunteerism is almost impossible to legislate."If there's a way to encourage it, create incentives, that's the better way. Volunteering with children is a great way to help them learn about giving back. Children learn valuable skills while “on the job.” Homeschooled students, who may have more time available for volunteering, could also enjoy the additional socialization opportunities presented through volunteering. Another benefit of volunteering is children learn about the concerns of the organization and what need it fills in the community. Consequently, the children also have an opportunity to remember what they have to be thankful for.
Work Together
It’s important to work side-by-side with your child, since leading by example has been shown to be the most effective form of teaching. Children who see their parents volunteering are much more likely to believe in the value of working to help others. Naturally, working side-by-side with your child will allow you to assist him/her when necessary, ensuring the child’s presence is a help, not a hindrance to the organization’s st

By: Alex LandinKenya is situated in East Africa and shares its borders with Somalia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Sudan. Kenya has one of the greatest or biggest wildlife habitats in the world and it is called the Masai Mara, which sees the annual migration of Wildebeast. Some of the other big animals found in Kenya include buffalo, lion, leopard, rhinoceros and elephants. Although Kenya has some natural resources and wildlife, there is still a lot more that Kenyan people need in terms of stabilizing the economy. There is poverty, lack of healthcare facilities, lack of education and poaching and amidst all this the Kenyan and the Masai tribal people are trying hard to carve an existence. If you are interested in overseas volunteer work and want to add to a cause then volunteering in Kenya is a great opportunity! There are many organizations, which have specific programs that can help you get volunteer work in the form of teaching English overseas or lend a helping hand in development
It is difficult for me to understand why some people do not volunteer. Especially with so many worthwhile organizations always having trouble finding enough people just to keep their programs functioning. In many cases, with more volunteers, these organizations could expand their programs to reach and help more people.
I know I cannot help every deserving organization out there. So, I have chosen the ones I volunteer for carefully. One of those is the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The BSA is committed to helping boys grow into responsible young men that exhibit the best morals, citizenship, and self-sufficiency possible.
As a youth member, I benefited from the time and effort of many adults who worked with the program. As a youth member, I did everything I could with the program and believe my efforts helped improve it. As an adult,I have now been a member for several years and am now entrusted with running the program for a unit. I am the leader, despite not having any children
ONE of the best ways I've ever found to help myself grown is to give more of myself to others. There's just something about watching others grow from the time and care you have put into them.
One of the truly special gifts of being a parent is having a child you can teach your skills to and one day watch them do all we can do even better. Even with children, it's an amazing experience to help others out with your free time and not much else will ever make you feel better about yourself. Below are ten ways you can volunteer even if you already have a busy family and career.
1. Your children's school- A great way to volunteer and spend more time with your children at the same time is to volunteer in their classrooms or at their school.
2. Homeless shelters- Homeless shelters need as many extra hands as they can get. It doesn't take more than a couple of hours each night you can to help feed dozens to hundreds of homeless. Read the 35 ways to help the homeless for more ideas o
For everyone who was anxiously awaiting Ian's report on volunteering in Guatemala, this is the best you are going to get. Ian is not a fan of writing, and it was painful to even bring up the idea of him writing a report, not to mention the sales job I had to do about how great it would be to have a record of what he thought of the trip.So we worked a compromise and we are doing this article in an interview format. If there is anything more painful than Ian writing a report, it is me doing an interview. (I think this aspect appealed to Ian, hence his agreement) To prepare for the interview, I re-read 13 Simple Journalist Techniques for Effective Interviews on Brave New Traveler. The techniques that were the most important for me:#1 Find a good location. I asked Ian where he would be comfortable doing the interview. His first suggestion was Chipotle, when I gave him The Look (all parents and teachers know this look) he said Dino's Gyros would also be acceptable. We settled on m
One dark night outside a small town in Alberta, a fire started inside the local sausage plant and in a blink of an eye it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments from miles around. When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the sausage company president rushed to the fire chief and said, "All of our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be saved and Il will give $50,000.00 to the fire department thatbrings them out intact." But the roaring flames held the firefighters off. Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now $100,000.00 to the fire department who could bring out the company's secret files. From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby Mundare Rural Township Volunteer Fire Department, composed mainly of Ukrainian men over the age of 65

After reading an interesting couple of articles about Voluntourism by Rob on his site Go Budget Travel, I have decided to help provide some tips to avoid being caught in a volunteer placement program which will ultimately charge you a fortune without the majority of the money going back to the project.

Now there are a multitude of options for people interested in mixing smaller doses of volunteering in with their holiday travel.
The question for many would-be “voluntourists” becomes, “how can I find a good volunteer travel program?”
Xola Consulting has spent the past two years working with a range of organizations providing blended adventure/volunteer experiences to travelers as well as talking with so-called “voluntourists” from age 20 to 72, and here’s how we break it down.
We’ve got two sections: Finding a Volunteer Trip and Evaluating Trips.
