Voluntary liquidation Posted By : Gareth Taylor16 Gareth Taylor16
The term liquidation refers to the selling of assets and other holdings to pay off debts. The term dissolution is often used with liquidation, as liquidation is usually the final stage in the closure of a company. Contrary to popular belief, not all liquidation is called for by legal compulsion and organizations can opt for voluntary liquidation. Although there are various legal alternatives to voluntary liquidation, sometimes voluntary liquidation is the only option available to a company. In a nutshell, voluntary liquidation is the process of converting a companys assets to cash. Voluntary liquidation is a mutual decision made by company owners/decision makers and is designed to avoid any legal complications (or when a company is being dissolved). If the liquidation is carried out to pay off debts, then the voluntary liquidation is further divided into two categories:

      Voluntary Tax Government
I have a question for the Objectivist readers of this blog.  Say that decades from now, Objectivism has become a popular idea and the government is scaled back, taxation is voluntary, and the government only consists of a monopoly on protection and courts.  If I were to break my contract with another man, and refuse to pay any reparation associated with the contract, would you support the governmental use of violence against me?  If I were to break any other law, say robbery, would you support the governmental use of violence against me? I want your honest answers and your reasons.  Thanks.

Price differential between voluntary offset markets points to fake projects and weak quality regimes
Offsets are in principle a sensible way to allocate funding for clean development in other parts of the world. The regimes that govern the generation of emissions credits for use in the voluntary market have come under a lot of criticism – including in a recent article in Nature – with good reason. It is a murky, immature market and there are plenty of people making dishonest profits. The clearest indicator of murkiness is the widely varying prices in different markets. Offsets can by definition be generated anywhere in the world. Credits generated by a renewable energy project in India, for example, could equally be sold in Europe or North America. And you would expect prices to be broadly similar - which they are not. Voluntary offsets that adhere to the Voluntary Carbon Standard cost around $15 per ton over the counter in the UK. Credits that have passed the Clean Development Mechanism (called CERs), which are valid in the ETS, currently cost $25.50 on the Nordpool exchange. In

Voluntary rent caps could turn the situation in favour of Landlords
Analysts are of the opinion that imposing a 'voluntary' rent cap, could turn the current situation in favour of Landlords, leading to a rampant increase in rent rates. This statement came, following a leading government official's statement that Dubai's rent cap may become voluntary, permitting landlords to adjust rents on par with current market rates. The CEO of RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority), Marwan bin Ghalita, said that the cap on price increases for renewed rents, when being renewed during the following year, should be done at a lower level than the current seven percent. However, he emphasized that in case the commercial or residential property Landlords are of the opinion that the cap is responsible for keeping rents below the market prices, they can argue for an adjustment, based on benchmark rate, recommended by RERA.According to Bin Ghalita, this system could be successful in reducing situations where the Landlords tend to evict tenants under silly pretexts for the

Live on Less Income - Give Yourself a Voluntary Paycut
My wife and I just took a large salary decrease - to the tune of about $20,000 per year after taxes. We did this voluntarily, because for us, our quality of life was more important than the money we were earning. We were able to afford this big pay cut because a year ago we gave ourselves a “voluntary pay cut.” We knew we would be earning less money within the year and we committed ourselves to spending much less than we were earning. Doing this allowed us to focus our “extra” money toward preparing for this salary decrease. Personal finance blogger No Credit Needed recently asked his readers: What would happen if your boss came into your office tomorrow morning, and told you that your salary had been reduced by 15%? Furthermore, what if he told you that a new law had been passed and you couldn’t change jobs for one full year - and you couldn’t borrow any money, for any reason? What would you do? This was very similar to the situation we faced, only our bos

How To Use Individual Voluntary Agreements As Part Of Your Debt Consolidation Solution Posted By : Ian Wilkie
In the United Kingdom there's a formal name, IVA, for the agreement between a debtor and a creditor to alter debt conditions, in the U.S. they do not employ the same name, but the idea is basically similar, it's a method for agreeing to settle a remaining debt, usually one that is overdue and which the debtor can not pay.

What is an IVA? - Individual Voluntary Arrangement - Debt Help
Introduced in the mid 1980s, IVAs have become very popular amongst those with high levels of unsecured debt. An IVA stands for Individual Voluntary Arrangement, and this is a binding contract made between the borrower and his or her creditors with regards to repayment of a debt. When they were introduced IVAs were seen as an effective alternative to bankruptcy, providing those in debt with a means of making more affordable repayments, reducing debt levels, and protecting assets. With consumer debt levels and bad debt at sky high levels in the UK, these IVAs have become increasingly popular amongst those looking for a solution to their debt problems. There are a number of considerations to bear in mind if you are thinking about opting for an IVA. Firstly, there are many IVA 'specialists' crawling out of the woodwork in the UK, but many of them are more concerned about making a profit rather than having the consumer's best interests at heart – fee charging agencies can make thousands

Thoughts on the Recent Supreme Court Decision: Voluntary Desegregation

No. 1.I can understand their outrage. Some are just now coming to terms with new face of the Supreme Court. It's not new really. It's still white and male. But something else is bothering me. I think we need to do a much better job of managing expectations in our communities and in our country. What do we expect diversity to accomplish? What is the goal? What do we expect public schools to accomplish? What do you expect public schools in your neighborhood to accomplish? How do you quantify it?What do you expect your children to accomplish? What are we expected to contribute toward those goals? Are we to just send the little ones off to be taken care of by someone else? While it remains to be seen what Coach Phillips will do, it is very disturbing to know that these highly paid professionals would choose not to try to spend every effort to learn and work with the team at this early but critical time.  The key word in all of this is “

Voluntary bed tax proposed in Edinburgh
There are discussions about implementing a voluntary bed tax in the Scottish capital. A mandatory bed tax has been ruled out but it is believed that if you ask in the right way and reassure visitors that the money raised will be spent on environmental and cultural initiatives some visitors will be happy to contribute. It is esimated that around three million pounds could be raised based a contribution of £1 per visitor. I am not sure how accommodation suppliers would feel about being the ones to collect the donation, it’s got to involve more work for them. I have the feeling that a sneaky way to get the donation would be that a suggested donation was included in the price and you had to opt out of paying. I don’t think that it is a good idea, a bed tax proposal was recently withdrawn in Venice. Visitors pay VAT on all their accommodation, meals and purchases and I think that in a very competitive travel market, Edinburgh could just be shooting itself in the foot. What d

In 2005, EPAÂ’s 12 voluntary climate protection programs prevented 63 million metric tons of carbon equivalent emissions - up from 57 million in 2004, according to a new EPA report released today.   Highlights of the report, Energy Star and Other Climate Protection Partnerships 2005 Annual Report, include savings from the governmentÂ’s Energy Star program. Americans, with the help of Energy Star, avoided greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 23 million automobiles in 2005 – up from 20 million in 2004 – while saving about $12 billion on their energy bills. Americans also saved a significant amount of energy in 2005 – 150 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) – or about 4 percent of the total 2005 electricity demand.   Other voluntary climate protection programs included in the report are the Climate Leaders Program, the Green Power Partnership, Methane Programs and initiatives that develop clean energy solutions and minimize emissions of other non-carbon dioxide gases
