By Jestine Yong The complaint for this LIKOM 15” L4031NDG Monitor was no display and has power. Well, no display can be no high voltage, failure in G1, G2 and heater circuit, defective flyback transformer, failure in picture tube and microprocessor or many other reasons . In order to find out the answer we have to switch on the Monitor. Upon switching on the monitor, I could not hear any sound from the monitor but the power led is on (green light). You can’t feel any static at the glass of the picture tube. This could be a sign of no high voltage symptom.Anyhow, I have to use my faithful Kaise SK9000 high voltage probe to check if the high voltage present at the anode. Sometimes if you can’t feel the static at the glass of CRT, doesn’t mean that the high voltage is not present. It’s only low in high voltage; say may be 10 to 12 kilovolts. Low high voltage and no high voltage are totally two different symptoms. In the above case, my high voltage probe registered zero volts! So

Many faults can’t be detected even if you know how to accurately test and check all the electronic components because those faults only can be detected by simply performing a voltage test. Do you know that quite a numbers of Monitor problems I have to perform a voltage test in order to locate the defective components? Yes, if without voltage testing, I might end up can’t find the fault and the Monitor have to be return back to customers. What if you return many Monitors back to the same customers? Of course your business reputation would be affected and worst if your competitors (other electronic repairers) be able to repair it. You would definetely lose out the customers and is very difficult to get back his trust again about your capability to repair Monitors.I do know lots of electronic repairers especially newbie’s
A friend of mine is selling his older Vivitar 285 Flash, 'Good Condition', slightly used, dropped only a few times, I swear ! He only wants $50.00 Dollars ( US ) to part with it forever, so I may have to help him out and add it to my camera bag. The 285 is a highly regarded portable flash, considered a dependable workhorse that has earned its place in photo equipment history. Cheap, tough and easy to use, with accuracy from its non E-TTL sensor that still outperforms some of those fancy newer $400.00 units. And all that for a fitty! That got me thinking about my Canon and the voltage sync compatibility problems with some of the newer Digital Cameras.I believe it's safe to use the 285 HV unit on any Canon Digital Camera, but the older 285 ( Non HV ) may fry your DSLR. Checking the voltage sync will be the safest and easiest way to guarantee that I don't cook any of my camera's electronics. This is a pulse-mode transformer circuit that I have some experience with.
I used this successfully in combination with a Polaroid transducer.
Introduction
The circuit can be used to generate a voltage of about 70V using a current of about 4 mA @ 6V input voltage. The use of an easily available stroboscope trigger coil makes it quite small.
How it works
The integrated circuit is a 7555 generating a 50/50 square wave of around 100 kHz. The square wave’s rising edges momentarily trigger the transistor into conduction, causing current to flow through the primary of the stroboscope transformer. The current pulse in the primary causes a much larger voltage pulse in the secondary of the transformer, thereby charging the output capacitor through the diodes.

Here is a simple circuit for generating over 100 volts from a 12 volt source for powering low current devices and experiments. The two transistors may be 2N4401 and 2N4403 or similar for lower power applications or higher power devices for heavier loads. If more power is desired then lower the two 10 ohm emitter resistors to 3.3 ohms. When driving power transistors, more drive may be achieved by adding two more gates and resistors in parallel with the two output gates shown. Notice that the two driver gates are simply in parallel with 220 ohm current limit resistors in series with their outputs.
The transformer is an ordinary power transformer but selecting a secondary voltage somewhat below the power supply voltage will give higher output voltage. The frequency is set near 60 Hz by the two 1 Meg. resistors and the 0.01 uF capacitor and this frequency may be varied for driving an audio transformer.
