Volkswagen is enhancing its Golf Estate range with the introduction of a permanent four-wheel drive version that allows as much as 100 per cent of the vehicle’s tractive force to be transmitted to the rear wheels if required. The 4Motion system is coupled with turbo-diesel (TDI) engine that generates 105 Hp. The Golf Estate TDI 4Motion accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 12.9 seconds, has a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph) and consumes just 6.0 litres of diesel per 100 km or 38.6 MPG (US). More importantly, the Golf Estate TDI 4Motion is permitted to tow as much as 1,500 kilograms or 3,307 lbs on gradients of up to twelve per cent – that’s 100 kilograms or 220 lbs more than its front-wheel-drive diesel counterpart. –More pics after the jump

Volkswagen is using September’s Frankfurt auto show to reassert its stature as a maker of efficient diesels in Europe. The new Golf BlueMotion will be one of six models with the environmentally friendly powerplant (the other five have not been disclosed).
The Golf BlueMotion will get 52 mpg, VW claims, an improvement on the already enviable 46 mpg of the outgoing model. The automaker says the compact car can go almost 750 miles on a 14.5-gallon tank of gas. Those wanting to do their part to save the planet can also feel good about the reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions.
The Golf BlueMotion is slated to go on sale at the end of the year in Germany, joining the Polo, Passat, and Passat Variant wagon with the clean-diesel technology. The BlueMotion label means it is the most efficient model in the series.
VW of America officials tell us BlueMotion is a European thing and is not legal here in the States
Volkswagen has brought a all new “The Golf GTI W12 concept car which has a 6.0 litre with twin turbocharged Bentley engine, rear wheel drive and 642 bhp. Which translates into a claimed 202 mph top speed and a 3.7 second 0-62 mph time and that’s with the engine restricted to just half its full torque output in first gear.”
Volkswagen prefers it as a “design study”. The important and unique feature is the custom body work which not only looks cool but also provides vital air intakes all over the vehicle which feed the impressive engine. But it costs too high of €1,000,000 nearly about $1,350,000 usd! [source]

At the Wörthersee 2007 Auto Show Volkswagen unveiled its hotted up Golf GTI W12 650 concept car, a race inspired hot hatch packing a Biturbo W12 engine developing peak power of 650hp (477kW) at 6,000rpm and torque of 750Nm.
The first thing that pops into your eyes is the exterior, which has been modded with a full wide-bodykit, the GTI now measures 1.88m wide, and rides on super-wide 295mm rubber at the back. These tires had to be specially engineered to fit the unique light alloy wheels. Inside, there’s Alcantara and an assortment of new switchgear and gauges located behind the transparent flip-up switch guards.
The W12 Concept is powered by 6.0-liter Biturbo engine placed longitudinal directly behind the driver and the front seat passenger and has a 6-speed automatic transmission. With these, the GTI W12 650 goes from 0 to 100 in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 325 km/h. (more…)
Yesterday in Geneva, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn officially introduced the world to the new Golf Variant. Early reports, including a VW press release issued in late February, indicated that the car would launch with a pair of gasoline and a pair of diesel engines. The official word at Geneva has changed to include just one gasoline engine and a pair of TDIs. The 1.4L TSI 4-cylinder won't appear in the car at launch...a last-minute change, from the looks of things. The press release pasted after the jump still mentions "two gasoline engines" in a section that didn't get the required edit. The absence of the TSI makes the 2.0 TDI the top-flight engine in the new wagon. It generates 140 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque while sipping fuel at a rate of 42 mpg. Volkswagen has just launched the new wagon version of its popular Golf hatch, which picks up the Golf Variant title in following with previous generation models of the estate. Measuring an extra 36cm over the regular Golf, the Variant offers up to 690L of storage space with five passengers on board. Fold down the rear seats and you're looking at a load space of 1550L.Unique exterior features include the new tail lamps that wrap around the sides of the rear fenders as well as the tail gate. The Variant will initially be launched with two gasoline and two diesel engines, which includes a 1.4L 140hp (103kW) "Twincharger" TFSI model.
