At first look, it appears that today could be a very volatile session. With two major numbers out this morning, PPI could be a major influence especially if we see a spike in its core rate and Retail Sales is also being released. A strong Retail Sales number could be overlooked today due to expectations of weaker data in the future. The major market mover for the day is probably going to be

The Independent reports David Cameron's concerns about Boris Johnson, the new London Mayor. Strategists are allegedly worried that the "unpredictable and gaffe-prone" Johnson may impede Cameron's otherwise smooth journey into power:Friends say Mr Cameron regards his fellow Old Etonian as an "amusing liability" and a few months ago never believed he would win the race...But senior Tory strategists now face a daily battle to ensure that Mr Cameron's smooth path to No 10 is not suddenly obstructed by an unpredictable and gaffe-prone Mayor. If Mr Johnson is interested going further and making it to the Conservative Cabinet, he is likely to behave himself, they say. But he could decide to make his mark as an independent-minded Mayor who is not answerable to the Tory leadership.Such concerns are

At the heart of the US sub-prime crisis is the ‘securitisation’ of inferior US housing loans. However, many of the sub-prime mortgage [...]

By: Nazy Massoud Have you told yourself, “I know exactly what is wrong and how to fix it, but I can't?” Have you ever blamed yourself for not having enough discipline to follow your plans? If so, you are not alone. People think that if you don't have self-discipline, you don't have control. They forget about the fear that creeps in. If you look at the markets, listen to the news and notice that the Dow Jones has dropped 1,000 points in a span of 8 to 10 days, it is normal to feel fear. You are glued to CNBC, Bloomberg or any other news source, listening to the bad news piling up. They bring in one expert after another with contrasting points of view. You are looking at different securities with good potential, yet their prices are falling down. Nothing makes sense and it is confusing.

Normally if a market is volatile it will keep on fluctuating up and down, and if your choices are suffering then dont get panic, and never try to treat it is junk and throw it out, dont do that unless it is visible about the share you are holding is losing in fundamental grounds, if nothing is wrong in the companies fundamental basics there is nothing wrong in holding the stocks for some more
EUR/USD was ranging today inside the yesterday's rate limits which were formed with the bullish tendencies triggered by the Tuesday FOMC meeting's statement. Main operational interest rate in the United States was cut by 25 basis points, which equals 0.25% - from 4.50% to 4.25%, while futures markets for the interest rate predicted a 0.50% cut.

Markets may be volatile for the next few days but one requires patience and careful selection of stocks to make money in this market. Those who are long term investors can just buy the required stocks and then forget about the market till the desired time. Those who are looking for short term gains as well as long term investment must be watching the markets carefully to make money and then ensure that more shares are added to the zero cost portfolio.Reliance Petro opened up smartly but then there was again huge interest for this counter and it crossed 95% limit again. Bears sensed this and hence there were lot of shorts in this counter. I believe this will explode any time but when is the big question? It will be very soon. With petrol prices increasing one stock which is going to make news is Minda Industries which manufactures LPG kits for maruti. It is currently at 247 and it should cross 300 in quick time. I believe it should touch 500 in one year as there is going to be heavy deman
Markets rallied smartly yesterday in the morning as expected but as I was saying that it was like playing musical chairs and so some one decided to stop the music abruptly. Profit booking started and though there was some recovery, panic was evident in the market as correction started. 20K is being like a tough point for the market to close.US markets tanked yesterday as further rate cut seemed unlikely and also economy slowing down. Our markets will react to this news but once we see good correction, rally should resume again. This should provide good opportunity to buy again.IFCI tanked again to 80 levels after reaching 95 and again a good chance to buy now. I am sure one will get another 3 to 4 opportunities like this.Focus on specific stocks and buy accordingly in the correction mode.
Yesterday, Soccer Source predicted trouble for Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool, a potential struggle for Real Madrid and smooth sailing for Chelsea. Okay, I also thought Valencia would win their game. And actually, I didn't predict smooth sailing for Chelsea either, but I did say they wouldn't have the cakewalk Arsenal had. Then again, the U.S. men's basketball team at the '92 Olympics didn't quite have that kind of cakewalk. Go here to see the all of the games' goals (thanks to footytube for the links). The biggest surprise on the day in my opinion was Rosenborg which moved into second place in their group thanks to the victory. (And maybe into the top 25 as well? We'll have to wait and see for that). Chelsea are now as good as through. Schalke, whom they beat 2-0 at Stamford Bridge do not look to be as good as they have been in recent years. The Germans are still alive though, trailing Rosenborg by only one point. Real Madrid are also in good shape after a terrific game against
In times of volatile market movements, it is a challenge for some investors to keep their emotions in check. When markets are in a strong rally, our herd instinct compels us to join the crowd and ride with the upside. But when markets correct, we are prone to sell out in panic. Yet, the wisest thing for investors to do at such times may be to remain calm and maintain a focused approach for their investments. Keeping an investment portfolio that is invested across different asset classes is a sound and effective strategy to ride through periods of adverse market movements.Stock markets are volatile by nature and as illustrated in recent weeks, extended periods of rising share prices can often be interrupted by sudden bouts of consolidation. In such times, investors with moderate risk profiles should consider holding a balanced fund which is invested in both equities and bonds in near equal proportions. Balanced funds aim to provide income and capital growth over the medium to long term

These days Gul is quite excited about her forthcoming film. Ask her what makes it all that special and the gal enthuses, “Manorama Six Feet Under is a whodunit kind of film-a murder mystery, which is set in the backdrop of a small town. It’s an intensely woven film, which is highly believable. I play the role of Nimmia woman with mercurial twists of temper, who’s married to Abhay Deol, a PWD engineer.”

For any investor who holds oil and natural gas stocks in their portfolio, the movement of those stocks is typically tied to the underlying commodity, not to the broader markets. Investing in energy stocks does not come without sharp volatility that may keep small investors on their toes and awake at night, but with the introduction of new Exchange Traded Fund products, investors now have a way to keep the overall movement to a minimum.
The idea behind the strategy is that an investor has a long exposure to oil and natural gas companies and hedges that exposure with a short position in an oil or natural gas commodity ETF. For example:
An investor has a $50,000 long exposure to oil companies and $25,000 long exposure to natural gas companies. To hedge his investment, the investor would sell short $50,000 of an oil commodity ETF, such as the iPath S&P GSCI Crude Oil Tot Ret Idx ETN (OIL), U.S. Oil Fund ETF (USO), Claymore MACROshares Oil Up Tradeable Tr (UCR) or PowerShares DB Oil
Stocks continued a volatile trading day today as lingering fears over fallout from the troubled U.S. sub-prime mortgage market continued to weigh on investor sentiment. After opening at 13,078.51 points and then dropping below the 13000 mark, the Dow Jones Industrial Average bounced back in late trading to above 13100, but on lower volume than the previous trading day in what looked like a cover spike. But woes persisted as flight to quality continued and the yield on the 3-month U.S. Treasury bill dropped below 2.5% -a 20 year low (U.S. Treasury bills are considered risk-free, as investor's bid up the price the yield on the T-bill drops).

There may be cases where they earlier bought some of the resource stocks, some of the mining stocks and the prospect for potential takeovers down the road and now for one reason or another ... they're selling those stocks."The drops in Toronto and New York followed similarly steep losses in

Last Friday I was already preparing for a stormy week ahead and I observed the price actions with keen interest. Every rally was shortlived and sellers were out in full force driving prices to close flat or lower. I do not like this kind of action. Furthermore, I observed since the rebound, the market rotated very fast and quick as if prices were jacked up to offload. We had it easy during the last few months where stocks just flew up the charts. Now is the time where the informed market participants will be able to separate themselves from the misinformed. The question on everyone's mind (including mine), isit time to buy now? I must admit, it is very easy to be tempted by the "cheaper" prices we are seeing now. If i buy because I think the prices are cheap then I am not following my trading rules. Deep inside me, I know what is the consequences of not following my own trading rules and system. Also, I never forget what the great Livermore said in his book, "There are times to
Jaipur, May 31 (IANS) Arterial highways were blocked as tension continued in Rajasthan Thursday with reports of official property being torched coming in from various parts while the government grappled to find a solution by holding nightlong talks with Gujjars, demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
