When I finished this today I noticed how the dogwood blossoms and the two limbs up on the right of the main trunk of the tree are making themselves seem like quotation marks. Also, I think the little stems with the dogwood blossom buds remind me of musical notes. If a painting were a song, I think this one would sing. Except woodpeckers don't really sing. One thing I am concerned about here is whether the entire picture is too busy. However, this is the woods and animals tend to be in the camouflage mode. Plus, if I am seeking some sense of realism here, the scene actually looks like this with all of the twigs and leafy background. I thought about making this painting more of a sketch by just painting the woodpecker and tree in detail and then scrubbing the rest out to a faint blur. The restored Kelso Depot is now the visitor center for the Mojave National Preserve. This once busy train station housed the Kelso Clubhouse & Restaurant which served passenger trains and the nearby Kaiser's Vulcan mine. The Kelso Depot's function as a train stop ended in 1962, although the restaurant and boarding rooms were still in use. Finally in 1985 the building was closed completely. The Depot passed into the hands of the National Park Service and renovation began in 2002. The building reopened to the public as the new visitor center for Mojave National Preserve in October, 2005. Kalibo, Aklan — Tourists arrivals in Boracay Island have surpassed the half-million mark a month before the year ends, records from the Provincial Tourism Office here show. From January to November of this year, a total of 547,305 tourists, domestic and foreign, visited the island. Their arrival in the island generated a total of P10,062,326,737.00 in tourism receipts, with the foreign tourists contributing P6,535,377,089 and the locals adding P4,770,800,330. Of the more than half a million arrivals in the island within the eleven month period, 189,005 were foreigners; 300,955 domestic and 57,345 were Overseas Filipinos. (more…)

We’ve just published the visitor stats for November month end, and once again, visitor numbers have increased.  We started the year with the number of visits to the website at 547. By comparison, thye website received 12,784 visits during November and over 60,000 page views. However, we won’t be resting on our laurels, and we’ll be looking to double those figures during 2008.
