The results are in from Nintendo Power's poll of most wanted games for the Virtual Console. As I reported, Starmen.net urged fans to vote for Earthbound, and Mother, if you like (since Mother 3 is a GBA game, it's likely not ever coming to the VC, if it were to be released). the results....are surprising. The official results read:1) Earthbound2) Super Mario RPG3) Chrono Trigger4) Mother5) Majora's MaskYes. Earthbound DID get the top spot for the most wanted game people who voted want for the VC. And Mother got spot #4. Wow. I did not foresee this. At all.And check that out, Super Mario RPG beat Chrono Trigger??? And Earthbound even beat Chrono Trigger. Wow. Just...wow. That's really something. And I don't know what the Hell Majora's Mask is even doing on there. But will Nintendo of Americ
The newest issue of Nintendo Power asks readers to let them know what classic games they want to see on the Virtual Console, and want readers' lists of the top 5 choices they have for games, and the results will be posted 'in an upcoming issue'. However, take note that NP does say "This is for polling purposes only, and will in no way determine future Virtual Console releases". 'In no way'? Then why bother? Well, they are a magazine who is simply asking for audience feedback. That's part of it. But also, well, maybe Nintendo of America will take notice of some of the most popular choices, and consider putting them out on the VC.Naturally, Starmen.net is all over this, and suggests that if people want Mother and Earthbound/Mother 2 on the VC, they should put these games on their list. As I
The latest additions to the Virtual Console library this week are King’s Knight and Powerball. King’s Knight is a top-down shooter that was developed by Square and originally released on the NES. It features five stages, multiple characters and, most interestingly, a princess to save. It can be purchased for 500 Wii points. Created by Namco, Powerball is described as a hybrid of football and rugby, with its publisher claiming it as a “brand new sport”. Originally released for the Sega Genesis, the game can be bought for 800 Wii points.
Resta agora [...]
From December 11 of this year, gamers will be able to send Virtual console titles as gifts. It's a pretty neat idea don'tcha think? Especially if you have no idea what to get a fellow gaming friend or want to surpise a gaming buddy you've made online. Not that I'm trying to hint at anything. As you can see from the video, users will have two download options: One to download the game for themselves and another to send it as a gift. From there you select the recipient from your Wii address book (my Wii console code is 8391 4242 0346 8444) and you can even type them a little message! (Tell me you love me). For those who don't already know, WiiMail is as slow as shit. You could buy an old classic console on eBay, along with a cartridge copy of a game and FedEx it to your buddy in the time it takes for a WiiMail to send. (I want Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64). I wonder what happens if you send a game to somebody that they already own? Will the system be able to retrieve that info

PAL regions are the first to get Castlevania II, where Drac is back! And blast off with the first TurboDuo (TurboGrafx-CD) title Gate of Thunder for Virtual Console and a new NEOGEO game World Heroes. We’ve included videos of all games for nostalgia’s sake or so you can see if it’s for you. This week’s new games are:
In Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest for NES (priced 500 Wii Points = €5 / £3.75 / AU$7.50), vampire hunter Simon Belmont must track down and destroy Dracula’s remains in order to save himself from a deadly curse. Castlevania II expands on its predecessor with the addition of new adventure elements and also a day and night system that
For the first time ever this month, European and Australian Wii owners through the Wii Shop Channel will be able to broaden their horizons with a selection of great games previously only available in Japan and America. Last week we gave an introduction of this first Hanabi Festival.
This week it’s Ninja Week, where we welcome two classic action games to Virtual Console that have their roots in Japan:
Ninja Gaiden (NES): Originally released in Europe under the title Shadow Warriors, this Virtual Console version is the 1989 North American release, bearing the name that has made the series famous.
Ninja Gaiden tells the story of Ryu Hayabusa on a quest across the U.S. to avenge his father’s death, and was famed for its cinematic-style presentation and intense, challenging action.
Read our Ninja Gaiden review if you’re looking to buy it.

I opened up my e-mail this morning to a rather interesting note. SNK Playmore Japan and Nintendo have announced the first series of NEO GEO titles to be released on the Virtual Console as well as the pricing for the games. Starting September 11th, Japanese Wii owners will be able to download faithfully emulated versions of NEO GEO classic arcade games starting at 900 Wii points. The first game set to be available for the Virtual Console service is Fatal Fury. This is a bit of an odd choice in my opinion. With the release of a collection of Fatal Fury titles in Fatal Fury Battle Archives for a budget price (only a little more than this game) on the PS2 as well as an online-enabled Fatal Fury Special for 400 Marketplace points for Xbox Live Arcade, you would think that SNK Playmore Japan and Nintendo would be jumping to offer something new to their customers. Fatal Fury is hugely popular in Japan however, and it was also one of the NEO GEO's earliest hits, so I guess in a way it m
Contra holds an odd place in the history of console vs. arcade gaming. Though the series has its roots firmly in the difficult action and game play found in arcades in the late 80's, the series itself rose to greater esteem once it was finally ported to the NES. However, changes in the look, feel, and sound due to the NES's insufficient power as well as a conscious decision to "tame" the violence found in the arcade version created an experience that, while Contra in name, was only superficially related. With Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS coming out this fall/winter, I've been finding myself wanting to play through the old Contra series to revisit one of my personal gaming roots. Contra at the arcades was one of the very first arcade games I ever played as a child, and thusly so, my opinions of the series was always based primarily on the experiences first delivered at the arcades rather than the home console versions.Super C (the sequel to Contra and based roughly on the arca

The original headline was something along the lines of "Samus and Shinobi tour Neutopia on Virtual Console" but honestly, the less time spent thinking up trite headlines the better. Today's incredible Virtual Console update has steamrolled our Monday productivity into a lackadaisical mush of "meh."Super Metroid (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii points): Considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time (evar), Super Metroid hardly requires a descriptive paragraph such as this one. Needless to say then, that it features Samus doing what she does best: murdering metroids, blasting evil brains and reminding us why we need to stay alive until August 27th.Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii points): The third entry in Sega's ninja kill-em-up series and arguably the best. As far as side-scrolling slashers go, the Shinobi one is your only hope... for gaming fun!Neutopia (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii points): Neutopia is often labeled as a Legend of Zel

The original Metroid, which we reviewed for NES, blasts onto the Virtual Console in PAL regions. See how the story of Samus Aran began! Metroid, the NES platform shooter from 1987, now comes to Virtual Console.
Metroid was a truly ground-breaking game that established the famous trademarks of the hit series: massive environments, upgradeable weapons and suits, and the famous Morph Ball ability.
Complete the game in less than 5 hours and you’ll see the moment when players first discovered Samus’s true identity!

flangracneig pgoramian As a way to keep myself entertained during Shutdown Day, I did download some games from the Wii’s Virtual Console feature. Yes, I do realise that technically it’s going online, but I really don’t care too much. In the traditional “Checking e-mails, forums, feeds and Adsense”, the stuff I’d normally do, I didn’t.
Anyway, I downloaded The Legend of Zelda II - The Adventure of Link. I’ll be honest, I had it as a kid, and I quite liked it. As a full grown adult, I’m not sure. It isn’t bad, and it has occupied me when Wii Sports and Wii Play are not required (usually when I’m alone, late at night, and I cannot be arsed jumping around the room). But at times it is the most frustrating game ever. The fact the game has only one restart point - the main castle, so whenever you die you end up there.
There is one little known fact about the game. It is the first form of prostitution ever in a video game. Basi
