Houston Texans#26 Overall (Acquired from Baltimore via Jacksonville)Duane Brown (OT) Virgina TechThis is called reaching to fill a need. The Texans have needed OL help since their inception. But this was a reach. I think they got too cute trying to trade down and they went too far. If they can hit on one of the extra picks they got this is fine pick. This is the danger zone right here.
In what can only be seen as the politicization of a tragic event for political gain, the gun-control advocates at the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence and ProtestEasyGuns.com (they are not deserving of a hyperlink) sought to hold their own demonstration on the Drillfield at Tech and at 70 other cites across America on April 16th to [...]

My daughter Kat is a junior in the Residential Property Management program at Virginia Tech. This was the first Residential Property Management bachelor's-degree program in the country and was started in 1996. Dr. Rosemary Goss was named its first professor and she is still the head of the program. The annual Collegiate Jobs Fair just wrapped up today. Kat attended the fair last year and got a summer internship in Charlottesville. Though she didn't get credit hours, she gained the experience these companies were looking for. I'm so impressed by the professors at VT; I never thought my daughter would consider property management, too many days spent cleaning up after evicted tenants. But she has really thrived in this progra

The news on CNN this morning about a mom who bought her son a rifle on a gun show infuriates me to no end! Turn out, this lad was planning a Columbine type school shooting - good thing it was discovered earlier and was avoided. A mom buying her son a gun - what the heck?Yesterday, all day, I was thinking about the recent school shooting that happened on Ohio. I was thinking about the lad... I was wondering what has gone wrong. I was wonderful if there was something that could have done to help him turn around his ways. Could someone just have shown some compassion to him, maybe he wouldn't have snapped? Also, I was also wondering where he got the gun he used...And then this morning I saw that news - something is definitely wrong in that picture! Has that mom not learned from all the school shootings that happened before?Yesterday, while thinking about the Ohio shooting, I can't help but think how our society is really contributing a lot to this "school shooting tragedies". Where I normally just discuss many topics with a few people in private, I felt the need to voice my feelings in a brief way on what some are calling a day of quiet reflection for the Virginia Tech Tragedy. (Blacksburg, VA) Almost two weeks after the worst mass shooting in modern American history, the students and faculty of Virginia Tech are trying to pick themselves up and move forward, easier said than done for the female Hokies. University officials say that their young women are being preyed upon by a group of polite, well-groomed and handsome young men. Men, who are using what is called as ‘The Fawn Lebowitz Maneuver’, made famous in the college comedy ANIMAL HOUSE, to separate the girls from their clothes.
The liberal Arabic-language website Aafaq reports that a Muslim student set off a debate when she sent an email to the mailing list of a Muslim students' association (rabitat al-tullab al-muslimin) at Virginia Tech asking the students to pray that Allah have mercy on those killed and wounded in the shooting attack at the university. According to Aafaq, the dean of student affairs at American International University, Abu Hamza Hijji, responded, writing that Allah the Most Merciful forbids praying for mercy for the non-Muslim dead, or even for the non-Muslim living, and that it is only permitted to pray that they be rightly guided. He added that what happened was a sad occurrence, but that does not give Muslims the right to transgress the laws of Allah the Most Merciful.More
A variety of news sources have reported that Cho Seung Hui, the Virginia Tech shooter who killed 32 students and faculty members in a shooting rampage, was taking antidepressant drugs.Antidepressants have also been used by the perpetrators of previous and similar acts of violence, including the shootings at Columbine High School eight years ago. There are known links between antidepressants and violent acts. Research on the drug Paxil found that more than twice as many people taking it experienced a serious "hostility event" as did those taking a placebo. In the United States, labels for all antidepressants note that anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, impulsivity, and mania are all possible side effects.Part of the cause may be the disconnect with reality these drugs sometimes reportedly cause. In another study of the links between antidepressants and violence, a 12-year-old boy who killed his grandparents while he was on a course of antidepressa
South Koreans In America AskedTo Fast For RepentenceSouth Koreans living in America have been asked by their ambassador to fast for repentance after the killing spree by their countryman Cho Seung-Hui.With the massacre at Virginia Tech viewed at home as bringing shame on the nation, senior officials in Seoul have held a series of emergency meetings to determine their response to Cho’s murder of 32 students and academics on Monday.“I and my fellow citizens can only feel shock and a wrenching of our hearts,” said President Roh Moo-hyun, as he expressed his condolences to the victims, their families and the American people on Wednesday.“I hope US society can get over such immense sadness and find a sense of composure as soon as possible,” he added. The massacre has sparked soul-searching in South Korea and dominated local television and newspapers.“Koreans can often view the world through a nationalistic lens and they will feel a sense of responsibility,” said Michael Breen,
The “Shoot the Rapper” banner ad (shown above) that I have frequently spotted on MySpace is really starting to erk me now in a way, it just started popping up more and more ever since I’ve placed that link (also shown above) from my dedication post to the Virgina Tech victims up there. I just ignored it at first, but now I’m seeing more and more people complaining about this issue, one blogger who saw the ad while looking at the profile of a Virginia Tech victim said, “I was looking at one student’s MySpace profile, and noticed the rotating banner ad: ‘Shoot the Rapper, win $5,000.‘ I hope MySpace deletes the ad soon.” Shawn Gold, CMO of MySpace said that banner ads on MySpace aren’t placed contextually and so whatever is happening is random, “That’s a random network ad that runs throughout out site, and it’s not connected contextually because we don’t place banner ads contextually on MySpace,” said

According to the investigators at Virginia Tech, Cho may be under the influence of depression drugs which may cause suicidal behavior, psychosis and homicidal ideation. Some people couldn’t help thinking about the Columbine High School rampage happened almost 8 years ago and wondered if antidepressants were involved. It is not possible that antidepressants are involved on these issues. It is very common story and most attacks are committed by those people under antidepressant medications. I wonder what the FDA would do next.

As I have said elsewhere people wasted no time in attempting to sue the Virginia Tech massacre as a soapbox for their particular causes be it gun control or stricter security on our nations campuses. And while I think it inevitable that this tragedy be used as a springboard for change people should damned well let the suffering have a chance to grieve. I have already seen all too many, on both sides of the aisle, trying to grab the public spotlight for their own particular cause. Charles Krauthammer points this out in the following piece as well as commenting on those attempting to use it for their own purposes. Be it an op ed writer or an angry leftist we need to just back off and let things cool down a bit. It is a good part of the human psyche that we attempt to learn from such tragedies but lets please show some consideration for those close to the victims. ~RJH Washington Post article link A Moment of SilenceBy Charles KrauthammerFriday, April 20, 2007; Page A31 What can be sa
We at the Church of Integrity send our condolences to the victims and their families. The families probably don't know what to do now, let alone knowing what the right thing to do is! They need our help. No matter which religion you come from then I hope you pray for or send good thoughts to the survivors and the families. Better yet, if you know someone connected to the tragedy then talk to them. They need the support of those that can think somewhat clearly at the moment.
Again, senseless tragedy strikes mankind at the hands of another very twisted individual. As we grieve for the 32 lost lives and the families and friends of all thirty-three dead, we need to ask ourselves what has changed so drastically in our society, since the era of "Leave it to Beaver" and "The Waltons"?
The first thing which comes to my mind is that our "moral barometer" has been broken for far too long. We live in an age where "anything goes" and is accepted as normal. We strive to uphold and legalize "rights" for individuals at the expense of society as a whole. We write new and idiotic laws that we do not have the ability to enforce, and watch in futility as the honest, law-abiding citizens follow things like "gun control laws" while those bent on criminal activity will ignore them - as always - and have their own way. We have become driven toward "gimme gimme NOW" attitudes without even earning the right to have the things we desire.

Okay, so I’m not technically an alum. I never graduated from Tech. But I did attend Virginia Tech for three years and it has been in my blood for decades. I’ve screamed and cheered in Lane Stadium. I’ve slipped and slid across the drill field on chilly, snow covered mornings. I’ve played pool and chowed down at the Hokie House. Virginia Tech is a second home to me. And someone has come into my house, MY HOUSE, and mowed down my brother’s and sister’s in cold blood. They have used this historical, beautiful campus as a backdrop for gut curdling evil.
So many people, friends and strangers alike, keep asking me how I feel. “Didn’t you go to Tech?” “I see you have a Tech license plate.” “So you went to Tech huh?” all of these are paired with pitying, half hearted smiles of attempted comfort.
I don’t want comfort.
I want justice.
I want the person who did this to still be alive. I want him t
There is so much being written about the Virginia Tech shootings that it is frankly difficult to keep up. A few pieces I like include ones by GW President Joel Trachtenberg's, the Washington Post Marc Fisher's, and this by freelance writer David Chartrand. The bottom line is that students who may be dangerous to themselves or others must be removed from schools and safety always supersedes student privacy.
In light of Monday’s terrible event I want to take time and give prayer for the individuals involved.
Jesus, I come to You in prayer for all the people that have been affected by tragic shooting. We come to You for hope and comfort, Jesus. Only You can heal our hearts as we grieve deeply [...]

I've not blogged about Virginia Tech because quite frankly I've been avoiding the subject these past few days - no radio, television or articles. The closest I've come to the incident was the initial news break, a few forum message postings about it and now his video strewn about all over CNN online.I didn't want to know. But when I saw his video I had had enough. I didn't think it was in poor taste to air it. I simply did not want to live the incident through Mr. Seung-Hui's eyes. I did not want his perspective. I didn't need to be reminded of the madness that propelled this event.A few minutes ago I went back to CNN out of boredom and saw this face.I nearly lost it. I knew it was one of the victims. He looked so young. Then another. Can you imagine a more vibrant and promising picture?I started reading their stories and had to swallow back my emotions. This is what they should be airing - the lives and stories of the ones who lost their life. In death let us celebrate t

Your homeschoolers may ask, “Why would God let a tragedy like this happen?” This is a tough question to answer, and one that even the greatest theologians disagree about.
I believe the best way to approach this issue is to explain to your children the ramifications of sin. Ever since Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden, humanity has suffered the consequences of their sin. We toil under the sun for our sustenance, we suffer diseases and death, and we experience grief and anguish.
God gives us free will. As a result, we must deal with the consequences of other people’s sin. Tragedies like the Virginia Tech Massacre are an extreme result of sin.
Remember to explain to your homeschoolers that God has a perfect plan for this world. Even though it may be hard to see it, it’s imperative that we trust him. If we truly believe that “He’s got the whole world in His hands”, then we must recognize that God knows wha

We are the Hokies
We are the Hokies
We who have graced your hallowed halls
Bleed now through our endless tears of grief
We are the Hokies
Our hearts laid raw by this senseless act
Our minds enraged
We are the Hokies
We have stumbled under the weight of this great tragedy
But we stand as one once again
We are the Hokies
Proud and tall and always united
Ever mindful of the precious lives we have lost
We are the Hokies
And we will never forget.

I cannot even express how devastated we are by this senseless tragedy. It hurts my heart that my school, where I had and still have so many wonderful memories, is now the backdrop for one of the worlds most horrendous acts of cruelty.

The moonbats never let me down. This is a letter from the Hot Air mailbag and is just the sort of thing I have been expecting. Somehow it must be Bush's fault that this horrific event at Virginia Tech happened. If a lib stubs a toe it's Bush's fault. If they lose their minimum wage job for looking at pr0n all day instead of working it's Bush's fault. If they get shot down by the cute girl next door it's Bush's fault and not because they are pimply faced raving moonbats living in their parents basements. Nut it makes sense...sort of. They have such a lack of personal responsibility for their own actions everything that happens to them must be someones fault other than their own, so why not the eeeeeeevul hated Bushco? Im waiting to see some tin foil wearing hippie at Democratic Underground insist that Bush personally gave the guns to Cho or at least refilled the high capacity clips for him before he went on his killing rampage. You think I kid? I have seen much loonier horse shi

Evidently he sent a package with video, pictures and an 1800 word manifesto of sorts to NBC. The zip code was wrong so it ended up taking an extra couple of days to get there. An Indonesian whose family sold property and cars to pay his tuition, a boy who played soccer on a potholed street in Lima and an aspiring architect from Mumbai - dreams and struggles brought them together in a small Virginia college town. An American tragedy carried grief back to their homelands and other corners of the world. At least seven of the 33 people who died in Monday's shooting at Virginia Tech were immigrants or foreign citizens - part of more than 600,000 international scholars and students at places of higher education across the United States. The student blamed for carnage also had roots abroad, coming with his parents from South Korea to suburban Washington, D.C., as a boy in 1992. The global fallout is just one of the many mournful spectacles following the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history. Across different traditions and cultures, dozens of families are momentarily united in grief and disbelief.

A gunman opened fire in Virginia Tech campus on Monday morning. The shooting rampage was registered in the dormitory and in the academic building. According to the preliminary reports, 33 people were killed, including the gunman, and 28 were injured, REGNUM-KNews reported.Investigators gave no motive for the attack. The gunman's name was not immediately released. It is known that was a young man of Asian appearance having a lot of ammunition with him. Law enforcement officials told ABC News they believed there was a single gunman who fired at least two 9mm semi-automatic pistols. They said he might have been wearing a bulletproof vest, and that he killed himself on the back of his head after opening fire on his victims. The law enforcement officials undertaking the investigation are to establish why the university's heads did not close the area down and handle the emergency after the first burst of gunfire. The gunman first shot down two students in the dormitory and two hours later o

I haven’t been following the news about this, because I could personally care less. Yes, it’s sad. And I feel bad for the family’s of the dead ones. But it happens almost every day. It’s nothing new. BUT…After seeing on local girl featured on the news, and hearing that he did it because he was rejected by a girl (and other reasons I’m sure), methinks she was the one he was after. I could be wrong. Don’t quote me on it. (more…)
April 18 (Bloomberg) — The Virginia Tech University student who carried out the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was questioned twice over stalking incidents in 2005 and taken to a mental-health clinic, police said.
Cho Seung Hui was taken to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in December 2005 after his second run-in with Virginia Tech police that semester over unwanted online messages to two women, university Police Chief Wendell Flinchum said in a news conference today in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Cho twice sent “annoying messages” to the unidentified students, and no criminal charges were pursued, Flinchum said.
An acquaintance told police he feared Cho was suicidal, Flinchum said. Officers escorted Cho to the clinic in nearby Radford, Flinchum said. It wasn’t clear whether he entered voluntarily.
Cho killed 32 people on April 16 at the campus before taking his own life. At least nine people remain hospitalized, including five in intensive-care u
(Sorry for uploading this so late, I had a doctor’s appointment this morning for an adverse reaction to some medication I took last night.)The Washington Nationals lost to the Atlanta Braves last night at RFK by a score of 6-4. Jerome Williams struggled in the first inning as he allowed three runs to score, and by the third inning it was 4-0.The Nationals battled back in the seventh inning to get the score to 5-4, but Rafael Soriano shut the rally down. The team scored twice in the 7th inning to get within one run; however, big bats, Ryan Zimmerman nor Dmitri Young could get anything done. The Braves made three errors, two by shortstop Edgar Renteria and he in a way helped the Nationals get back into the ballgame.Looking back from last night, the result did not matter much, as in the second inning, the Nationals sprinted out to the field with maroon Virginia Tech caps on, some of the coaches wore white caps with the school logo, and those in attendance rose and applauded. “In a news conference today, the police revealed more details about the 23-year-old students who was named as the gunman in the shooting rampage in which 32 people were killed. Mr. Cho also died, shooting himself in the face at the end of the spree.
The police said that in November, 2005, Mr. Cho contacted a fellow female student who notified the campus police. She declined to press charges. In December, a second female student also complained to the police. While no threats were made, he was asked to have no further contact with her after the “annoying” messages.”

I was wondering how long it would be and who would be the first to blame Bush for the VT killings. I had assumed it would be some moonbat at Daily Kos or Democratic Underground but Olberman beats them to it. Ok to be perfectly honest I havent read every single thread at the previously mentioned moonbat hives so maybe Olberman really wasnt the first. But he is the first I have seen on the MSM to voice this. Hey Maher dont you feel like a slacker for letting Olberman beat you to it? And then Olberman didnt even get it right as the 94 ban never did cover high capacity magazines. I don't own any weapons myself. The only time I have was when I had bought them as a gift for someone else. But I like the idea that as an American citizen of adult age I can purchase one should I desire. The people that are such crybabies about gun ownership plain don't trust us. They know that an armed citizenry is the best defense against a tyrannical government. Universally the first thing that fascist, socialist and communist governments do is to disarm the citizens. That is a historical FACT. And just look at the Democrats never ending efforts to disarm us in the name of "community safety". As if criminals will pay the slightest attention to gun laws. The right to defend ones self is right up there with private property rights. VTMy heart goes out to every parent, student and faculty member of Virginia Tech . Sadly, this young man didn't have any hope, peace or the truth of God's abiding love in his life.I will continue to pray for the families and friends of those men and women whose lives were tragically ended yesterday.
I have to watch the news because I give a news brief to my Army engineer class every day. I turn on the TV and had to turn it off before the onset of physical illness caused by over-coverage, stupidity, and exploitation after this exchange on Fox between a reporter and a student:
-Did you hear the shots?
-Yes
-What did they sound like?
-(paraphrasing) Like bang bang. At first I thought they were fixing something.
-Were they fast or slow?
-Kind of fast.
I am very chocked of what is happening at Virginia Tech.
First and foremost the amount of innocent death people. Just like cancer patients don’t choose to die, these students shot by Cho Seung-Hui didn’t choose to die either.
Yet all are gone. Like with cancer patients and their killer: cancer, now students and their [...]
