The oldest QB in the National Football League will get his second start Sunday for the Panthers. In a move that caught some with shock on Friday, the Panthers named 43-year-old Vinny Testaverde as their starter for Sunday’s key home matchup with the unbeaten Indy Colts. Vinny started for Carolina two weeks ago at Arizona and walked out with an impressive win for a player who had been with the team for five days.
Coach John Fox said that by naming Vinny the starter it does not mean anything against QB David Carr, who will miss the game with a back injury. “It’s not an indictment on David Carr by any stretch. I don’t feel he’s 100 percent,” Fox said. “He’s healthy enough to play, but I don’t think he’s 100 percent.” Fox went on to say he thought that Carr was not far enough along to play after suffering a fracture in his lower back on October 7th.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com reports that despite rumors of becoming the backup in Arizona, former Jets QB Vinny Testaverde has signed a contract to be a backup on the Carolina Panthers.
Testaverde had a chance to sign with the Cardinals, however signed with Carolina because of the proximity to his home base on the East Coast
After failing to sign Testaverde, the Cardinals went out and signed QB Tim Rattay.

It looks as if 43-year-old Vinny Testaverde is going to be back in the fold with the New England Patriots for the 2007 season according to what he recently said on a national radio show. Vinny said Friday that he will be signing a one-year deal to once again be the back-up for Tom Brady and Matt Cassel in New England. Last year he joined the Pats in November, played in three games, going 2-for-3 for 29 yards and a touchdown pass.
“After two-a-days are over, I’ll go back and sign my contract,” Testaverde said Friday on Sporting News Radio. “I’ll wait until then.” The Pats have kept Vinny’s locker in the offseason, so him signing a one-year deal worth the minimum base salary of $820,000 will come as a shock to no one. Vinny was the #1 pick of the Buccaneers back in 1987, and in his career has thrown for 270 TD’s and 261 picks. He has completed 3,639 of 6,259 passes.
According to the Boston Globe, former Jets QB Vinny Testaverde who played as a backup quarterback for the New England last year will return to the Patriots this season.
