I understood that Djourou was returning at the end of a six-month loan spell to Birmingham purely for that reason. It seems now to be a questionable outcome; surely Arsene would not buy in the window in order to obtain cover for a one-month tournament? Maybe he will but I would suspect that there is a long term element to this as well, meaning someone will be leaving in the summer to keep the balance in the squad between those playing and those warming the bench at intermittent intervals.
