      Who were the Vikings?
Vikings-don’t you think the name itself sounds dangerous. It evokes fear in me whenever I read the word. Thoughts on Jared Allen's possible trade to the Vikings
Big news today as the Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed they are shopping star defensive end Jared Allen. The Vikings are thought to be one of the frontrunners - along with Tampa Bay and possibly Jacksonville.Of those teams, the Vikings have the highest first round pick to dangle in front of the Chiefs. And they have the greatest need for a sack specialist, so they should be willing to give the Chiefs what they want.It should be mentioned however, that Allen has a booze problem, notably two outstanding DUIs. This seems very contradictory for a team that Zygi Wilf is trying to assemble that is "accountable for it's actions" and trying to build up the team's character problems that surfaced around the "sex boat scandal". His problems with the law propose more problems than that though. He'd

Buccaneers and Vikings Interested in Allen
Jared Allen, who has publicly stated that he wants out of Kansas City, may soon be getting his wish. Allen became disgruntled with the Chiefs when negations for a long-term contract broke down last year. The Minnesota Vikings and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have both expressed interest in the disgruntled pro-bowl defensive end. Allen, who led the NFL with 15.5 sacks in 2007, had been declared the franchise player by the Chiefs for the 2008 season. Allen is free to sign a contract offer from any franchise. The Chiefs then have the rights to match the offer and retain Allen. Read more...

Viking Wars - The Norse Terror, The Vikings in Britain
The Vikings in Britain, narrated by Brian Blessed."During the long years of the Dark Ages, the sight which signalled fear and terror for the inhabitants of coastal Britain was the first glimpse of an unfamiliar sail on the horizon. The sighting of the famous long ships heralded the arrival of Viking raiders; the harbingers of death and destruction. The wolves of Odin were about to be unleashed again. 'The Norse Raiders', provides a glimpse into the extraordinary world of a remarkable people. Featuring dramatised eye-witness accounts filmed on the holy island of Lindesfarne, the video and powerful reconstructions of Dark Age warfare. Vikings to Eye Two Stud Players This Offseason
What route will the Minnesota Vikings take when it comes to 2008? There seems little doubt that they need impact players on offense to go along with rookie stud at running back Adrian Peterson, who himself could use more talent around him. The St.Paul Pioneer Press’ Charlie Walters is talking about the team looking at two star players that could come right in and upgrade the Vikings offense right away - QB Donovan McNabb or WR Larry Fitzgerald. Both players would come at quite a cost, as each according to Walters would cost the Vikings up to two first-round draft choices. The better fit of the two would be Fitzgerald, as at 31 years old, McNabb is an injury or so away from calling it a career. Look at Steve McNair in Baltimore. He came to the Ravens with a long list of injuries, stayed pretty healthy for a season, and this year has been on the bench more than the field as he has been hurt a ton. That’s why going with Fitzgerald, who is from Minneapolis, would be a bet

Bears are going to watch games at home - Beaten by Vikings
The heat is on during these NFL games that become more intense as Playoffs arrive. This matchup at Minnesota was very exciting, where the Vikings took the victory and clinched the wild card spot on the NFC with a solid 20-13 result.  It was awesome the way Minnesota dominated all the time, maybe because of the homefield advantage, but no doubt there was little the Bears could've done. The Vikings completed last night a 5-game winning streak that they hope to keep going up. Now the dark days when they got beaten up by Green Bay 34-0 are long gone…. and they have advanced so much since then. They could even overcome 4 turnovers! No doubt they're now a good time with chances to get a little big further.  Minnesota's next step will be to face the Redskins, in a breath-taking game that will have implications on any of those 2 for their quest on the Playoffs. They've got Adrian Peterson, and he seems to be their strongest weapon this year. As long as they keep Peterson stron

The Vikings got some bad news today as defensive end Ray Edwards was slapped with a four game suspension for violating the league’s policy against steroids. “It’s disappointing, but there are policies in place and our players have to adhere to those policies,” Vikings coach Brad Childress said. “Every team goes through challenges as you go through the year. We’ve been through some of our own. It’s an opportunity to have others step up.” Edwards was becoming a backup to Erasmus James, but had been a starter for most of the season on the highly ranked Vikings D-line. Rookie Brian Robison and Jayme Mitchell will also be called on to fill in during Edwards’ absence from the team. “I guess we’re taking it about as good as a team can,” Robison said. “We know things happen, and you just have to make sure that when things do happen, you just have to push through it and come together as a team and make sure we kee

Vikings RB Peterson Upgraded to Questionable
The Vikings have made RB Adrian Peterson questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, by definition meaning there is a 50 percent chance he could play two weeks after tearing the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. “It went well this week,” said Peterson, who practiced for the third consecutive day. “It’s a day-to-day thing, so I’ll come in tomorrow and see how it goes.” Reported by Kevin Seifert, Minneapolis Star-Tribune <<<<Hotwire>>>> I have a hard time believing that the Vikings would take such a risk rushing Peterson back for 2 reasons: #1 The team isn’t going to make the playoffs and #2 They have a very good running back in Chester Taylor. Vikings RB Peterson Has Torn Ligament
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will miss Sunday’s game against Oakland with a torn ligament in his right knee, coach Brad Childress said Monday. Childress said Peterson tore his lateral collateral ligament in the Vikings’ 34-0 loss to Green Bay. Peterson will not require surgery, Childress said. “The good news is that the knee is otherwise stable and the injury is isolated to that ligament,” Childress said. “I’m told that’s a good-healing ligament.” Childress said the injury is not a season-ending injury, but he did not talk about when Peterson might be back. “I’m real hesitant to put a timeline on that thing,” Childress said. Reported by Associated Press, ESPN.com <<<<Hotwire>>>> We hope you backed up this work horse with Chester Taylor, who was a 1200 yard back last year. The Idiot File: The Minnesota Vikings Organization...
Ok, this is usually a baseball blog, but I found about this listening to the "Mike & Mike" radio show on may to work in my car, and I was beyond pissed off. The Minnesota Vikings have fined wide receiver Troy Williamson a game's pay (a little over $25,000) for missing last Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers to attend the Monday funeral of his maternal grandmother. I love this excuse, as you have to read what head coach Brad Childress had to say about the situation (From ESPN):Coach Brad Childress told Twin Cities-area media following Thursday's practice that the decision was on a "business principle" of the Vikings organization."He had a family obligation that he had to see to," Childress said. "We sat down and talked on it before he left. ... He had to do what he had to do. Everybody handles that differently. [Williamson] had to do what his family situation called for."Childress cited the cases of two players, Minnesota defensive tackle Pat Williams and Indianapolis wide

      Eagles Beat Vikings 23-16
A Win is a Win:This was not a dominating performance, or a very convincing win by any means. In the end though all that matters is that the Eagles leave Minnesota with a W. They have let a few of those get away this year, and this was a much needed win. At the end of the year nobody asks who you beat, or how bad you beat them, they just ask how many games did you win. At this point the Eagles will take them any way they can get them.Red Zone Improves:The Eagles are scoring touch downs believe it or not.The offense was not great, but much improved in the red zone. Some creative play calling helped out.I loved the shovel pass to Westbrook. They play had great design, and it worked perfectly. Jason Avant lined up in the backfield between Westbrook, and Tapeh. Then Avant motioned to the slot, bringing the Vikings MLB with him. McNabb sold the fake very well, and Westbrook just waltzed into the end zone. Plays that are designed that well, usually tend to work. Give a lot of credit to Andy R

      Vikings Preview
Must Win?:This has been said a lot so far this year. This term gets thrown around a lot, but really a game is never a must win, unless it eliminates you from contention. If the Eagles want to be serious about possibly making the playoffs, then almost every remaining game is a must win. You figure they have to go 7-3 during the remaining ten to do so. Is this possible? Yes it really is. The Birds have to stop stalling in the red zone, and stop giving games away they should have won. Minnesota is a team that a good team should beat.Birds Improved Run D Gets Major Test:One positive of this Eagles season, is the improvements to the defensive front. A run defense that was considered the teams weakness, is now one of the teams strength. Brodrick Bunkley, Takeo Spikes, Omar Gaither, and Chris Gocong are all new starters. They are a huge reason for the run defense being much better. Trent Cole emerging as a premier DE, Jevon Kearse being healthy, and the improved play of Mike Patterson are als

Vikings HC Brad Childress said today that RB Adrian Peterson’s role “will increase as we go through the rest of the football season.” How it will increase is unclear, but before taking questions in his news conference, Childress made a point to address his strategy of rotating Peterson with RB Chester Taylor. “We understand here that we have a great talent in Adrian Peterson,” Childress said, “and we are trying to grow him just like we attempt to grow all of our young guys. I am sure his role will increase…but there will be times and situations where situations will dictate that we have other folks in the football game.” Reported by Judd Zulgad & Kevin Seifert, Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Cowboys Beat Vikings 24-14 to Head Into the Bye 6-1
The Cowboys once again came out with a slow start despite scoring a touchdown, with a Romo pass to Owens, on the opening drive. The Minnesota Vikings were able to answer back with a touchdown of their own tying it up early 7-7. While the Cowboys were able to move the ball very affectively in the first two quarters two fumbles one by Tony Romo and the next by Patrick Crayton left the Cowboys standing losing 14-7 at the end of the half. What was true in the first half of the game couldn’t be further from truth in the second half. The Cowboys didn’t turn the ball over at all in the second half but were unable to move the ball as effectively as they were able to in the first half. Still, the Cowboys were able to put up 17 unanswered points in the second half of the game on a Marion Barber touchdown, a Patrick Watkins Field Goal block returned for a touchdown, and a Nick Folk field goal which was capitalizing off of a Adrian Peterson fumble. It's more of a when he breaks the record against you this Sunday. I really wanted to see Favre break the record, however, to see him do it in the Metrodome will be strangely awesome.I'm also a little afraid. I ask you to reach down underneath that itchy, ugly, purple jersey you're wearing and dig deep down into your heart Sunday. I ask you that you please not boo Brett Favre when he breaks the record. Vikings RB Peterson Durability Concerns?
There was some concern about RB Adrian Peterson’s ability to stay healthy when he left Oklahoma after his junior season. Peterson’s first training camp has not dissuaded anyone from that theory. He missed five practices because of a hip pointer and was held out of some contact drills in three others, presumably to limit the pounding on his left collarbone, which he fractured last October and re-injured in January. Some veterans, including FB Tony Richardson, are advising him that he always will have to play through some pain in the NFL. Peterson is learning that lesson the hard way. Reported by Kevin Seifert, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Sporting News <<<Hotwire>>> Peterson gave us a glimpse of what to expect from him against the Jets when he hauled for 70 yards on 8 carries. He is the top RB out of this year’s rookie class and has all the potential in the world to be an elite back at the NFL level. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that a player j

The Del-Vikings - Come Go With Me (1957)
The story of the Dell-Vikings (or Del Vikings, or Del-Vikings) is one of the most glorious, complicated, and frustrating of any successful doo wop group in music history. With two major national hits ("Come Go With Me" and "Whispering Bells") to their credit -- one more hit than most other successful doo wop groups ever had -- they had a jump on virtually all of their competition. Just as they were ascending those heights of fame and success, however, internal fractures and some greed and misdirected ambition helped destroy any chance they had of making a lasting place for themselves at the top of their profession. They left behind two hits and a large body of very good records that weren't nearly as well-known, as well as a reputation as one of the few successful integrated vocal groups of their era. The group had its origins at the Pittsburgh Air Force Base, where five black enlisted men, Corinthian "Kripp" Johnson (first tenor), Clarence E. Quick (bass), Don Jackson (second tenor),

      Vikings sign draftees Robison, Allison
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings signed defensive end Brian Robison and wide receiver Aundrae Allison on Wednesday. Robison, a fourth-round draft pick from Texas who has a knack for blocking kicks, helped lead the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship as a junior. The Vikings see him as a situational pass rusher and a potential special teams fixture. Allison, chosen in the fifth round out of East Carolina, caught 145 passes — including 11 touchdown receptions — in two more…

Vikings to Buy 4 Blocks Near Dome
The Minnesota Vikings have tentatively agreed to buy four city blocks for $45 million from Avista Capital Partners, owners of the Star Tribune, as part of a broader plan to build a football stadium and develop surrounding land in downtown Minneapolis, the Star-Tribune and sources close to the sale confirmed Thursday. The Vikings, as part of the transaction, would also have a right of first refusal to later buy the newspaper’s longtime main office building, although that block is not included in the sale. Sources close to the negotiations said the sale could be finalized within days but cautioned it could still unravel. Though details were sketchy — both the newspaper and the team declined comment Thursday — the sale would give the Vikings four blocks that mainly have been used by the newspaper for surface parking. But the area also includes another large office building and an older warehouse facility. The four blocks have been seen as critical to Vik

Despite Slow Moving Talks; Vikings Williams Happy with Teams Progress
The Minnesota Vikings had a solid 2006 when it came to defense, and one player that wants to get rewarded for his efforts is 11-year vet Pat Williams.  The 317-pound Williams and the Vikings have been talking about an extension, but according to sources not much in the way of progress has been made for Williams, who enters the last year of a three-year deal in 2007. Last season Williams was a big reason why Minnesota was so tough on defense, as he played in all 16 games, recording 44 total tackles, one sack and two passes defensed.  Not bad for a 6-foot-3 nose tackle.  One person who has the upmost respect for Williams is his coach - Brad Childress, who told the St.Paul Pioneer Press Williams is a solid player.            “Pat knows how I feel about him,” Childress said. “He’s a meat-and-potatoes guy. He’s a no-nonsense guy. He always shows up and puts his money where his mouth is. As coaches, you always appreciate that.”  While Willia

Vikings Get Homerun Hitter with Peterson
Adrain Peterson is the best back in the draft, and this was a great pick by the Minnesota Vikings.  Chester Taylor and Peterson will make a nice 1-2 punch for the Vikings, who with playing indoors at the Metrodome could have a great running game.  Peterson is the home run hitter, can catch the football and could very well be the rookie of the year for the Vikings. The quarterback spot is still iffy with Tavaris Jackson, but the chance to get a 6-1, 200 pound back with the speed of Peterson, there was no way that the Vikings should have passed on him for Brady Quinn.  It is rare in this league to be able to get a back with the type of power and speed that Peterson has.  Now of course there is the chance of a big injury, and his collarbone is a concern, but the upside on Peterson outweighs the injury that Peterson suffered last season.

      David Carr to Vikings?
ProFootBallTalk.com is reporting that the Houston Texans are shopping Quarterback David Carr. They along with other media sources have suggested that the Vikings are very interested. Carr’s career in Houston has been interesting. Since 2002 he has had an overall quarterback rating of 75.0. While his numbers don’t seem overly impressive I believe that he has more talent than he’s been able to show. Since taking over the QB position he has not (until recently) been given the opportunity to give the ball to a playmaker. Couple that with the offensive line’s inability to pass block, I am not one bit surprised that his numbers look the way that they do. On the Vikings he would immediately inherit a above average offensive line, a workhorse runningback. Certainly none of the Vikings receivers can compare to Andre Johnson, the presence of a good line should improve his numbers immensely. I think that Carr could benefit the Vikings in several ways. The first is that he

      Vikings hire defensive coordinator
ESPN is reporting that the Vikings have hired Leslie Frazier to be their new defensive coordinator. Frazier has been a Special Assistant to the Head Coach / Defensive Backs coach for the Super Bowl champion Colts for five years. Hopefully he will carry that winning attitude with him here to Minnesota, and hopefully for us he will stay and not leave only to win a Super Bowl as a head coach with some other team like his old boss Tony Dungy (and maybe someday Mike Tomlin) and former offensive coordinator Brian Billick.ESPN story: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2758757Check out his bio at: http://mirror.colts.com/sub.cfm?page=coachbio&coach_id=29

      The Vikings were not stupid
They say that the Vikings had a saying like this: “Those who know nothing but their home are stupid”. Now, I may not take it that far, but to conquer the world doesn’t sound that bad to me today. After all it’s Monday, it should be ’nuff said. But just to add some juicy stuff to that ’nuff, I throw in a late night and too early morning, resulting in a dentist torture of me (I got a cancelled appointment) and a little nice surprise nauseous for Mr Lifecruiser. Good (?) thing though is that the dentist agreed with me to go on the cheaper (?) filling with plastic instead of porcelain, but it still cost me 750 SEK ($107) for just one tooth filling. On top of that we have lost the warmth weather. It has been snowing and it’s cold. They say that it’s going to continue and even become colder. I don’t like snow and to slip around which makes my back worse. Or to dress in skipants with suspenders looking like a 5 year old kid going out to

      Minnesota Vikings (6-10)
2006 season: 6-10Head Coach: Brad ChildressOffensive Coordinator: Darrell BevellDefensive Coordinator: Mike Tomlin(Head Coach of Pittsburgh now)Pro-Bowl: Steve Hutchinson(OG), Matt Birk(C), Kevin Williams(DT), Pat Williams(DT)OffenseFor many years, the Minnesota Vikings have been known for a high-powered passing offense with big play capabilities. That was not the case this year. With them trading Randy Moss a couple years ago and departing with their Pro-Bowl QB Daunte Culpepper, they were left with Brad Johnson starting at QB and a bunch of busts at WR. Johnson had a bad season only throwing for 2,750 yards and 15 interceptions to go with just 9 touchdowns. The starting job was handed to rookie, Tarvaris Jackson the final two games of the season and was able to throw for 475 yards, 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The Vikings have never been known to have a solid running game, that is until they picked up Chester Taylor in free-agency. Taylor ran for over 1200 yards, 6 touchdowns an
