When Gustav Klimt's 1907 Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer sold for £73m two years ago, becoming the world's most expensive painting, the experts were as baffled as the rest of us. The press choked over the price per square inch - approximately £6,000 - while the auction houses cheered. But everyone else wondered how a Klimt could outsell a van Gogh or conceivably be more valuable than a Rembrandt.1

      Vienna Waits for You
"13 Going on 30" is an underrated movie. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo were wonderfully delightful in this gem. She plays the 13-year old girl who becomes 30 overnight which is a silly over-done premise but the way they tell the story and the performances truly make this a joy to watch. What could've been awful becomes a funny and even touching story thanks to moments like this scene where Jennifer realizes that she doesn't want to be a grown up anymore and wants to be a kid again. Don't we all feel that way sometimes? The song they selected for this sequence was absolutely perfect and makes it a memorable scene. I like when she goes to the house she grew up in and sees her old room. So emotional, especially when she sees her parents. Billy Joel's "Vienna" says it all!

Philippine lanterns illuminate Vienna Advent Festival
VIENNA - The official lighting of lanterns from Pampanga province in the Philippines took place on November 19, 2007 in front of Vienna's City Hall. The San Fernando City government, through the initiative of Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, donated 60 San Fernando lanterns to the Philippine Embassy in Vienna. The lanterns decorate one of 11 trees in the Rathausplatz in the Christkindlmarkt grounds, one of the biggest and most popular Christmas markets in Europe. Hundreds of stalls on the vicinity of the city hall were being installed. The stalls offer European and exotic foods, drinks and a lot of Christmas souvenirs. Indeed, it was a "tiangge"-like atmosphere. The Vienna Christkindlmarkt runs for six weeks from the third weekend of November to Christmas Day. It attracts an estimated three million tourists from Austria and neighboring countries. The simultaneous lighting of the Philippine lanterns was officiated by Ambassador Linglingay Lacanlale and Dr. Elisabeth Vitouch from the Vienna city

      Why Berlin and Vienna
I kid you not when I say two of the places that are in our must-visit list are Berlin and Vienna. I am just in awe about the cultural attractions and the people on these two European destinations.Berlin is one of Europe's most vibrant, exciting and ever evolving capitals. Wherever you go, you feel a certain kind of vibe as you can see in the art galleries, the boulevards, flea markets and bars, restaurants and clubs that are open round the clock. Seeing the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra would be such an awesome experience. Hotels in Berlin are aplenty. Each of them have something unique to offer to different types of travellers and guests. The Adlon Hotel is one of the hotels in Berlin that caught my attention while browsing online. There's some kind of magical spell even just by looking at the hotel's structure.Vienna on the other hand, has it's own unique character with its imposing architecture and landscape and is the capital of Austria. They are well known for their coffee hou

David Coulthard To Open New Highway Between Vienna And Bratislava
After years of waiting the missing 22 km of highway linking Austrian capital Vienna with Slovakian border and Slovakian capital Bratislava - the A6 highway - will be officially opened this month. The Slovak media brought information that the first one to drive on the highway will be David Coulthard in his Red Bull Formula 1 car. The grand opening show should be held on November 18, 2007, a day ahead of the officila opening of the new highway. As a part of the program Coulthard is expected to drive his Red Bull at speeds around 320km/h. That would probably be the highest speed ever recorded on Austrian highways. Even Milan Baros and his Ferrari Spider would not be able to match that. Earlier this year, in June, David Coulthard opened the highway tunnel in Bratislava. You may check these 2 older posts for more info and some videos from that event. Vienna, the Hollmann Beletage
Looking for the Hollman Beletage Hotel? Do we have the right address? you may ask yourself as you head down Köllnerhofgasse, a short street about five minutes walk from St Stephen’s Cathedral. You stop at the entrance to a grand old apartment building and enter a secret code which opens the heavy door. Once inside, your eyes wander around the cavernous hallway, which looks little changed from the late Imperial era.

Road "Vista to Vienna", begins from Mini Kernel...
Sounds too cryptic? First of all my apologies for my absence for over 100 days, my life shifted gears as I am now a Software Engg. in Bosch. So was busy with the new seat.Anyway, let me unlock the riddle. Most of you know that Vista is the latest buzzword in the desktop market (I agree it was a damp release). Now, the successor of Windows XP, took almost half a decade to hatch out, after a bunch release dates and revises, when it did come out, it was not really welcomed as hyped by the market. All this is history. Vista is already there, what next? Oh, the Vista Service Pack v1? That will be out in an year, don't bother about that, nothing really hot in that to fill up a whole article. So, Vienna? Yeah, Vienna is the successor of Vista, to be more precise, it is now called Windows Se

Gates of Vienna: 2008 Counterjihad Calendar
Baron Bodissey and the crew at Gates of Vienna blog have declared their project the Counterjihad Calendar for 2008 is done. You can buy your own copy of the calendar from the Gates of Vienna storefront or directly at this link. The purpose of the calendar is twofold: 1. To enhance a sense of community among the inhabitants of the countries of the West. We can show solidarity with one another even as we remain nationalists within our own countries. The West doesn’t require an artificial and corrupt empire like the EU or the UN to maintain its collective identity. There is something that binds us together, a common heritage that enables us to resist Islamization. 2. To facilitate a greater awareness of the struggle we are all facing and how it is approached in different countries, by listing counterjihad blogs and websites on the sidebar for each country. Sites outside of the Anglosphere often post at least some of their articles in English, and, if they don’t, machine transla

      Graco Vienna Travel System
Picking out a stroller/car seat (aka travel system) is a little overwhelming for a new parent-to-be. When my husband and I went test-stroller driving at the local Babies R Us, we had no idea what we were looking for. My Mom gave me a very important piece of advice: make sure you can open and close the stroller with one hand. As far as the car seat goes, well all baby car seats pretty much look and weigh the same. We ended up going with the Graco Vienna Travel System. They still make this stroller, however the color we have has been discontinued. When we got the travel system, I wanted to put it together right away. Unfortunately, I could not do this on my own. I remember that the wheels were really hard to get on and I had to ask my husband to help (I was determined to put it together all by myself). We ended up really liking the car seat and sort of liking the stroller. The car seat fit great in our car and was super snug and safe. If you go with this product and have two

      Vienna
The woman at the far side of the room got up and walked over to see what I was doing. My chair was pushed back, and I was leaning over a restaurant table trying to figure out how to attach Alleke's portable high chair. The woman bent over and looked under the table. "I don't think that's going to work," she said. "Why don't you have my table?" She pointed to where she had been sitting at a small table with a red and white checkered table cloth, a glass of wine, and an open newspaper. "Thank you," April said. The woman smiled, and we followed her to her table. She said a few words in German to the customers sitting at the next table, then moved her things to their table. "I think this is better for you," she said. She smiled again and took a seat at the next table.I fastened the high chair to the end of the table, put Alleke in it, and sat down to look at the menu. I flipped through the laminated pages and decided on a stew with dumplings. Alleke sat next to me, kicking her le

      travel from vienna to berlin
My good friend, Tracy, just told yesterday that she might be making a trip to Germany again this November - lucky her! I've never to Germany and would definitely like to make a trip someday.. I'm a travel freak :) I have heard about the high cost of living in Europe so I better be making enough money to make my vacation an enjoyable one. There are many flights to Berlin and if you are in Vienna, Lufthansa takes you there from 168euros depending on season and flight schedule. There are other cheaper alternatives with low cost airlines such as Air Berlin, Germanwings and Sky Europe which requires some necessary transfers via the SkyShuttle bus. It all depends on your budget. Cheaper air travels may save you some money for better hotels in Vienna or Berlin. In Berlin, a budget hotel may only cost 10 euros with 5 star hotels starting at 100+ euros. Be expected to pay more for hotels in better location, amenities and features. Vienna hotels are cheaper compared to the ones in Berlin with

      Windows Vienna / 7, re-codenamed Windows Mesa ???
Ever since the last quarter of 2006, when a survey was held on a Microsoft web site, where one of the questions towards the end of the survey was "Have you ever heard of Windows Mesa?", the question itself and the answer to it, has foxed many! But it appears that codename "Vienna" (Blackcomb/Windows7) will be/has been re-codenamed as Windows MESA in its 5th phase of development. Is this true ? Your guess is as good as mine; but searching carefully...very carefully can give one that impression. But then, what's in a name !? First Blackcomb; then Vienna, then Windows7 & now (?)Mesa(?). Why Windows 7? Vista is Windows 6, hence the next generically reffered to as Windows 7 ! ...Incidentally, this next OS (irrespective of the codename) was originally timelined 2011, Latest reports indicate

      Windows 7 “Vienna”
