      little victories
When I weighed 115 pounds, the world thought I was hot. Well, maybe not my closest friends and family, but believe me, the rest of society approved. I looked like I had it all under control, like those vixens in 1980s cigarette ads, collected and desirable and Kool. It didn’t matter that I was sticking [...]

      Small Victories are Still Victories
Today I had a minor victory for my department. We had another meeting today, and the design goals and vision of our website has changed drastically. Seriously, it's different now.I'm no longer the head of design at work.I am no longer anything but a tech worker. The company decides what direction to go in, and myself and my crew just say yes and do what they ask. We do not create anything "designed" well, and we do not use our talents and skills to the utmost of our abilities.Instead, we are yes men. In fact, all tech workers are just yes men. We just say yes, and we do our thing. If the company I work for, didn't pay me what they pay me, I would have quit a long time ago. In fact, I'm considering my next move now, because the company I work for does everything backwards. They don't do anyth

CL Update: Man U, Arse, Real, Can Clinch Knockout Stage Births With Victories
Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal all "control their own destiny" in their UEFA Champions League groups and can clinch spots in the knockout stage with wins this week. Marseille, Roma, Chelsea, Sevilla and either Barca or Rangers can join them if they win their games and have another result go their way:Arsenal advance if they beat Slavia Prague (what are the chances of that?) because they would then a lead of at least seven points over the third place team with two games remaining.Man U are in an identical predicament (first place, nine points from three games and a three point lead over the second-placed team in the group) and advance with a victory over Dynamo Kiev tomorrow.Real advance if they win at Olympiakos because that automatically gives them the tie breaker over the Greek club (Real won their first meeting). The other two teams in the group, Lazio and Bremen, play each other today and are far enough off the pace that only one of them can pass Real if the Spanish clu

Teams are no longer home free for victories
By Greg Dohmann, USA TODAY Fans in the Los Angeles Coliseum watched in disbelief Saturday as then-No. 1 Southern California surrendered a fourth-quarter lead to fall to Stanford 24-23, ending a 35-game home winning streak that nearly encompassed the entire tenure of coach Pete Carroll. But while the Trojans have been unbeatable at home since 2001, when the streak began following another loss to Stanford, the same cannot be said for the rest of Division I-A (now Football Bowl Subdivision). Few visit scene of one of Hitler’s greatest victories
A small band of paratroopers mounts a daring assault on a vast underground fortress. Swooping down silently in gliders, they disable its big guns with secret weapons and compel the 1,300-man garrison to surrender in short shrift. Sounds like the implausible plot of a Hollywood action movie? In fact, it’s exactly what happened on May 10, 1940, to Fort Eben Emael, one of the world’s largest and most powerful fortifications which Allied war planners counted on to halt the German attack on Western Europe. LeBron James Continues Playoff Victories
LeBron James and the Cavs have been nothing less than hot while playing during the playoff series and with the Nets now defeated LeBron James has set his sights on silencing the Pistons. It's amazing to think that the last time that the Cavs had made it this far in the NBA playoffs was when LeBron James was nothing more than a little seven year old boy who had dreams of playing with the pros. But what is it going to take for the Cavs to reach the NBA Playoffs? LeBron James will need to communicate with his team and keep the ball moving on offense. With so much momentum from the Net victory don't be surprised to see some signature LeBron James dunks to get the crowd riled up. We will have to wait and see what game 1 of the Eastern Finals has to offer.

      C.C.: Candidate For 15-Plus Victories
Indians SP C.C. Sabathia earned his first spring win Sunday against the Dodgers. He worked five innings, allowing four hits, one walk and no earned runs. He also had two strikeouts. Sabathia now has a 3.21 ERA through four spring starts totaling 14 innings. He also has 10 strikeouts. Sabathia will be 28 in 2008 and the hefty lefty ace has the potential to be overlooked on Draft Day. His great WHIP makes him a Rotisserie beast, while the Indians' offense should help make them a contender and Sabathia a candidate for 15-plus victories. Source: CBS SportsLine.com

LA Times: Troops score small victories
This is a nice story on a number of different levels. It's good to hear directly from the troops that more face to face contact with Iraqi civilians is working. It's good to see that the Iraqi's might be getting to trust us a bit more. If they watch American news it must be terrifying for them to think we might cut and run at any second. And It's especially good to see the press actually printing some good news about the military for a change. Yes, there was a few small swipes by the journalist but overall I would consider it a very positive piece. It's disheartening to think that we have spent the last three years hunkered down inside fortified locations taking incoming and IED's anytime we left the bases rather than directly interacting with good Iraqis on the streets willing to help us help them. I can understand commanders deciding to pull the troops back inside "safe" bases rather than leaving them as targets on the streets but when they are all gathered in set
