It’s not often these days, but when I do have a little bit of time to myself in studio I usually like to experiment with lighting and different ideas that I have. Most often, or so it seems, my victim of choice is my assistant: Victor.
Sometimes I think being a photographer is like being an older brother, when I can take my assistant and use him for my experiments… and he can’t really complain about it.
Anyhow, before I digress too far away! The point of that day was to bend the rules of the Bokeh effect and see if I could break them. I didn’t quite succeed as technically my subject in the background should have been so blurry it would only be circles… oh, well another day, another experiment! But, it’s not to say I’m unhappy with the results!
I posted, the final result in this post but I was going through my archives today and saw the rest of the shoot and thought I’d share a bit more.

Víctor Valdés Arribas (born 14 January 1982 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), nicknamed Víctor, is a Spanish football goalkeeper, who currently plays for FC Barcelona of the Spanish La Liga. Before joining the principal team in 2002/03 season, Víctor played for the youth teams and Barca B. Currently, he has a contract with Barcelona until 2010. Valdes started his career with Barca's youth team when he joined from Peña Cinco Copas on 1 July 1992. But in September, he moved with his family to Tenerife and had to leave the club, rejoining only three years later. After returning, he made quick progress through the youth system and was made part of the senior squad in the 2002-03 season. The early part of the season saw him play deputy to Argentine international Roberto Bonano. The arrival of Radomir Antic as the new coach saw regular first team opportunities for him.
Victor is a Viszla/Cachshund mix. He weighs about 25 lbs, is 1.5 years old and is neutered.Victor loves life and other dogs, people, treats, toys and just about anything else you can think of. Although his foster peeps are not sure he is good with cats. Even though part of his mix is from a breed with a high energy level, he probably will not require the exercise needs of a vizsla and he is not over-exuberant for a young dog.He should work out well for almost any family or person that are not looking for a “couch potato” dog. Victor has such a nice personality that he will make someone a really great pet since he also loves to sit in laps and receive some calm attention.Currently Victor is being cared for by a foster home associated with the Animal Placement Bureau in Lansing Michigan. Au CNAC Georges Pompidou, une exposition sur deux cinéastes contemporains nés tous deux en 1940, dont l’un (Victor Erice) est espagnol et l’autre (Abbas Kiarostami) iranien. Le choix des commissaires a été de laisser le visiteur libre de commencer sa visite par un parcours tournant autour de l’un ou de l’autre des deux personnages, étant entendu qu’au centre de l’exposition, les deux parcours se rejoignent et s’entremêlent dans une série de “correspondances”, petits films que les deux hommes ont tourné en pensant l’un à l’autre, dans la perspective de cette exposition.
C’était certainement une gageure que de vouloir consacrer une exposition à deux cinéastes, dont l’oeuvre fondamentale se projette sur les écrans et ne s’accroche pas aux murs. Et en dépit de la mise en scène à base de noir et de couleurs fluos, le pari n’est pas entièrement relevé : on connaît mieux à la fin
