Every beauty girl worth her weight in lip balm knows the potential consequences (a few that come to mind are premature aging and skin cancer) that come with sunscreen skimping. Problem is, while we’re super-diligent about applying our SPF pre-espresso, we often balk at the thought of round two by lunch. Layering white liquid over creamy blushes and gilded eyeshadows conjures up an image of a cir

The education council of the regional government of Catalonia has forced a state school in Girona to admit [Shaima, a seven-year-old Moroccan girl] to participate in lessons. The girl, who refused to remove her veil, had been missing school for over a week. The mother, Noama, affirms that the decision to wear the hidjab, the scarf which leaves the face uncovered, is not due to family pressures. “Shaima did everything alone,” she says in one of many interviews, “the child has grown up until last year in Morocco with the paternal grandmother, from whom she took her religious habits.” […]But the public opinion does not seem to agree: according to the on-line survey launched by El Pais on the case of little Shaima, 76% of the Spanish believe that the use of religious symbols in class should be forbidden, while 24% are in favour.

Then there is this, this, (oh, it would be funny if it was ironic) commentary. They're serious. Alarmingly serious. A mermaid veiled. Lord. My understanding is it's not the first time. We're well past the point of the proverbial canary's death, but still don't seem to get it. Hitch lays it out in Vanity Fair. Britain's terrorists, the clueless "leaders", the arrogant and anti-Semitic imams.Baby's still got a fever on and off. It's made for rough nights...

The Hill: Veiled lobbyists give $700,000Excerpt:"White House hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) brought in $168,000 from K Street in first-quarter fundraising, according to a campaign-finance watchdog. Yet none of her contributors identified themselves as lobbyists, instead listing their profession as attorney, company president or other titles that, while accurate, distance donors from the lobbying world.Of all 2008 hopefuls, Clinton leads in contributions by employees of lobby firms, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a watchdog group. By contrast, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) leads in contributions from self-identified lobbyists, as per PoliticalMoneyLine.com."http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/veiled-lobbyists-give-700000-2007-04-18.htmlAlex
Manchester Evening News via Dhimmi Watch:A MUSLIM woman was prevented from getting on a bus in Greater Manchester because she would not remove her veil. The 22-year-old Manchester University student from Oldham says other passengers laughed when the driver refused to let her on because he could not check her identity with her bus pass. Now the driver's bosses at First Manchester are to meet with their trade association, the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), to seek advice on how to deal with the problem if other passengers with photo passes refuse to lift their veils. They say they have received no complaint from the woman and have been unable to track down the driver concerned. The student, who didn't want to be named, tried to board the 59 bus to Oldham. She said: "The driver asked to see my pass, but it has my photo on and he couldn't see my face. "I told him I would not remove my veil and he said I couldn't get on."
