In recent months, soaring gas prices have led area residents to begin trading in their large vehicles for more fuel-efficient cars and motorcycles.
One such person is Aaron Johnston, a technician at Performance Motor Sports who owns a Bronco truck. He says the truck got seven miles to the gallon and he usually spent more than $300 a month on gas.
That changed when Johnston bought a Suzuki DR 350 motorcycle. He says he now gets 52 mpg on his bike.

The battery-powered Think City will be able to travel up to 110 miles on a single charge, with a top speed of about 65 mph, the company said. It will be priced below $25,000.

DETROIT — The Nissan Motor Company said Monday that it would make a new small car designed by a rival Chrysler and that Chrysler would make a full-size pickup truck designed by Nissan.
Both products will be sold in North America, and the new Chrysler small car will also be sold in Europe and other global markets starting in 2010.
The new Chrysler small car will be made at Nissan’s Oppama plant in Japan. Chrysler will make the pickup truck at its plant in Saltillo, Mexico, and it will go on sale in 2011, the companies said.
To make room to build the Nissan pickup in Saltillo, Chrysler will shift production of its pickup trucks to plants in the United States, the companies said in a statement.

SACRAMENTO – California’s air-quality regulators may wish to lay to rest the legend of who killed the electric car.But a proposal going before the Air Resources Board on Thursday fails to sway critics convinced that the state continues to retreat from its once-lofty goal of seeing thousands of electric cars on the roadways.
“They’re backing down,” said Bill Hammons, president of the Electric Vehicle Association of San Diego. “It’s a total collapse.”

Speaking at the New York Auto Show, Lutz said, "Ultimately by 2020 we figure that 80 percent of vehicles will require some sort of hybridization," because of new U.S. fuel- economy standards. "We cannot get to 35 miles per gallon with anything resembling the current product portfolio with anything resembling current technology."In a Bloomberg News report yesterday, Lutz targeted the percentage of hybrid sales to approximately 30 percent by 2015. “Around 2015 we're going to have to sell a ton of hybrids whether people want them or not."
