And while it’s essentially an evolution of the old Epsilon1 platform, there’s nothing evolutionary about the Insignia’s styling. Not only has Vauxhall dropped the name of its existing family model, but the Insignia bears little resemblance to the car it replaces. Mark Adams, GM’s European design boss, said: “

Geneva Motor Show 2008 Preview: Opel/Vauxhall Meriva Concept rendered
We've already seen a rough sketch of the new Meriva concept from Opel/Vauxhall, but after a rendered image began leaking out onto the interwebs this week, GM's European division decided to put out a new image and a more extensive press release. The Meriva concept, set to make its debut in Geneva early next month, is being touted by GM as the future of flexibility and practicality. The automaker is heavily pitching the Meriva's major innovation dubbed FlexDoors, which are what we've all come to know and love as "suicide doors." The rear-hinged back doors supposedly offer easier ingress and egress, better aesthetics and greater safety for the little ones when you're strapping them down in thier child seats. Cool, but hardly what we'd consider truly innovative. We'll let you know how innovati

Vauxhall - Meriva and Zafira - Clever Family Cars
Oh yes! The Boys are back in town - or back at the beach at least. As this advert seems to be on at least twice every ad break, I’m sure you’ve seen it. But just in case you haven’t here’s an overview. It’s the classic TV advert set-up - Johnny Vegas’ kids are on holiday, they’ve brought their parents, they’re pretending to be patronising old fuckers, they fall asleep. Magic. Maybe you could say this advert’s pretty poor because it says very little about the cars (other than families can fit stuff in them) but what I hate most is the way they’ve pushed the kids to behave like adults. Why can’t we just let kids be kids? “Ooh look at those too pretending to be all grown up. Isn’t it cute?” Give me a break. And give them a chance to be kids and enjoy life before they actually have to worry about whether someone’s had “too many fizzy drinks”. Velvet have got it right. A kid in an adult

      Vauxhall - Eco Flex
The whole world is going green. Well, except maybe for the US and India and China and really, let’s face it, the UK. So maybe I should start again, the whole world isn’t going green but we’re doing a bit of recycling. We love recycling because it makes us feel like we’re saving the planet (a laudable task) but in reality it’s all a sham. If we had to turn our TVs and computers off for an hour every day (between say 7 and 8 at night), to reduce the amount of electricity we use and maybe really help save the planet we’d say “Fuck that!”. So we’re all pretending that we’ve gone green whilst watching Corrie and writing blogs as the planet chokes (according to some folks). Vauxhall have jumped on this pretence in their latest advertising campaign. Their new Eco Flex initiative offers us middle class mugs “…a £1,000 bonus for… …trading in a car, which is then scrapped, in exchange for the lowest emissio

Vauxhall Corsa - C’Mon Out of Bed
Sticking with the car theme, here’s the latest advert from Vauxhall for their Corsa: Every time I see one of these adverts I think to myself: “God, I’m so not in the demographic they’re targeting here”. There’s a couple of reasons for this thought: Firstly, whenever I hear Sean Paul singing, regardless of the words, all I hear is “Mr Lover, Lover. Hmmmm”. Yes, to me at least, Sean Paul is the current Shaggy. And that’s not a good thing, kids. Secondly, the adverts feature a fictional *band* of puppets (NB: I don’t think the word ‘fictional’ was strictly necessary there but I added it for complete clarity) called the C’Mons. But unless they is Muppets, puppets is whack. In my vain attempts to be in the mind set of the target demograph I think these words:”So you’re doing a little puppetry, huh? That’s whack! Puppetry is whack! ‘Sup with the whack puppetry, ‘sup?! Huh? Come on, am I 19 or wh

      2008 Vauxhall VXR8
Motoring enthusiasts across Britain mourned the passing of the Monaro. The only Australian-built car to be sold in the UK offered raw and exciting performance thanks to its 6.0-liter V8 and rear-wheel drive set up.But the thunder from down under hasn’t stopped yet – in fact it’s only going to get louder. Vauxhall has announced the arrival of a new Aussie musclecar – the VXR8 – and it’s more powerful and exciting than even the legendary Monaro. The dramatic-looking new saloon is powered by the same 6.0-liter V8 as the outgoing Monaro VXR, but revisions to the engine have made it even more efficient. It now develops a massive 420 bhp and 406 lb-ft of torque, giving it enough grunt to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. No other supercar offers this sort of power for anywhere near the VXR8’s price.Yet the VXR8, based on Australia ’s Holden HSV Clubsport R8, offers more in the way of practicality than the outgoing Monaro, with four doors and space for all the family.Al

      2007 Vauxhall VXR8 (UK)
We all know that General Motors plans to sell the Australian built Holden Commodore sedan as a rebadged Pontiac in the US, but what we didn't know is that its UK division, Vauxhall, will be offering the high-performance HSV Clubsport R8 variant as its new VRX8. HSV is an acronym for Holden Special Vehicles, a tuning company that specialises in modifying V8 Commodore sedans, and now its latest E-series Clubsport will be hitting showrooms in the UK.The new model features the same 6.0L LS2 V8 engine shared with the Corvette, developing a very healthy 420hp and 550Nm of torque. Expect the 0-100km/h sprint to take just 4.9 seconds for the conventional six-speed manual. A performance bargain at just £34,995. For an extra £1,400, customers can opt for a new six-speed automatic with manual mode that's just half a second slower to reach 100km/h than the manual.
