Korra Biyam Dosa or Fox Millet Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
I know my mind is still thinking of Rotis, but here comes a dosa for a change. Of course, the availability of this grain is quite limited. Still its an excellent replacement for regular rice. As I have already posted couple of dishes made from this Korra Biyam or the Fox Millet as it might be called, I thought this dosa made from it would be the most apt one to make on a regular basis.Since Korra

Carrot Masala Dosa, Paneer Cheese Pizza Dosa, Egg Dosa and Paneer Butter Masala on Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
Ok I think this will be my last post on dosas. Not that I have had enough of them. Believe me, in my dictionary there is no such word like No for Dosas. But I have to consider my family too right. Every other day, they are subjected to different versions and each one is highly treated with great expectations of the end result. Let me tell you one thing, all the different varieties that I have tried have all turned out to be simply delicious! I come to the conclusion that anything and everything on or in the dosa, will taste great! For the record, I have posted 28 dosas till date and about 13 after the mela announcement. I feel bad that I couldn't make more. But then of course, I now have so many varieties to try and make it 101 varieties! Coming to these varieties, I finally did what I was

Coconut Dosa and Mixed Dal Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
I was leafing through my book and my eyes fell on a pristine white looking dosa called Coconut Dosa. I was intrigued and rushed ahead to read the proportions. It was with sweet stuffing and I knew there may not be any takers for this sweet type of a pancake at home. Still I was very much keen on attempting it atleast once. Then I moved on to others. Since only dosas are running around my mind off late, I happily forgot all about this Coconut Dosa and its proportions. Though everytime I open my book, that picture calls out pleadingly to me!Two days back, I was chatting with a dear friend of mine. Priya is a regular reader of this blog and in due course, we happened to chat and we hit on fast. She mentioned that she was happy reading through all the varieties of dosas and said, had she had a

Aloo Dosa or Potato Dosa and Mini Dosas ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
Well, its going to be exactly one more week for the mela deadline and I am actually wondering if I will be able to cook and post all the different dosas that I had planned. It was going to be 3 dosa posts every week, but I find quite hard. Coming to the varieties, I am yet to get most of the planned ones. But I wanted to get those requested ones to be on the list, atleast! Nirmala suggested I make one Paneer B.Masala Dosa and I replied that I planned for it too. But I am yet to get that done. Just last evening I made Paneer B Masala, after a week's pester from Konda. I still have some left in the fridge. Though I try never store anything for second serving, this is one exceptional dish, pun intended! The other day, hubby said I should try storing shop made Paneer, as I get this requested at

Rava Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
There is something about Rava Dosa that pulls my heart strings in many ways. This has been my most favorite tiffin items that I would want to order in a hotel. Most times, it would not be available as its so popular!. If Amma had a challenge to conquer, it was Rava Dosa. And she did try many times to get the perfect Rave Dosa. Finally she was able to come up with the correct proportions to get that restaurant style, thin crispy and tasty Rave Dosas. Even if I have make this for breakfast, I normally had Amma prepare the batter and give me. So I was really happy to take up this challenge that I took up last week and yes, the results were great.Since this requires soaking just a little while just before preparing, I found this very comfortable.Things at home have been following a steady tren

Having announced a Dosa Mela, its only fair I attest my freakishness by displaying the wares, so as to say! I know I am foodie, think so and act so in all cases. But since announcing this Mela, there isn't anything else that's going on my mind. I find myself constantly scoring my books for different types and the quest is never ending, I find. I thought I will get all my known varieties in place and then look out for new ones. And this is where hubby played spoiled sport. One of the common and most liked one at home is Egg Dosa or Mutta Dosa, that Amma makes and which I have been making too. Since I don't eat egg, I got to make it for hubby. And now he is refusing to eat that, as cooking an egg on heat is going to rob its protein and we don't want that, right! He wants to have only boiled

Spiced Masala Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
Sometimes you get great pleasures from simple things or almost castaway stuffs. The sour idli or dosa batter you might find in your fridge on a weekend is almost like this. What do you do with that? At Amma's place, she has a never ending supply of idli and dosa batter always, ready for anytime. She has them stocked on all days, grinds new batches almost on alternative days. Those days with so many adults and many helps at home, she always felt the need to have the batter ready. She never would send a person away without a tiffin served and in those times, the stored batter comes handy. And on top, a toddler's fancy has to be met. Spinach Masala Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
We normally use palak or Spinach as Palak Paneer or mostly make Palak Dal. But when I saw this dosa variety calling for a Palak, I was wishfully wondering if it will be liked. Sometime earlier, Athamma used to grow Palak in our backyard. Whenever we feel we don't know what to prepare, she used to go check out the veins and come back with fresh Spinach leaves. It will then find itself emerging as a Dal. Palak Dal tastes great, it goes well with both Rice and Roti. So I was very apprehensive about masking in a Dosa batter. But I was ready for this, as my experiments with a new dish rarely goes wrong, excepting my flop yesterday. I set out to make Ambur Mutton Biryani but was so disappointed that it didn't come out well. It looked great and all, except it lacked the spice and whatever makes t

I forgot that college was waiting or that I had a hectic time ahead. I forgot everything and just kept looking at those snowy white beauties. In wonder asked Amma what has gone into them. She said she used Atukulu! Well, Atukulu are something we have eaten only for Krishna Jayanthi. Only recently we have discovered the wonders one can enjoy with the humble Poha. I have confessed my addiction to Dosas in my dear blog, many a sunny posts. But I guess, I have never really tried to proclaim the love I have for Pizzas. Its just like those yummy dishes which you just visualize, with a wink of an eye and the whole panorama becomes real in your eyeball. When I think of Pizza, all I need to do is same. And I get all worked up. I never indulged in that exercise, for the simple reason that I will not really be able to get that in real. Mike and Ike Review Roundup - Five Varieties
As a hardcore Candy Addict, I consumed a good deal of candy during my childhood. My mother even packed full-size candy bars in my sack lunches! Mysteriously, Mike and Ike candies were absent from my candy-eating repertoire. I wasn’t exactly sure why, since I did like candies in the jellybean category. Well, I recently had the honor of reviewing five selections of Mike and Ike candies, and I think I know why. The five kinds of Mike and Ike candies included Original Fruits, Berry Blast, Tropical Typhoon, Tangy Twister, and Lemonade Blends (which is due to be released nationwide in the summer of 2008). We’ll start with the bad then work up to the good, okay? Mike and Ike Original Fruits: If these are the original flavors, I can see why I bypassed these during my childhood. Talk about bland city! The flavors aren’t listed on the package, and I certainly couldn’t tell what the flavors were from eating the candies, but there were pictures of some fruits, so these a

Tomato Dosa ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
Planning for a breakfast becomes difficult if your folks ask for variety every morning. But that was a condition sometime back. Now with our hectic schedules, hubby dear is ok with anything as long as its healthy. But Konda fusses if I make her dosa everyday for breakfast. Its a separate issue that what ever it is, I got to feed her, except for Bread Pizza. So I try to make that atleast once a week so that she eats it herself. And Idlies more than two times a week, meets objection too. So I am left with a challenge that I want to make interesting dishes which are quick and yet tasty to eat. Amma used to make a variety of Dosas to meet the demands of variety everyday. So when Athamma said she is going to soak Moong Dal for Pesarattu, I said I want to make something else. We decided we are going to include moong dal more in our diet. So we eat sprouts and generally plan for Pesarattu. But this Tomato Dosa I had been planning for quite sometime. Dosa of this kind and that ~ 101 Dosa Varieties!
Dosas are my favorite! I think I have spoken enough on this that I need not say much. Still if I got to elaborate, I can talk endless on Dosas and what it does to me. For quite a long period, when parottas were not really introduced to me, I always used to order Dosa in a restaurant. Dad used to ask why I would want to order dosa when every other day it is for breakfast at home. Still I never used fail in my taste. This continued to be my standard order until I started loving Parotta. How many ever times you make at home, still the aroma of a dosa on a tawa is incomparable. The earliest memories of Dosa on tawa must be during my childhood days. During summer vacation while in school, we used to visit ammamma's house. Our stays were never longer than 3 to 4 days, so we used to enjoy the maximum possible. My mom's family is a big one with 6 sisters and a brother. During that time, most of them were not married and hence all were at home. We all used to sleep in the terrace and we kids u

      Personal upheavals of multiple varieties
I was in my early teens, a couple years from graduating high school. It had been a typical day around house so far, nothing to do other than the laundry. As I headed upstairs from the basement a searing pain suddenly clenched my chest and seemed to twist it around my spine. My throat burned and tightened. I dropped to my knees and fell to the floor, tense with pain, terrified that I was dying of cardiac arrest. The sensation passed after about five minutes and everything seemed normal. I didn’t mention the incident to anyone, just dismissed it as indigestion. It was the second semester of freshman year in college and I was grabbing a quick lunch in the cafeteria in between classes. I had introduced myself to a guy sitting alone – freshmen are outgoing like that – and he offered me a s

Pleasures of the guilty and not-so-guilty varieties
Last night I watched the last episode of the TV series, The OC and afterward, felt is was time for a more personal diary-like post here on Alt Text; a post where I get to provide a bit of a window into my soul, however embarrassing that may be. It has been a while and that isn't good. Yesterday, I was quite surprised to hear that the series was ending. Not only that, but the series finale was on that night. Now, I haven't watched The OC in a while - at least two or three seasons - but I will admit that it made its way into, an albeit guilty, region of my heart. Yes, despite being the type of cheesy, teen drama that I so often ridiculed I couldn't stop myself from caring about these (mostly) rich Orange County residents, many with very few redeeming qualities. I could try to play it cool now and say that I like the show for the hot girls and great soundtrack* , but the truth is, it was more than that. Mind you not much more, but in almost every episode I saw, there were moments of
