Vaccinations: 'The potential implications for autism...are staggering'
From: Innoculated Against Facts (Secret Science)   "There is no greater rancor in medicine than the autism-vaccine debate, and this debate has reached the federal vaccine court where 5000 autistic kids and their families are requesting compensation for vaccine injury," said Jeffrey Dach MDIn the aftermath of the government concession in a lawsuit brought by the parents of Hannah Poling, a child who following vaccination developed autism, public awareness was heightened as the potential dangers posed by vaccines for some children, is being openly discussed. The debate is in full swing, notwithstanding the brigade of denialists, most prominent among these, Dr. Paul Offit, co-inventor of Merck's rotavirus vaccine, and Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the U.S. Centers for Disea

Dog VaccinationsBy Evangeline Samuel Kate, my ‘grandpuppy’ went to see the Veterinarian today. This was her regular checkup and time for her vaccinations. Both her human parents went with her and she was a trooper. She hardly even notices when the doctor takes blood or gives her the vaccination. The Veterinarian is really very kind and [...]

Product Review: Dr. Jay Gordon’s DVD - Vaccinations? Assessing the Risks and Benefits
Safbaby is excited to tell you about “Vaccinations? Assessing the Risks and Benefits” a DVD by Dr. Jay Gordon. Why? Because as I watched Larry King Live tonight, I participated in the quick vote which polled the question if vaccines cause and contribute to autism. Shockingly 82% of the polled population said, “Yes.” That [...]

The Battle Between Emotion and Logic Regarding Vaccinations
I consider myself lucky that my children don't go to the doctor very often. I can count on one hand the number of times we've taken either of them to the doctor for something other than a routine well-child check. Of course, I've probably jinxed myself now, and will endure a long string of ear infections, cuts and strange rashes as a punishment for bragging about that. But even the well-child visits are stressful for me. Cordy's visits always start with a full-blown meltdown because she is terrified of the doctor's office. Thankfully, those are only once a year now. For Mira, however, my stress results from the mental preparation of what will happen with each visit.I took Mira to the pediatrician for her nine month check-up the other day. The first part of the exam went relatively well: 20

Are All Those Pet Vaccinations Really Necessary?
Would you like to save money and have a healthier pet? Let me tell you a story. One day, my German Shepherd was asleep, as usual, when he suddenly started convulsing so intensely that I thought he must be dying. It went on for a few minutes, which seemed like forever. After, I couldn’t believe he was OK. It turned out to be a seizure, and it was then that I began to learn about alternative medicine for pets. The most interesting thing I found out was that vaccinations seem to be a main cause of seizures in dogs, and annual vaccinations are not necessary, possibly causing more harm than good. After that incident, we stopped vaccinating and the seizures became less and less. I’m going to tell you how it’s in both your and your pet’s best interest to avoid yearly vaccinations. Annual

How Vaccine Companies Use Fear to Increase Vaccinations
The disturbing site linked below encourages vaccinations -- this is unsurprising, since it is sponsored by a vaccine division of Sanofi Pasteur. It is a particularly good example of how vaccine companies prey on the fears of parents. It features a frightened-looking baby next to the words, “I can catch pertussis from you, mom, and it can be serious.” The site also features links to the sound of a whopping cough, and says that you should, “Make sure your family and friends get vaccinated” since “anyone who spends time with your baby may pass on pertussis ... [including] childcare providers, household help, and your friends.”

The Danger of Excessive Childhood Vaccinations
By Russell L. Blaylock, M.D. In 1976, children received 10 vaccines before attending school. Today they will receive over 36 injections. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control assured parents that it was safe to not only give these vaccines, but that they could be given at one time with complete safety. Is this true? Or are we being lied to on a grand scale? The medical establishment has created a set of terms, which they use constantly to boost their egos and firm up their authority as the unique holders of medical wisdom -- the mantra is “evidence-based medicine”, as if everything outside their anointing touch is bogus and suspect. Parents face prison for refusing vaccinations
From Yahoo! News : As doctors struggle to eradicate polio worldwide, one of their biggest problems is persuading parents to vaccinate their children. In Belgium, authorities are resorting to an extreme measure: prison sentences. Parents May Be Jailed Over Vaccinations
Two sets of parents in Belgium were recently sentenced to five month prison terms for failing to vaccinate their children against polio. Each parent was also fined 4,100 euros (about $8,000). The parents can still avoid prison if they vaccinate their children. But if they miss their deadline for doing so, the parents could be put behind bars. Belgian officials would not say why the parents refused the vaccine or how long a time they have been given to vaccinate their children. The polio vaccine is the only one required by Belgian law. Exceptions are granted only if parents can prove their children could have a bad physical reaction to the vaccine. France also makes polio vaccinations mandatory by law. In the U.S., children must be vaccinated against many diseases including polio, but many

Vaccinations - 4 Problems With Vaccinations And What To Do Instead
I often come across parents, mostly mothers, who struggle with the decision whether or not to vaccinate their children. The pressure to vaccinate is on from paediatricians and sometimes also from family members. If the mother has started to awake spiritually she often intuitively knows that the regular vaccination is not the way to go. I say the mother, because women are often more connected spiritually, but there are also many dads who think twice before getting their kids vaccinated.Vaccinations are also pushed when someone goes to see their family physician in the fall, for a regular check up or for some other concern. When they leave, they have likely also received a flu shot...Don't get me wrong, I am not against immunization. It is often a good thing when a disease can be avoided, bu

Cat Vaccinations And Why They Are Important
Being a cat owner carries certain responsibilities other than making sure your pet is well fed and has a warm place to sleep. As well as these basic essentials, the health of your cat and protecting them from various feline diseases should also be high on your priority list as a cat owner.Cat Vaccinations work exactly the same way as vaccinations for humans do. They help to boost the cat's immune system by producing antibodies for various different diseases that can then fight off attacks from any potentially fatal illness that they may come into contact in the future. The vaccine also prevents the cat from becoming a carrier of these diseases and in doing so is also providing protecting for other cats in the neighbourhood.Kittens receive their first natural defences from illness via their

      Protect Your Cat With Vaccinations
If you want to enjoy the companionship of a healthy and happy cat, 1 of the most important things you can do is to safeguard its health. Vaccinations can protect your cat from many common cat diseases. Weaned From Mother's Immunity When your kitten is 6 to 8 weeks old, you should begin his vaccinations. Before this time, the mother's antibodies have been protecting him. Once he is weaned, however, he will need to develop antibodies of his own. The Vital First Visit The first office visit is when your veterinarian will give your kitten a complete physical examination. A fecal exam is normally done to assure that your kitten doesn't have worms. Prior to vaccinations, your veterinarian should do a blood test to be sure the kitten is not already infected with Feline Leukemia. The vet may also test for Feline Infectious Peritonitis. These tests are quick, and your veterinarian will have preliminary results in minutes. If your kitten is not already infected with 1 of these diseases, the

Ways You Can Help Your Baby After Their Vaccinations
Seeing that Gianna just had her first round of shots on Friday, I figured that I would share some tips on how to comfort your baby after they get theirs. First off, I don’t know of anyone that likes to go the doctor’s for a shot, especially babies or little kids. With that said, I know from first hand experience now that it can be even more difficult for a parent watching, then a child actually receiving one. You feel so bad for them and when they get that first little poke, you can just see a look of pain upon their face and you just want to cry. In some cases, your baby may have a slight reaction to a vaccination and might have trouble eating and/or sleeping afterwards. The best thing that you can do for them at this point is to make sure your baby is comfortable and if needed, try to use some home remedies to help relieve some of the more minor reactions. If by chance your baby develops a slight fever, try giving them some acetaminophen (Tylenol) - first consult with you

Are Two Mumps Vaccinations Better Than One?
During outbreaks of mumps, vaccine effectiveness is better when two mumps vaccinations are given rather than one, according to findings published in the current journal Pediatrics. Despite high vaccination rates, an outbreak of mumps occurred in July 2005 among 541 children from the United States and abroad who attended a 4- or 7-week overnight summer camp in upstate New York. Dr. Joshua K. Schaffzin, of New York State Department of Health, Albany, and colleagues conducted a study of this outbreak. Of the 541 children, 31 were diagnosed with mumps, for an overall attack rate of 5.7 percent. Of the 507 children who had their immunization history available, 440, including 16 who became ill, had received two doses of the mumps vaccine, for an attack rate of 3.6 percent.Sources:Reuters October 17, 2007

Absurd Vaccine Marketing Calls for Cervical Cancer Vaccinations for Young Boys
The headline for this story is not a typo. The push to sell more vaccines and pharmaceuticals has now reached a level of absurdity that should astonish any intelligent person. The mainstream media is now reporting -- and I'm not kidding -- that young boys should be vaccinated with Gardasil (the drug now being pushed onto teenage girls to supposedly prevent cervical cancer) based on the idea that if they have oral sex with girls who carry HPV, they might get throat cancer! Title: Vaccinations and Your DogAuthor: Debbie Ray Vaccinations and Your DogIt is very important to vaccinate your dog and it is also avery important part of a total dog health care program. However knowing what to vaccinate for and how often to giveyour dog vaccines are two very important questions. Regularvaccinations can prevent your dog from contracting manydiseases. Overall, the two most important viruses tovaccinate for are canine parvovirus and canine distemper. Most vets agree that it is vital to vaccinate puppies at 6weeks of age and again at 8, 12, and 16 weeks forDistemper, Canine Infectious Hepatitis, Leptospirosis,Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus (DHLPPC). It issuggested that puppies are also vaccinated for rabies atsix months and then to be repeated annually.Although your new puppy may squirm or even cry when gettinghis vaccinations, it is just as important for your dog asit is for your children to receive these "annual shots". Nova Scotia Doctor Recommends Happy Hour Vaccinations to Cut Spread of Mumps
During the last five months more than 450 people in Nova Scotia have contracted mumps in an epidemic that has health officials in the Canadian province concerned about the vaccination rates, especially among young adults.Dr. Noni MacDonald, an infectious disease specialist and former dean of medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, has proposed a novel solution: offer vaccinations to young people at bars. The "shot" and a beer approach would be one way to reach a group in the population that is likely to be susceptible to spreading mumps and other deceases and also may not have up to date vaccinations. Dr. MacDonald has gone as far to suggest special happy hours with reduced drink prices for people who have their measles, mumps, rubella immunizations updated. Her comments were carried in the Canadian Medical Association Journal and in Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reports.Nova Scotia health officials have agreed that new approaches are necessary to reach young people. More About Vaccinations
I've been vaccinating my horses for as long as I've had them. A steady 7 years. And there has been a fair few here. I come home from work this morning after a 12 hour shift and a 45 minute drive both ways to find Kola extremely lethargic. The girls were vaccinated on Monday and she's been increasingly lethargic throughout the week. Laying down more and more. So I check her out and call the vet because she's just not right. We concur over the phone that it might be a reaction to the vacs and I go out and give her a little over a gram of bute. She gets gaggy and even more sleepy. I call the vet back because now she's wobbly on her feet and unbalanced after about an hour and a half of watching her. So the vet comes out to see her because now I'm wondering if she's collicking because I've seen Misty drink at least five times in two hours and Kola not a drop. She hasn't pooped or peed and I am confused. He checks her out. Of coarse now she poops in front of us, but it's loose. He

      Dog Vaccinations
Dog owners must know this, that Vaccinating for your dog is an important to protect it as well others around it, including you and your family. Some vaccinations are a must, such as that for rabies, which is actually required by law, while others are not a necessity. It is important to vaccinate puppies as this is the time they are most vulnerable to contract the disease. Reactions Some animals have a systematic reaction to vaccinations such as temperature or muscle pains. You may notice that one or two days following the vaccine, your dog may eat less and sleep more. This is no cause to worry; it is just a non-permanent reaction to the shot. More serious reaction such as vomiting may occur. Giving your dog antihistamine can prevent such side effects. The component, which is the likely cause of such reactions, is known as Leptospirosis and this may actually be left out of some vaccines. Shot requirements for puppies A minimum of two multivalent vaccinations are rewuired for every dog

      Vaccinations without pain?
A new technology called Nanopass promises a unique new way to administer intradermal drugs. The Nanopass technology uses an array of small pyramid-shaped needles to administer the drugs intradermally. By using multiple needles which are extremely short, pain in spared while the vaccines are administered. The needles are less than one micrometer in diameter and are so short that they do not penetrate the skin deep enough to contact the nerve endings which normally cause pain. These new nanopass needles are also capable of delivering cosmetic enhancement substances. While not on the market yet, NanoPass Technologies Ltd. has received a $6.5 million dollar grant to continue research and development. [via medGadget]
