You may have noticed that this blog fails to load occasionally in the last couple days. When you try to load the website, you will be greeted with a problem like “Account Suspended, please contact the webmaster” and it talks about CPU usage being exceeded. I saw this yesterday and I contacted Host Monster to report this problem. They answered me that this problem has nothing to do with their servers and that I will need to fix the problem with my website. One of the suggestions that they offered was to upgrade the blog software to the latest (WordPress 2.3.1). I did that and now I’m hoping this will resolve the issue.
The problem is that I’m not sure if this will totally fix the problem, so I will need your help. Just post a comment in this post if you saw the Death Screen.

I’m loving the fact that major Wordpress releases will be more frequent from now on. Upgrading to Wordpress 2.3 was a breeze, and I did it in 2 minutes flat with the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade Plugin. I’ve had a go through the interface, and like most of what I see. The dashboard has been updated, although not quite to my taste.
Specifically, the incoming links are now reported by Google blog search instead of Technorati’s incoming links. I’m not the biggest fan of this feature because Google Blog Search reports every post I make as an incoming link from the same domain. Because of this, I have to dig deeper into finding out what blogs are linking to my posts. I hope the Wordpress team comes out with a fix for this, so that user can choose between Google Blog Search or Technorati incoming links.

As you know, we upped the ante with the camera a few months ago. Up until then the computer was doing fine as the image size was around the 600k mark but now each one is more like 5mb which obviously eats up the storage space somewhat faster.
In tandem with that, we’ve both been using the computer a whole lot more than we had in the past so a) we’re fighting over it and b) it’s filling up much faster than expected.

Finally, we have pencilled in a slide scanner so that we can mine the slide library that I have which will, of course, eat up the storage even faster.

If you monitor your web site or blog stats through Google Analytics, then you'll be in for a big suprise when you log in the next time! Google has just updated their Analytics program with a whole new interface (that is really nice) and a couple of nice features such as the ability to email or export reports in PDF format, customize the main screen when you first login, and compare different time periods on one graph. The Dashboard is what the main screen is called and has a nice flash graph for the number of page views and visitors for you site over a month period. This is similiar to the old interface, but I found that graph to be too small and by default it only displayed a week, whereas the new version spans across the page and display data for a month. You also now will see a Site Usage section that has some very useful stats such as the number of visits, pages/visit, page views, average time per visit, and % new visits. Well after much thorough testing (after the fiasco last time) I’ve now upgraded my blog to WordPress 2.1.3, and in addition to that addition I’ve also updated the blog theme from Lush v0.99.8 to Fresh-Compact v1.2 with some added improvements from Praveen Kumar’s version as well as some of my own improvements.
I hope you will enjoy this new theme as I wait eagerly for your feedback on it. I really want to hear if you think it’s better or worse than the last theme and what improvements can be made to it, also are you sad to see the Live Search feature go (I can re-implement if necessary) but happy to see the Shoutbox back, whatever you want to say about the new theme, let me know!
