After a few hours tinkering around with Epic's PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, we have to say we're very impressed. Epic has, at least upon initial examination, done a great job making sure PS3 users get the full Unreal Tournament experience. Not only does it control well with the SIXAXIS, but the game features fully customizable mouse and keyboard support, along with the ability to load in mods. Spong recently got to talk to Epic’s boss Mark Rein about Unreal Tournament 3 that is currently available on PC, due in January for PlayStation 3 and sometime later for Xbox 360. When asked, “why the console version of UT3 was noticeably slower than the PC version?” Rein said this - “When you play Halo on PC, you notice the difference too, yeah? This is also the reason why we don’t have cross-platform play, between PC and PS3, because you have got to make some compromises for each platform. Unreal Tournament 3 (III) is coming to both the PC and Sony PS3, although it is also rumoured to be coming to the Xbox 360 later on (not sure when). Below we have a gameplay video that shows a killing spree in Unreal Tournament 3 with plenty of bullet blasting; the game does look really nice. Although some gamers have said that the staying power of UT was the mods and many gamers are not sure how this will work on the PS3. Some gamers claim that the PC is the way UT is meant to be played, but I disagree as the PS3 supports a mouse and keyboard which is the main reason I always liked PC’s. Epic and Midway have nearly confirmed a release date for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament III.  According to Gamingbits.com the ship date was announced for the 10th of December and then quickly updated to the 11th with the added warning off Unreal Tournament III doesn’t have a strict street date, so like some of the other recently released PS3 games, it will be sold by retailers as it is received. Midway also confirmed that there won’t be a Playstation 3 collector’s edition. What do you mean it doesn’t have a strict street date. That’s one of the dumbest things I have heard off, this is a highly anticipated title and we want to be able to attend a midnight launch… We can’t do that without a strict release date. There is something funny going on at Epics headquarters, Mark Rein (who I have always trusted) has come out and said that they haven’t even started working on the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament. That will happen early next year and the reason for the delay is the fact that the 360 is a closed system which is causing problems for the mods… not sure why but I guess that is why I don’t work for Epic Anyway that is all good and well BUT I did report the other day about how great the game looked on the 360. That story was based on a reputable website in Australia (yes they exist) called Gameplayer which had a 6, yes 6, page review on how well the game plays on the Xbox 360. Unreal Tournament III for the PC has just gone gold (that means it’s off to the factory!) and is scheduled to hit store shelves on November 19th in the US said developer Epic Games today.
