I have begun to notice that many of our clients are students who are attending online universities and obtaining online degrees. I think this is a great development because these education programs are, for the most part, great programs and, most all, convenient. We have a great research study that we published regarding the quality and nature of online universities and online degree which you should read if you are currently or are considering an online program. For the most part, I consider these programs excellent for the students because the entire program can be completed online from a person's home and many of these students simply provide us with their login IDs for their universities such as the University of Phoenix or Argosy University which are two of the most popular ones,

Let's face it. With so many options available on the internet, choosing an online bachelors degree program can be a daunting task. Try a little test. Type "online bachelors degree" into Google and glance at the results. Many "featured" programs on various degree websites usually include names like University of Phoenix, Walden University, Kaplan University, and Capella University.Based on the test mentioned above, it should come as no surprise that these for-profit universities also rank in the top twenty of the largest online student bodies in the United States. According to the latest data from U.S. News & World Report, University of Phoenix served over 187,000 online students during the 2006-2007 school year. Significant online enrollment figures were also reported by Walden University

As the green building revolution gains traction on the local level, moving well ahead of any effort on the federal level save what departments and agencies can undertake on their own, one of the unsurprising leaders in the movement are America's colleges and universities. Even community and technical colleges appear to be getting into the act at a much higher rate than other portions of the public sphere.
A photoblog by Guy Kawasaki at How To Change The World showcases some of the green building features of a new structure on Stanford's campus which he boasts to be just as smart as the people who it houses. Features include south-facing windows with light shelves that push natural light deeper into the building, wide open atriums, rooftop photovoltaic solar panels, and a rather novel

The interview process… day two. Pleasantly surprised by the caliber of people we’ve been interviewing. Very disappointed with what Universities are doing, or rather not doing to prepare designers for the real world. Most design courses end up teaching students how to use programs and how to think about what they’re designing and why. But students are given arty projects that show no commercial value. How is a potential employer supposed to see the commercial value in ‘two birds sitting on a stone’ and ‘abstract type on board’. Arty is good, I’m not raining on that, paint in your free time, sing with the birds but when you’re designing for clients, your sole responsibility as a designer is making your clients money.
A message to designersWhile your lecturers are ge

Title: Finding Pet Friendly Colleges and UniversitiesAuthor: Darlene BerkelFinding Pet Friendly Colleges and UniversitiesIt may seem like a strange idea at first, but pet friendlycolleges and universities are on the increase. There arestill many student accommodations that do not allow pets, but if the thought of leaving your beloved pet at home formonths on end while you are at university is something youcannot accept, then you should be able to find a universityor college that offers the course you want, and will letyour pet stay with you.Just about every college has the policy of disapproving ofstudents keeping pets This is so for a number of reasons.Pets are usually considered to be smelly, noisy, andcapable of biting, or scratching. Another major concern isthat some students may be allergic. Also, there is thepossibility that once the novelty of having the pet hasworn off, and the students get busy with their academic (and social) activities, they may neglect or ab

The evolving world of Islamic universities has become a major challenge for Christians. The mission of Islamic education is to establish Quranic values and promote Islamic rule and influence worldwide through university community life and studies. The biographies of leading Muslim fundamentalist intellectuals have become essential reading for many students. Muslim academics are often persuaded that the West (which is often perceived as being Christian) is a major threat to Islam through secular democracy, globalisation, individualism, and liberalised morals.
The Jamia Millia Islamia University with 10,400 students and over 1,500 faculty staff in Delhi, India is a far-reaching university. One student recently had an encounter with Christ through a dream, and today he is a committed believer sharing his faith with others. God continues to open several doors at this university for the Gospel. Making disciples of Muslim studen

International Business Machines Corp. and Google Inc. said they are starting a program on college campuses to promote computer-programming techniques for clusters of processors known as “clouds.”
In a joint telephone interview, IBM Chief Executive Samuel Palmisano and Google CEO Eric Schmidt said each company will spend between $20 million and $25 million for hardware, software and services that can be used by computer-science professors and students.
So-called cloud computing — which lately has attracted the attention of many tech giants, including Microsoft Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. — allows computers in remote data centers to run parallel, increasing their processing power.
The cloud can run many software applications and can be accessed by many users. It promises to allow companies and universities to share resources and not have to expand their own costly data centers. However, the concept poses

Many of your seniors only realized that awful truth when they got their first job somewhere upon graduation. They were too late to do anything then! The damage is done all ready! You just have to accept the fact that Malaysian universities are not really contributing to our education excellence. They are doing the opposite really. They are more like contributing to the demise of Malaysian youth awakening.Still, congratulation is in order. I must congratulate Yee Yang Yang for discovering that Malaysian universities are not really ‘Menara Gading’ as the Malaysian Malays (Melayu) stubbornly think. He
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey is writing a new constitution which apparently will end the ban on women wearing a headscarf in a university. Turkish secularists regard the wearing of a headscarf as a religious statement and seek to continue the secular characteristic of their universities. The Committee of University Rectors issued a statement indicating strong opposition to lifting the ban and threatened to take the case to the European Court Of Human Rights. Professor Ural Akbulut expressed the feelings of many secular educators: “In Libya, there is no law about not covering oneself. However, over 20 years all girls in universities covered themselves due to pressure.” He argued there is no gray area when it comes to secularism.
It is difficult for Americans and many Europeans to grasp the intensity of feeling among Turkish secularists on the issue of a woman wearing a headscarf while attending college. Unfortunately, for members of the AKP who r
Somewhere at the top of the next Kentucky governor's to-do list must be a push to rev up state government support for our publicly assisted universities.I say "publicly assisted" because state colleges and universities increasingly have had to develop their own sources of funding -- not just by jacking up tuition, although that certainly has been a frequent resort in recent years, but also by competing for more research money and expanding their lists of private givers.Only 18 percent of the University of Kentucky's budget comes from Frankfort. In that sense, taxpayers are getting a real bargain, especially at the Kentucky institutions that are getting better and better, and earning more distinction and recognition in the American higher education community. ......While you were spending time at the water cooler speculating on who would complete the most passes, Brian Brohm or Andre' Woodson, UK president Lee Todd was embarking on a "See Blue" tour across the state, and the reference
Thanks to reports published in MalaysiaKini and HarakahDaily yesterday, I finally understand what had really happened in UPM recently. It has something to do with their impending campus election. Hmm…I’m not going to write long comments on this particular subject for I can see that bloggers such as Sagaladoola has all ready done a good job on it.However, I do like to pose a few questions to UPM.What is wrong with students that support Barisan Mahasiswa Bersatu or participate in ‘Persatuan Bahasa Tionghua’ anyway?Aren’t they free to choose what they believe is best for them?If our students cannot choose what is best for them, why even bother to have a campus election over in UPM in the first place? Stupid, isn’t it?To the best of my knowledge, we do not have any Father or Imam of Fascism here in Malaysia (I know that some of you would argue with this. :-)). So please do not suppress our students from exercising their rights.Courtesy of HarakahDailyYou know, folks. If fascism
FRANKFORT, Ky. --Two of the state's top elected officials are heading to court to resolve a dispute over the political makeup of governing boards at Kentucky's public universities.Gov. Ernie Fletcher has appointed more Republicans than Democrats to the boards, and Attorney General Greg Stumbo contends that's a violation of state law.Stumbo, a Democrat, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday asking a judge to weigh in on whether the Republican governor has complied with state law in making appointments at several state universities. In the lawsuit, Stumbo argued that Fletcher has violated a law requiring "proportional representation of the two leading political parties" based on voter registration. Kentucky has more registered Democrats than Republicans."I think it's a simple problem to remedy," Stumbo said during a news conference at the Capitol where he announced the filing of the lawsuit. "You can't just obey the laws you choose to obey. This governor has yet to learn that lesson." ...This

Gov. Charlie Crist included three state university academicians on his new Energy Action Team, a 21-member group created to develop Florida’s Energy and Climate Change Action Plan - part of the Republican governor's recent environmental push.
Dr. Lonnie Ingram, professor of microbiology at the University of Florida; Camille Coley, executive assistant vice president for research at Florida Atlantic University; and James Fenton, of the University of Central Florida's Solar Energy Center, will serve on the team.
They have until October 2008 to come up with proposals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and finding alternative fuel sources.
If you love to learn, and can't stand cutting the grass unless you are listening to something interesting - this is for you.At the risk of going totally nerd on you, I confess to being a regular listener of several of these outlets. I have listened in on two history courses at UC Berkleley, and numerous lectures, panel discussions and interviews from Princeton, Yale, and the University Channel - all on my little iPod. Similarly, you can pick up radio podcasts as well. That's how I can go to church and still catch Meet the Press. Can't get KCRW's Left, Right and Center on your radio? No problem. The number of offerings is considerable and growing.~The Internet puts you a few clicks away from the best college lectures in America.College is expensive. But if you are willing to settle for an education and don’t need the extra frill of a degree, the Internet now offers a way to listen to first-rate instruction—the kind that would normally cost upwards of $40,000 per year—for free.
I was looking through Hispanic Pundit (man, that's a well-designed blog, isn't it?) and read this post in which he links to an interesting question raised by Charles Murray, the IQ guru and controversialist. HP chose a different quote, but I think this one sums up the article best:
Conant’s cause was as unambiguously liberal in the 1940s as income redistribution is today. Then, America’s elite colleges drew most of their students from a small set of elite secondary schools, concentrated in the northeastern United States, to which America’s wealthy sent their children. The mission of the SAT was to identify intellectual talent regardless of race, color, creed, money, or geography, and give that talent a chance to blossom. Students from small towns and from poor neighborhoods in big cities were supposed to benefit—as I thought I did, and as many readers of the american think they did.
But data trump gratitude. The evidence has become overwhelming that the SAT

You read stories like this and it can make your heart ache knowing how hard some people are trying to succeed. It's unfortunate that so many in Africa just want to loot, burn and grab what small amounts of power over their fellow man that they can. All of humanity came from Africa and I think many people have forgotten or maybe never known that. Africa has been invaded, conquered and carved up so many times you have a hard time remembering all the names for the different countries and locations of their borders over he ages. The last few empires that held control over so much of Africa have retreated and for the most part handed control back to the indigenous populations. But they wont be able to grasp democracy and make it work for them overnight. What we see Africa going through now is not pleasant to say the least. Its downright ghastly much of the time with the genocide and civil war racking so much of it. And while nobody would wish such pain and suffering on any people, much of

Report: $12.7 billion needed over 15 years Kentucky's public universities likely will have to spend billions to repair and upgrade their aging facilities, according to a study by the state's Council on Postsecondary Education. The study estimates the cost could reach $12.7 billion or more over the next 15 years and is necessary in part because universities are trying to double the number of Kentuckians with bachelor's degrees and provide modern classrooms that incorporate technology and more hands-on, group learning.Measured against comparable benchmark institutions across the country, Kentucky's public campuses were described as fair to poor. This from the Courier-Journal.
9 INCREASES RANGE FROM 5.5% TO 9.9%The state Council on Postsecondary Education yesterday approved higher rates for tuition and mandatory fees at five more of Kentucky's public universities for the 2007-2008 academic year. This from the Lexington Herald-Leader.

No reasonable person can argue against the insecurity of many of our American educational institutions. The recent and devastating news of shootings and homicides in our schools and collages has
The story started when six of the local university colleges requested the dropping of the word ‘college’ in their names as they felt their current description had an inferior connotation. Then, they were being asked to upgrade their status. In April 2006, Higher Education Minister, Datuk Mustapa Mohamed had said that he was looking into their request. Finally, our government has agreed to rename 'university college (kolej universiti)' to 'university (universiti)' back in October 2006. The Star Online reported that January 1, 2007 will be the official date for the name-change for six university colleges:Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia (KUKUM) to Universiti Malaysia PerlisKolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM) to Universiti Malaysia TerengganuKolej Universiti Kejuruteraan dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUKTEM) to Universiti Malaysia PahangKolej Universiti Teknikal Kebangsaan Malaysia (KUTKM) to Universiti Teknikal Malaysia MalaccaKolej Universiti Islam Malay

OpenOffice.org is a popular office suite. As it is open source and available for free it is very attractive to institutions that want to save some money. This is especially true for institutions of higher education, that also want to save some money for students.
How popular is OpenOffice.org at the nations colleges and universities? That question has been researched by Benjamin Horst a NY based open source advocate. If your college uses OpenOffice and it is not on the list, drop Ben a comment.
Also, Digg this story so more people read about it and we get an even better list.

A few weeks ago, Daniel Pipes went boldly to London to speak at a conference hosted by none other than Ken Livingstone, to discuss the problems with terrorism around the world, and scored a surprising success. However, this week, he went to the Irvine University (H/T: Melanie Phillips), and there, there was certainly some bigotry present, even if there was support present too:At one point, at 12:00, the leader predicts that "it's just a matter of time before the State of Israel will be wiped off the face of the map,' in response to which the crowd, self-exiled, standing in the dark and the cold, yelled out "Takbir' and "Allahu Akbar.' In response, those who remained in the auditorium chanted "Am Yisrael Chai.'There may have been supporters of Pipes there too, but, such universities have still become something akin to safe havens for bigots and terrorist supporters, and it's a serious problem that needs to be discussed and debated, perhaps on network TV.
