Invariably there will be those that will argue that, in ‘merely’ being a concept, this touchscreen universal remote conceived of by David Chacon has the luxury of being as desirable as it pleases in being wholly fictitious and constrained only by the designer’s scope of imagination, but to do so would negate the fact that it’s the concepts of today lead to the products of tomorrow and so a

This cute little thing is actually a voice-operated infrared universal remote control for multiple home appliances. The 5-pound, 11-inch-tall android is called ApriPoko, and is capable of learning how to control electronics by watching you and asking questions about your behavior.ApriPoko sits in the living room and waits for you to use a remote control. When its sensors detect infrared rays emitted by a remote, the robot speaks up: “What did you just do?” it asks. Talk back to ApriPoko (”I turned on the TV” or “I switched to channel MTV,” for example), and it will memorize your actions. It's even equipped with a camera to identify users, presumably to learn their habits. So, next time when you want to turn on the TV or change the channel, simply tell ApriPoko and it will move
There's got to be a subliminal message of some sort coming out of Japan with the influx of robotic gizmos the country seems to be endlessly conceptualizing, not to mention giving them affectionate nicknames. Just name us any other country that's so obsessed with birthing mechanical substitutes. [ ApriPoko](Credit: ...
"Set him up in your living room and when you use your TV remote he will ask you ‘What did you just do?”, you then tell the robot what you just did, for example “switched to channel 1″, the next time you want to switch to channel one, you just say the command and ApriPoko will change the channel for you."[via geeky gadget]

The Jasco GE Flip Universal Remote, whch, thanks to its curved design fits comfortably in your hand, offers a mini keypad with dedicated buttons for controlling your TV, Video Recorder, DVD and satellite/cable boxes with installation roving a breeze thanks to an internal library of over 1000 codes for all major brands.

If you're anything like me you have about ten remotes sitting on your living room coffee table and more piling up each day. It seems like every new gadget or toy comes bundled with a "convenient" new remote control. Hell, I have a remote for my TV, satellite receiver, DVD player, stereo, xbox, etc. I even have two for my computer for crying out loud!Well, the good people from Engadget have a relatively inexpensive solution to this little problem. They turn a regular iPod (they used a mini) into a universal remote control, that works with any device that uses an infra red (IR) remote. So how did they do it?Essentially, they recorded the "sound" the IR remote (in their case a TV remote) made and transferred it to their computer, and in turn their iPod mini. They then rigged their mini up with a sound-IR device that would transfer the sound from the iPod into the IR signal needed to control the TV. It's really quite an impressive hack!
