All Sorts of Idiocy, Failure and Today's New (OLD) Band - The Unicorns
So, two stories to tell today. Firstly, I somehow only remembered at the very last minute that I wouldn't have time to post anything today, due to innumerable computer/human interface-complications. Panic set in immediately. This is Idiotic Moment Number 2.The GOOD NEWS, though, was that the consequences of Idiotic Moment Number 2 has been rescued by Idiotic Moment Number 1, which was usefully con

So much sunshine and unicorns they are shooting out my ass
It has been hard getting into blogging lately as I feel my plate is quite full 95% of the time with Kayla and everything she needs/has going on. I struggle with typing the words out that I want to say for fear that people will think all I do is complain on here. But I’ve [...]

There Are No Rainbows and Unicorns Here
I should have known the monster was lurking in the shadows.Lately I've felt out-of-sorts. It started innocently enough - I could blame my uneasy moods and little dark cloud over my head on our employment situation. (Still no jobs yet, by the way.) I might have felt the cold breath of it on the back of my neck at BlogHer.But over the past week I've started running little self-checks in my head, and

Unicorns, Rainbows, And Tights, Oh My!
Just a quick note to let you all know my dad is doing just fine. I, however, may never be the same after taking a peek under the bandages swaddling his feet, or rather what’s left of them, and almost passing out. Curiosity meet cat. Oy. Thanks for all the love you have shown me. I shot unicorns [...]

      rainbows and unicorns
Sweet grinning, cherry blossom face, burgeoning infectious giggles, untroubled notions float about, with a stride of natural grace, in coloring candy squiggles, Play house, where only babies cry, for a climb up the old oak tree, Then at the top of lungs a shout, ride dreaming clouds on summer’s sky, how great the sound of being free. Lollipop dresses bounce around, for a new toy or [...]

of this is proof that unicorns do exist
'Unicorn' born in Italy: A roe deer with a single horn in the middle of its head has found fame as the "Unicorn" of Tuscany. The 10-month-old deer was born in captivity at the Centre of Natural Sciences, a nature reserve near Prato.

      Vaseline (and Unicorns)
Earlier this year I was asked if I would read a yet-to-be released book for a good friend of mine in the publishing business. This meant turning off my lap top and actually turning real pages instead of just scrolling down with my thumb. Weird. I almost felt like a pioneer woman. Heh. It didn’t take [...]

      Where Do Unicorns Live?
That’s what my preschooler wants to know.  Now that I think about it, I remember wondering the same thing when I was her age.  Hmm… maybe unicorn curiosity is genetic.  Regardless of where a child’s interest in unicorns originates, my preschooler has discovered an absolutely beautiful book, perfect for pre-K to second graders, on the subject.      Neil Reed’s The Midnight Unicorn (available at Amazon.com for under $15) is a magical story [...]

      Unicorns, Symbols Of Purity
In its origins, the Unicorn was a creature depicted as a white horse, with antelope hooves, billy-goat beard, and a horn in its forehead. But with the pass of time, fantasy artists have depicted the Unicorn as a horse with a horn in its forehead and lacking of the other elements. Some also depict the Unicorn winged. There are ancient Greek, Roman, and Macedonian stories that tell about a creature with a single horn. Some say that the origin of those stories may lay in the travels that they did into the India, and they are describing the Indian rhinoceros.Other origins of the Unicorn can be found in the viking mythology and tell about a sea creature that has a horn in its forehead and probably it's actually a cetacean called narval. But both the narval and the rhinoceros are very different from

The Unicorns - Three Inches Of Blood
Three Inches of Blood was a demo album recorded by The Unicorns prior to Unicorns Are People Too. Rumor has it that the album was burned onto CD-R's and given to club owners who let The Unicorns play gigs at their club. Although likely never sold in any form it can still be found online on various P2P and Torrent networks. Track Listing "Introduction" (0:22)"Jellybones" (2:02)"Segue" (0:08)"Do The Knife Fight" (4:19)"The Unicorns: 2014" (3:36)"Ebb Tide, Azure Sky" (7:18)"Down On The Corner" (1:02)"Peach Moon" (2:42)

      Unicorns Not Good Designated Drivers
According to this AP News article from SFGate.com, a man in Billings, Montana, crashed into a light pole and told police that he wasn't driving, a unicorn was.Once again we see the perils of reading too little speculative fiction. Had this man been fantasy-literate, he would have known not to let his unicorn drive in the first place. Unicorns make lousy designated drivers. I never let my unicorn Frederick drive. As for my gryphon Jerry, he can't drive because he always wants to ride in the bed or stick his head out the window. My dragon Snuffles, on the other hand, is a reasonably good driver, though I had to instruct him not to give other drivers "the claw" when he gets cut off on the Interstate.Anyway, police officers have about the same reaction to the "My unicorn crashed my car" excuse that teachers have to the "My dog ate my homework" excuse (with me, it was always "My manticore ate my homework," and that went over even worse). So here's the AP article for you:Billings, Mon

      Unicorns and Equine Dreams
When I was a little girl, thoughts of horses filled my every waking moment. I dreamed and schemed of the horse I would own, how in the world I would actually buy that horse and where in my suburban back yard I would keep my dream equine. My horse would have a golden mane, knicker softly when he saw me and carry me on pounding hooves over open fields and valleys…..Well, in reality, I was one of six children whose hard working single mom struggled to cover the basic costs of keeping us all fed and clothed. Actually owning a horse was most certainly a dream, but that didn't stop me from happily imagining my world with a horse beside me.I carried that dream all through my childhood, through adolescence and into adulthood. I volunteered at various stables just to be near horses, to touch and smell them, revel in that equine presence. Until finally when I turned 40 (!!!) I decided, "its now or never", and purchased my first horse! Equine number one was a huge, black retired dressage

      Hunting Unicorns
I'm not sure exactly why I chose this book to read. I've gone back to using ReadItSwapIt lately, and everytime someone suggests a swap with me, I think to myself 'I can't continue rejecting everything' but I always do. I have this idea of which books I want to read in my head all the time, and I'm fairly closed to books I know nothing about or haven't had a recommendation for. I've come to realise that this isn't just a recent development either, I very rarely will pick up a book that looks interesting and read it just on the basis of the summary on the back. Oh well, this was different and I wasn't disappointed. It says somewhere that it's a romantic comedy, but I found that the romantic part wasn't as central, and I liked that. I liked the odd style of narration, and I genuinely felt for most of the (eccentric) characters. But as with the rest, I have put up as many books as I can access onto my swap list (restricted of course because I can't move the heavy boxes of b
