Major Nelson brought a bit of sunshine into our dark world today, when he announced on his blog that the new Hero and Villain packs for Marvel Ultimate Alliance are, at last, on the marketplace. Individually, each set runs for 500 MS Points, but combined they only cost you 800 MS. And if you don’t already know, here’s what you get with the two packs:
Heroes (seen above):
Nightcrawler
Hawkeye
The Incredible Hulk
Cyclops
Villains:
Dr. Doom (WTF?)
Sabertooth
Magneto
Venom
If you haven’t picked up MUA yet, but plan to in the near future — hold off a month. By the end of May, a new version of MUA is due out that will have the four characters boxed with it — not to mention new achievements for all you point whores out there.

Remember a month or so ago when I was amongst the first blogs to inform everyone that Activision was planning on releasing new content? Well, now we [may] know exactly what these new downloads are going to consist of!
The “Hero Pack” and “Villian Pack” will each sell for 500 MS Points, but you can save some green by buying them both in one large download for only 800. Here is what each will consist of:
Hero Pack:
Incredible Hulk
Nightcrawler
Hawkeye
Cyclops
Villain Pack:
Doctor Doom (doesn’t make too much sense)
Magneto
Sabertooth
Venom
Now, this information was taken from a GameDaily article that has since been removed, so take this with a grain of salt for now. Either way, I’d hang my hat on this info for the time being. There is no reason to believe this is false.
And I’m still pissed that there is no Frank Castle.

Last year, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was hailed as one of the best games of the year. Comic book fans hailed the plot as being one of the best stories to ever be told inside of a comic book game, while gamers praised the game for providing a solid game that you could go back to time and time again.
Activision would like to thank you for all their support. In fact, they already have. In an open letter from Activision’s Global Brand Manager, who goes by the name “Daniel” does just that. But pay close attention to the last paragraph:
While the Ultimate Alliance VIP experience is coming to a close, we do have some nice “downloadable” surprises coming your way so stay tuned for that.
It seems a little late to be coming out with downloadable content for this game, but hey… if it’s good, I’ll be there.

After just a few weeks, and several sessions of gameplay I’ve finally finished Activision’s Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I have to say, I have some very mixed feelings about this game. While there were times that I was definitely entertained there were almost as many times that I was frustrated with poor level design, weak team AI, and poor story progression.
The gameplay itself is relatively fine-tuned. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is similar in many ways to both of the X-Men Legends games - as a result it has the benefit of two previous iterations of its main game mechanics. Levels are extremely linear with almost no “wrong turns” to slow you down. Push forward, break everything, look for arrows and you’ll accomplish the main tasks with very little resistance.
The majority of trouble you’ll run into comes in two forms, the aforementioned weak team AI and mini-bosses. The former almost always preceded the latter for me. What I mean is, right befor
