My Easter weekend was spent largely observing life from the couch in my lounge. The past few months have been a gamers’ delight with a plethora of top titles for all the platforms being delivered into our grateful hands. And while it hardly seems fit to complain about this sort of thing, I must admit (rather shamefully) that I still had not got round to playing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Although I had ventured into Hyrule on a few occasions, I had not offered myself up to the realm completely and surrendered myself to the beauty and ingenious that is Zelda. I will pretend that I did not hear that collective sigh of disbelief. Continuing along my path of honesty, I will admit that I did not even start the game on my own accord. After spending the morning and afternoon shooti

System: Wii, GCDev: NintendoPub: NintendoRelease: Nov 2006Players: 1Perhaps it is fitting that Twilight Princess was delivered to rabid Zelda fans in the same year the series celebrates its 20th anniversary. The Zelda series has always captured the imaginations of gamers both young and old with its focus on exploration and experimentation and like a gift from the gods of gaming, the latest adventure continues this wonderful time-honored tradition. Featuring a more mature Link than we’ve seen in recent years, Twilight Princess delves into darker themes with macabre overtones which earns the first Teen rating for the series. While it’s not approaching Resident Evil territory, Link’s latest quest is far heavier in tone than 2003’s cel-shaded Wind Waker. While Zelda pundits could pontificate endlessly where each separate Link adventure matches up in the overall timeline of the series, I find it’s best to check reality at the Start screen and let your imagination take over. flangracneig pgoramian This weekend, despite being all Eastery, I have put some serious hours down on Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, here are my thoughts.
Firstly, can I just say how much of a departure it is from previous Zeldas. I have yet to play the N64 or Gamecube incarnations of previous Zelda’s, so I’m going back to Link To The Past on the SNES, so the graphics and the controls was a huge difference too. The Wii remote works quite well, though I shake my nunchuck controller quicker than Michaelangelo when trying to execute a spin attack, and I’m rarely successful.
The storyline is your typical storyline “Princess is captured in a big tower and you’ve got to return the light to permanent brightness etc.”, and there’s probably more cutscenes than I’d like. However, it has been westernized - instead of stupid names for children, there’s…Colin. And Beth. How fucking cool is that?!?! A Japanese RPG with proper names ra
Seeing as how this is a long weekend (I don’t work this Saturday), and I’m looking out the window at quickly accumulating snow, it looks like this weekend will be a reading and gaming fest. I’m desperate to get started on A Scanner Darkly before I see the movie - I just need to finish Eragon first.
In between bouts with Eragon I’ll almost certainly be trying to get in some quality time with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Wii. Yeah, it’s standard Zelda fare.
It’s kind of amazing that a game like The Legend of Zelda can be reborn so many times using the same system. You know you’re getting a boomerang, an oil lamp, fire and ice arrows, and even the iron boots … but it’s all still fun!
If you haven’t played the game yet I highly recommend it.
First off, this is a Collector’s Set and not a Collectors Edition. What’s the difference? Well a Collectors Edition, you’d expect, should contain a game. The Collector’s Set, in this case, is just a couple of spiffy Zelda branded items.
As you can see, there’s a sword & shield set that looks a lot like the one used to make the Twilight Princess sword and shield Wii / Nunchuck pairing.
There’s also a certificate of authenticity [I guess they want this to be a REAL collectors item and not just a gimick] and a “sample soundtrack” with six songs. For the full song list check out Go Nintendo.
