Meizu's M8 gets more UI tweaks for its music playerNow, we know the official story on the CeBIT Meizu shutdown was related to MP3 codec licensing, and not the M8's iPhone-like UI. Still, it does seem strangely fortuitous that more pictures of the phone's interface have just appeared that seem to showcase a move away from Apple's familiar look. The Chinese site CNMO has new shots of the device's music player, which now appears to incorporate song info, EQ display, lyrics, and volume / tracking controls all on one screen. The pictures also show a couple of different music browsing options, both in landscape and portrait mode. Is this a signal that the company is putting some distance between the M8 and the iPhone? Only time will tell.(Via Engadget.)
I hope that you like the minor tweaks that I have made to the blog. As you can see I have kept the same basic layout and design.I have tried to place similar things together in the sidebar on the left. I kept the Headline animator at the top and then tried to place all blog raters next. There is still one on there bottom of the page since the code for it has to remain where it is in order for it to work.I have moved the Bible Verse of the Day just above the Feedjit widget. Below Feedjit I have added the Live Traffic Feed. Below there I placed the Neighborhood from BlogCatalog. Below the Neighborhood is My BlogMap. This is interesting because it shows the location of nearby bloggers that belong to the BlogMap site. It also indicates when any of them are online.Next comes the venerable Kitte

One thing users aren't aware of is all the unnecessary network protocols and components that you may have enabled and not using. Sometimes having these enabled may cause network problems and even degrade your connection. Increasing this number to 5 gives the prefetcher system more system resources to prefetch application data for faster load times. Depending on the number of boot processes you run on your computer, you may get benefits from settings up to 9. However, I do not have any substantive research data on settings above 5 so I cannot verify the benefits of a higher setting. This setting also may effect the loading times of your most frequently launched applications. This setting will not take effect until after you reboot your

Although you should expect to wait for a few seconds for Windows XP to boot, if you have had it running for a while or just installed a fresh install and it seems to boot rather slowly. Its time for you to apply some old tricks once again making your PC roar to life again. There are several tweaks that help Windows XP get the bootup speed you want. This tutorial explores how to put these techniques to work.1. Change the boot device list order Most computers are set up so that when you first turn on your computer it will check to see if you want to boot from other drives besides your hard disk. It will automatically check the CD/DVD Drive for a bootable disk, or a floppy disk (which we dont really use as much if any), some may have it to check boot from LAN or USB Stick. If all you want is for your primary hard disk to boot up Windows, make it so in the BIOS first. The main benefit here is by placing your primary hard disk first as the startup device boot the system does not have

If you’re annoyed by Internet Explorer’s incessant barking that you’ve lowered your security settings (like, if you’re a non-paranoid expert), launch “gpedit.msc” from either the Run command or Start Search field, navigate through Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer. In the rightmost pane, double-click “Turn off the Security Settings Check feature” and set it to Enabled. If Internet Explorer’s Information Bar also annoys you, you can turn it off (again) in the Group Policy Object Editor (gpedit.msc) through Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer / Security Features. In the rightmost pane, double-click “Internet Explorer Processes” and set it to Disabled. Hallelujah! I’ve just mentioned two tweaks that are buried inside the Group Policy Editor. Jim Allchin pointed out that there’s a Group Policy Settings Refe

Vista Registry Tweaks - Tips to Play With Windows Registry
Author: Arvind
The most important tool available for Vista registry tweaking is the Registry Editor (regedit.exe), which allows you to view and manually edit the contents of Windows Registry. The window of the Registry Editor is divided into two pans of which the left side contains a tree with keys that are represented as folders. The right side shows the values contained in currently selected specific key. There are several tweaks that you can perform using the Registry Editor. Among them, some of the important Vista registry tweaks are:

There are 3 tweaks you can make to change how XP uses memory. Open Regedit and Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management Disable Paging Executive:XP pages data from RAM memory to the hard drive. We can stop this happening and keep more data in RAM, resulting in better performance. Users with a large amount of RAM (256MB+) should use this setting. The setting we change to disable the ’Paging Executive’, is DisablePagingExecutive. Changing the value of this key from 0 to 1 will de-activate memory paging. System Cache Boost:Changing the value of the key LargeSystemCache from 0 to 1 will tell XP to allocate all but 4MB of system memory to the file system cache, allowing the XP Kernel to run in memory. The 4MB of memory left is used for disk caching, if more is needed, XP allocates more. Generally, this tweak improves performance by a fair bit but can, in some intensive applications, degrade performance. As with the previous

Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem continues to struggle. He appeared to tweak his right knee while making a cut Thursday and hobbled through the rest of the practice. He needs to make something happen Friday to restore the confidence of the coaching staff. Right now, the first-round pick is no better than the team’s sixth receiver, and that’s only because Jamal Jones is out with a knee injury. Reported by Jeff Duncan, New Orleans Times-Picayune
<<<Hotwire>>>
Meachem is off to a rough start in his NFL career. He reported to mini-camp out of shape, was having issues with dropped passes in camp and then took a serious lick on the first pass thrown to him. He’s working hard and will improve, but I’m not expecting much fantasy production from his this season.
Lets face it ! Tweaking gives us the satisfaction...of having done something to beat the system ! There is that urge, esp amongst die-hard tweakers, to squeeze out the last drop of performance ! Frankly speaking, the best "tweak" is to throw RAM at it ! Its one BIG healthy dose of tonic to perk up your machine.
There are some tweaks which can at best be considered to be of dubious value. Though most of them may not cause much harm, some of them, if applied indiscriminately may actually hurt performance. Some of them worked with older Windows versions, but are redundant & irrelevant now...
by Adam Pash When I made the switch to Ubuntu Linux on my desktop computer (that is, if you can call triple-booting Windows XP, Vista, and Ubuntu a "switch"), I was a little worried about finding the applications and tools that would make me as productive working in Ubuntu as I am working on Windows. After a little searching around the interweb, however, I've been more than impressed with the number of great, full-featured applications available for Linux, many of which outshine their Windows counterparts. And what's best - they're all totally free. Here are my top 10 favorite applications and tweaks that made replacing Windows with Ubuntu a breeze. Taking a page from Mark Pilgrim's essential software list, I've included the necessary command line code to install most of the applications below; if you don't like Terminal, you can use Ubuntu's very friendly Add/Remove software application interface (Applications -> Add/Remove...). Where I haven't included the apt-get line,

I just did some backtesting of the "Approaching 200 day + confirmation" filter. This time, based on Woodshedder's suggestions, I tested the 2 year period beginning 1/1/02 and changed the backtesting parameters from my usual 15 day maximum hold and 8% stop loss to a maximum hold of 5 days and a 2.5% stop loss. The results, for a mediocre time in the market, are quite nice:141 trades, 51% wins, 1.4 reward to risk, 60% ROI (compared to SPY ROI of -2.1%)My usual backtesting parameters (8% stop loss and 15 day maximum hold) yielded quite unimpressive results:141 trades, 60% wins, 1.0 reward to risk, -2% ROI (compared to SPY ROI of -2.1%)Woodshedder's suggested changes illustrate the importance of cutting off your losers quickly. I think this is especially true during weaker markets. It just isn't worth the brain damage of holding some of the stocks longer just to push up my winning percentage. And, for me personally, the 5 day maximum hold is closer to the way I want to actually trade the

Could the most longest awaited move in NFL history finally be on the verge of getting done? Well, let’s put it this way - at least the Dolphins and Chiefs are at least talking about the move to finally get quarterback Trent Green into a Fins uni and out of Big Red. The latest bit of talking between the two states that the Dolphins have modified their trade offer for Green. The Miami Herald reports Friday that the Dolphins are now willing to offer a conditional sixth-round pick that would become a fifth if Green meets certain conditions.
The deal over the past few months was that Miami was only going to give up a 6th rounder for Green, a QB who they already have a new contract in place with and ready to go once the deal gets done. KC all along has wanted at least a fourth-round pick for their former starter under center. Jim Steiner, Green’s agent, was quoted in the Herald as stating “I think we will get a deal done, there have been a lot of conversations.”

The MSRC’s Christopher Budd wrote in the security center’s blog early Thursday morning that Microsoft [...]
So Annex came out yesterday after all. Unfortunately, I hadn't heard anything before I got home so I decided to play something different, but I am looking forward to it tonight. I have looked around and found details on what has been patched/tweaked gameplay wise. Here's my breakdown and opinion...

Today's tweak is , how to enable back the popular "shutdown" button. I still remember couple of months ago when I first loaded my Vista Screen, and found out....My Shutdown button is missing, and what is perceived to be the shutdown button, see picture below is actually the sleep mode button. I'm not using a laptop nor a mobile devices and I'm kinda used to shutting down my PC entirely.

For those with a sharp eye, I've been playing around with some tweaks to the blog. You've probably noticed that I now have a "label cloud" thanks to the excellent tutorial provided by phydeaux3. I have also started going through my archives and adding tags to my old posts (previously Blogger did not have this feature) so if you are looking for some more information on Korea, feel free to click on the tags and read away. I've changed the limit to how many posts come up when you click on the labels (thanks to Ramani). Previously it was set to 20, but now I've set it to 100. That means when you want to read about my food posts, it may take a while to load, so please be patient!

I had previously promised that I would bring you on to more Tweaks n TIps to help you improving your PC expreience....Here are someThe Right-Click TweakLets say you have a bout 4-5 very useful applications which you use always. By placing them all on the first level menu will eventually crowd your start menu. Now why not utilize the right-click option instead? The right-click option gives you the ability to Open, Explore and Find. If you can add a shortcut to your application to that menu, it would be great. To do this, crank up your registry editor and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryShell. Right-click on Shell and create a new key. Type in an appropriate name for the key. On the right pane, double-click on the Default value, and add a title with a & character in front of the letter as an accelerator key. Right-click on the key you just created and create another key under it called command . For the Default value of command, enter the full path and program you want to execute in the

When Frank Williams and I launched TTAC’s news blog, we envisioned an editorial gestalt somewhere between Autoblog (dull but worthy) and Jalopnik (wild but wacky). I reckon we nailed it. We’re cranking-out far more (and timelier) hard news than Neff’s product-crazed army, and creating more pithy posts than Spinelli’s electric cool aid acid test troops. In another sense, thanks to our excellent commentators and snarky bloggers, we’ve established our own unique mindspace. Unfortunately, the feature's done sweet FA for our site stats.
While we’re waiting for Vista to get better or Windows 7 (probably 3 years to go), or contemplating on a Windows alternative altogether like Mac’s Leopard or LInux’s Ubuntu, don’t throw your XP partition away just yet. Tweak it up to get the most of your PC’s hardware as well as in preparation for SP3.
