Boston Celtics Complete Greatest Single-Season Turnaround in NBA History
With Saturday’s win over the Washington Generals…err…the Charlotte Bobcats, the Celtics have had the greatest turn around in NBA history. This really is something for my generation of Celtics fans. I was too young to really appreciate Larry Bird and the original big three. For the most part, the Celtics have been a laughing stock almost my entire sports-life. While teams like Detroit and Chicago went through good-bad-good cycles, the Celtics remained consistently bad (save for a few REALLY down seasons in the Eastern Conference). It’s amazing how all of the Boston Sports teams that don’t play on ice have followed the same path. 1) Horrible ownership leads to years of inept front office decisions and horrible teams. 2) Ownership finally decides to sell the team. 3)

In Turnaround, Industries Seek U.S. Regulation
WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 — After years of favoring the hands-off doctrine of the Bush administration, some of the nation’s biggest industries are pushing for something they have long resisted: new federal regulations. For toys and cars, antifreeze and fireworks, popcorn and produce and cigarettes and light bulbs, among other products, industry groups or major manufacturers are calling for federal health, safety and environmental mandates. Some of those industries are abandoning years of efforts to block such measures, often in alliance with the Bush administration, which pledged to ease what it views as costly, unnecessary rules. The consequences for consumers, though, are not yet clear. The tactical shift by industry groups is motivated by a confluence of self-interests: growing competition from inexpensive imports that do not meet voluntary standards, and a desire to head off liability lawsuits and pre-empt tough state laws or legal actions that were a response to laissez-faire Bush

Mitt Romney: Surprising Turnaround (Book Review)
I try to pride myself on not affiliating with one particular party, although I've been leaning towards a Biden (in my wildest dreams) or Obama presidency. It's not difficult to want a Democrat in the White House in a knee-jerk reaction to Bush's inept administration. However, to get the full picture, I had to read this book by Mitt Romney and do some research on this frontrunner in the Republican primary. I fully expected to hate the guy, considering some of his preposterous stances on social issues, but it says a lot that I finished the book with an extremely positive impression of Romney. The preface that Romney added to the book for the paperback edition was by far the most offensive part of the book. I was almost ready to stop reading when I read about Romney's stance on gay rights (basically that they should have none), and even more vexed (and amused) by his comparison of stem cell research to Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. The worst part of the preface is the paragraph

The Detroit Free Press reports that as he discussed Chrysler's efforts to return to profitability, he revealed they'll fall about $1b short of what they're spending. Their overall plan?
