Man Man - The Man In A Blue Turban With A Face

      the great big turban debate
OK, maybe it's not really a big debate, but it's still ongoing. You know the story - it was all initiated by Prada at the end of last year for SS 07, and has since been seen on other runways and has come right down to H&M. I've posted on it before, where I concluded it could look good if worn correctly. However this trend also has the potential to go horribly wrong - as many fashion writers have found in their road tests. And me? Well, until now I've avoided it, thinking it would amount to nothing. But they've persisted - perhaps partly due to a sense of fascination - just how far can designers make us go? And then, a few days ago, I was in a vintage shop and found an old turban, and tried it on. I liked the shape - I thought it worked fine even with my roundish face. I didn't like the fabric, though, so went home and tied my own turban using a silk scarf. What I found was that you need a hugely long scarf, preferrably rectangular in shape, and in something like cotton. I also fo

Watercolor on Yupo: Pink & Yellow Turban
Yupo paper can be a real challenge to work with, but I sure do enjoy experimenting on it. Since the paper is non-absobant (100% polypropelene synthetic) watercolors just lounge on the surface and intermingle (it's a pool party). The water evaporates (quickly, here in the desert) which leaves the pigments - in all their full power purity - laid out like colored cellophane on bright white tile.If you touch the dry areas with a wet brush, the pigments on the paper re-wet again, and lift off the paper down to white. If you don't like what you painted, just wash the whole thing off and start over.Pink & Yellow Turban, 4 X 4 Watercolor on Yupo (Sold)Available for sale here.
