The highly anticipated second season of The Tudors premiered tonight. I was too busy fawning over John Adams, but I'm sure I'll read about it tomorrow.This may not be news to some of you, because the episode made its debut YouTube last week. The crazy monarchy sex parts were taken out but the gist was there. Showtime is hoping the tease will garner subscribers.A better approach might have been to pre-screen the first 15 or 20 minutes on CBS, then direct people online, but who am I to judge?

Anglican church split over gays widens in CanadaUh huh this is the Church of England, you know the Church formed by Henry the VIII ( and you know him from the wonderful CBC TV series the Tudors) in order to obtain a divorce so he could marry his mistress(es).You know the Church that sanctioned each of his marriages one after another eight times.The Church that caused a schism in Catholic World of its day. Yep same church and now those who are the 'catholics', that is the conservatives, in the Anglican Church don't want to recognize gay marriage. I haven’t watched this new show, though it is hard to miss the ads for it. Huge posters pepper the streetcars and subway stations here in Toronto. It’s a Showcase tv miniseries about the life of young Henry VIII.
There is something unsettling about the posters. The title character - Henry of course - has been groomed and plucked until there isn’t a hair on his body. No chest hairs, no arm hairs - yuck! He is the quintessential metro sexual male. All smooth baby soft surfaces and not a hair out of place.
Now my question, perhaps best answered by Cardinal Wolsey himself, is this:
Did Henry suffer from such a bad fashion? Did he have every hair on his body plucked off?
He looks terribly downtown in the photos. Have the series producers done another disservice to history and remade our hero with 21st century morals and styles? I was under the impression King Henry was the picture of viral manhood. I can’t remember ever reading his court was obsessed with body hair
Jugando a ser Albéniz, hoy voy a hablar de televisión. Como se puede ver en la imagen, hablaré de The Tudors, una magnífica serie histórica que está arrasando entre la crítica norteamericana, y que cuenta las vivencias de juventud del rey Enrique VIII de Inglaterra. Se pueden ver sus problemas matrimoniales con Catalina de Aragón ( principalmente el que ésta no le dio un hijo varón), sus líos de faldas con múltiples cortesanas, su amor por Ana Bolena, sus pugnas con los reyes de España y Francia, los intentos por conseguir la nulidad papal…etc. Y no es que solamente el personaje del rey sea genial, sino que el resto de personajes son magníficos: el manipulador cardenal Wolsey, la sufrida Catalina de Aragón, la zorra de Ana Bolena y sus maquiavélicos padre y tío respectivamente, por no hablar del correctísimo Thomas More (Tomás Moro… escritor de “Utopía”). Pero además hay que añadirle una impresionante ambientación en esa época, desde los castillos,
