On Saturday, I met my friend David and we headed down to Bellaire Beach for a little surf fishing. It was a beautiful day, but the fish weren’t cooperating.                 Later that afternoon, we headed to the [...]

      Trolling the Web
The Wall Street Journal looks at people who troll political sites, but surprisingly leaves out a major source of trolls this year–supporters of Ron Paul. While typically problems with trolls from most sources are limited to people working alone or sometimes with one partner, many Paul supporters use trolling other sites as a planned tactic, failing to understand that this only results in creating antagonism and harming as opposed to helping their candidate. The nearest we saw to this phenomenon in the past was when some supporters of Howard Dean behaved this way in 2003-4. At least that year many more responsible Dean supporters, as well as the Joe Trippi, made statements regarding how counterproductive this was and urged them to cease. There are some common traits of trolls. One is that many simply want attention, and unfortunately articles like this will only encourage them. Another is that they have little understanding of “netiquette.” A troll featured in the arti

Daily Kos Trolling: Amerindian Reservations reservations
Amerindian Reservations, July 4, and Today's Issues by ogondai Sun Jul 08, 2007 at 10:41:51 AM PDT "Poverty came with the Reservations. We were forced to live away from our salmon and our other resources. Our poverty is our lack of our Indian resources. These resources are being destroyed... That's what's causing our poverty." Nathan Jim, Sr., Warms Springs Fish Commissioner Though I joined heartily in marking our nation's birth a few days ago, I think part and parcel of the day is keeping in mind whose blood greased our expansion westward. Our country has two original sins -- the suffering of African-Americans as slaves, and the suffering of Native Americans as obstacles to our land usage. We've only truly repented for one of those sins, and don't seem too concerned with the other. Why this is is I also want to examine. Of course, I'm speaking of our own corner of the Third World right here at home -- Amerindian reservations. OK. This is not a nutty opinion and I agree,

      Trolling For Treasure
When we moved to the Midwest, Mr. Chicken made me promise we wouldn't buy anymore "old shit." Rare books. Art Deco furniture. Mid-century pottery. Vintage sheet music. Old instruments. Bakelite and celluloid jewelry. We have a basement full of this kind of stuff. It doesn't help that we spend summers on Cape Cod, perhaps the epicenter for New England antiquing. Trolling the left Breast Cancer goes politica H.R.1157
Since most people have some combination of mothers, sisters, and wives in their life, I assume people of all political persuasions want an end to breast cancer. Fran Visco is no exception. In fact, she wants an end to breast cancer for Mother's Day. Pick up your phone. Tell your Representative and your Senators and to co-sponsor this legislation. Tell them the 240,000 mothers, daughters, sisters and wives diagnosed with breast cancer each year matter to you. Tell them do to it for your mother, for their mother, for mothers and for all women everywhere. A box of chocolates for Mother's Day is nice. Taking the next step to end breast cancer is better. I don't think I'd want my wife or mother or sister to think about politics on her day. I also don't think it's a good idea to say things like this bill will end breast cancer- it's dishonest. It would promote a study to examine the effects of the environment on breast cancer. Sounds good and it might be; I couldn't find anything

Tips On….Wahoo and Narrow Barred (Spanish) Mackerel– Saltwater Trolling baits and bait/lure combinations
Deckie Joe displays a wahoo’s unusual ability to hinge both its upper and lower jaws For us here on Kadavu Island, May to October is wahoo & sailfish season. Packs of wahoo congregate along the Great Astrolabe Barrier Reef and year round, we find Spanish mackerel. The average size of wahoo here is about 50lbs with a really good fish weighing in at 90 to 100lbs. The mackerel are common to20lbs but can reach 70lbs. The trick here is to first find the wahoo packs by trolling a spread of lures. The wahoo packs are usually on one side of a reef point or the other, depending on the current direction. Normally the up-current side on the drop-off where the depth is about 250ft. Once a pack is found, we then usually switch to 2 outfits on light tackle, rigged with garfish (Ballyhoo). We troll one skip bait and one swimming bait. This prevents the expensive problem of getting mauled by a pack, having 5 rods go off with associated chaos on deck and loosing almost everything you have in the wat

What Went Pear Shaped # 2: Trolling for Pacific Blue Marlin
Trolling for Pacific Blue Marlin 12.00 Noon on the Kadavu Seamount Trolling a 7kg Yellowfin tuna skipbait rigged with a 16/0 Duratin Cirle hook. The hook was rigged to sit 4 inches ahead of the tuna’s nose and connected with waxed rigging thread. 9 feet of 400lb Ande leader, 19ft of wind on leader to a Melton bent butt & Penn International 80 STW. A small blue marlin of about 100kg comes up behind the bait and quietly tries to eat it. The angler backs the drag off even more (it was set light already) and allows the bait to drop back controlling the spool with slight drag pressure to avoid over-spooling (bird’s nesting the line). The blue gobbles the bait and turns. Skipper calls for the angler to slowly bring up the drag. Some line pressure then the bait pops back up on the surface. No hook-up. Marlin comes back for attempt # 2. Same procedure but this time we give the marlin a good 10 seconds to swallow the bait. No hook-up. Marlin comes back for attempt #3. This time the angler

      Trolling For Columbine
She knew it, she knew I liked her and she did nothing about it. I guess I could have done something about it but I would have to be better looking, with clear skin, muscles that allowed me to lift things and push things until every girl within, I don't know, a mile's radius was lusting after me. But I was not. I had asthma and if I ate for a hundred years I wouldn't put any more meat on my bones than I already had. I don't know where all the food went. Mum said it all went to my brain but I don't feel particularly smart. If I was so smart I would figure out a way to let her know how I felt and find out what she thought about me. Actually I think I already know what she thought of me…I'd probably work to change that if I was as smart as my mother said. Mothers do that, tell you you're the smartest guy in the room and then kick your ass in front of family and friends for how you forget to do things and are always sitting around the house doing God knows what. Mothers sh
