Beer is mixed with saliva and blood for a drink that is shared when two Chagga men become blood brothers. The national anthem of the US, the "Star-Spangled Banner," was written to the tune of a drinking song. The shallow champagne glass originated with Marie Antoinette. It was first formed from wax molds made of her breasts. Beer was not sold in bottles until 1850; it was not sold in cans until 1935. In the 1600's thermometers were filled with brandy instead of mercury. A raisin dropped into a glass of champagne will repeatedly bounce up and down between the top and the bottom of the glass. Trivia Night Pays Off With Champagne and Beer
I met up with Justin in the common room of the Wellywood hostel in Wellington. The night was already set for us - Trivia Night at a local bar. His team had placed first the week before, so I was just hoping to make a small contribution to their defending effort. First off, we had a dare to settle, and Justin made good on it as you can see in the photo above. He and his friends (Mark from England, Justin/James from Ireland) were a riot, and I’m glad I got the chance to hang out with them all. On to the trivia - Christmas themed questions. I pulled out a few right answers “fox” “Serendipity” and “Jingle All the Way” however Justin and John were the trivia ninjas, helping the team to pull out a second place showing, plus a bonus question. The reward? A $50 bar tab that had to be used that night, and a bottle of champagne (which attracted a newly minted flight attendant in a red dress)! Alcohol consumption decreases during the time of the full moon. Drinking lowers rather than raises the body temperature. There is an illusion of increased heat because alcohol causes the capillaries to dilate and fill with more warm blood. Rhode Island never ratified the 18 Amendment establishing Prohibition. "Whiskey" is the international aviation word used to represent the letter "w." Most vegetable, and virtually all fruit juices, contain alcohol. There are 83 dry towns and villages in Alaska. White lightning is a name for illegally-distilled spirits. All spirits are clear or "white" until aged in charred oak barrels. Moonshiners skip the aging process to reduce risk of arrest, hence the name of their product. Moonshining is profitable because the taxes on legally-produced spirits are so high. It is estimated that the federal government takes in 14 times more in taxes on distilled spirits than producers of the products earn making them.

      Technology and Trivia
It’s not unlike a mosquito constantly buzzing near your ear, this idea that we’re killing ourselves with technology. Everyday, it seems, we hear with disdain about people who don’t know their own phone number, don’t know their friend’s number, don’t know how to drive across town without GPS navigation. These things, we’re told, are proof that civilization and intelligence are in decline. That the younger you are the more likely you are to be helplessly inept and unwise. David Brooks, a New York Times columnist, recently seemed to address this “outsourcing” of our brains, but I couldn’t tell if he liked the idea or not. He says: Memory? I've externalized it. I am one of those baby boomers who are making this the "It's on the Tip of My Tongue Decade" But now I no longer need to have a memory, for I have Google, Yahoo and Wikipedia. To clear up what some of these quotes mean, try this page. Still confused? Did you view the source? ok - here's the scoop.  My wife and I love to play buzztime trivia (www.buzztime.com).  You may have seen them in your local bar or restaurant.  It's those little blue boxes that allow one to answer trivia questions shown on various t.v. screens.  Questions pop up and folk have a few moments to answer the question.  There are five answers given and one must guess, er know, the correct answer.  Three clues are given - usually negative ones saying it's not xxx - time lapses and then the right answer is revealed.  One can either play in cooperation with others in the establishment or by themselves.  At the end of each game, usually 30 minutes, scores are then transmitted to a central location and everyone across the country gets to see the top bar scores (the top 5 scores of a bar averaged together) and the top individual scores.Anyway - my wife and I went to a new place tonight, Jaspers (http://www.jaspersrestaurants.com/Home/index.cfm)
